August Plummer, callsign Delta-Three, was a serviceman of the UNSC Defense Force, serving with the UNSC Marine Corps and the UNSC Special Operations Command.
He would enlist with the Marine Corps in late 2552, beginning Basic Training in the covert UNSC Marine Corps redoubt code-named "CROW'S NEST" in Africa when the Covenant attack struck. Instead of being ordered to fight and defend the base, the trainees were ordered to the evacuation dropships, and Plummer would always remember that his life had been paid with human blood on the plains of Africa. Plummer would escape from the installation, alongside the legendary Miranda Keyes no less, and after the conclusion of the Defense of Earth and the Human-Covenant War days later, Plummer would complete his training and specialize in airborne tactics. However, the experience of CROW'S NEST — fleeing the base while his brothers and sisters of the Marines were burned alive with Covenant plasma, would always remind him that he life had been bought with human blood, and he developed the habit of clenching and unclenching his fist, expecting to see scarlet blood in his palm. Exposure to the color red — such as the starlight of Betelgeuse through New Monmouth's atmosphere, would chronically trigger this reflex. At times, Plummer wished for death — to extinguish himself in a blaze of glory, to cleanse himself of this moral burden.
He would recieve his first combat field deployment in February 2554 in Operation: SHOEMAKER, the UNSC investigation of the loss of Nazareth, Beryl.
At an undetermined time, he would transfer to the UNSC Special Operations Command. By 2570, he would attain the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class (E-5) and would be an operator in Delta Team, a field team of UNSCSOCOM's Counterterrorism Activity Warfare Section, serving as the communications specialist / close air support coordinator.
