The AV-22B Sparrowhawk was a twin-engine, multi-role attack gunship in service with the United Nations Space Command first used during the Remnant War. A derivative of the earlier AV-22 Sparrowhawk, the AV-22B made use of an upgraded airframe but was constructed of otherwise completely new components and materials. Operated by aviation units of the UNSC Army, the AV-22B's primary role was to destroy Covenant armoured fighting vehicles and infantry, and provide close-in air support to UNSC Army ground forces. The Sparrowhawk, like its predecessor, was able to use its long loiter time and overwhelming firepower to great effect against enemy ground forces, alongside the more agile and flexible MV-14B Hornet.
