The AN/PSD-130 PAVE ROOK is a UNSC man portable ground sensor, used for tracking of enemy forces in cover rich environments. The PAVE ROOK is designed to pick up any troops who are generating electromagnetic energy, either through the operation of high output gear, operation of plasma weaponry, operation of high power electrical gear, electromagnets, magnetic containment of fusion reactors and other electromagnetic signals. As well as that, it can detect fluctuations in magnetic fields caused by large amounts of magnetic materials.

The PAVE ROOK consists of a moulded hand grip, primary array and a LCD display screen. The LCD screen displays the 'view' directly ahead, showing increasingly powerful magnetic fields appearing in increasing red shades (going from nothing, to yellow, orange then red) and getting increasingly weaker over range. These signals are cross checked through signal strength, size and regularity, allowing the PAVE ROOK to theorise what the target is. This information is uploaded to the UNSC War Net, designating targets for fellow forces. It has a range of 500 metres and can even detect targets through thick cover, such as inside buildings, in foliage and in smoke screens.
