- "Uh, I'm not sure how to put this... Well, um, yeah... I'm not that good in "people" situations, y'know. Do you know what I mean? It's like I just can't relate to them. Hell, I could kill you and I doubt I'd blink once."
- ―Casey, interviewing with candidate assessment psychologist.
Casey Richard Heinlein, or SPARTAN-B312, was a SPARTAN-III supersoldier best known for his participation in the Battle of Reach, as part of the distinguished unit known as Noble Team. Before being assigned to this position, Casey worked for the Office of Naval Intelligence as a personal problem-solver for one of its high-ranking officers, and tested the ONI experimental planetary-defense fighter known as the "Sabre". He is a skilled pilot, assassin, and assault specialist, as proved by the spotless parade of battlefield successes on his CSV. Though awkward and shy in social situations among friends, Casey has absolutely no qualms about killing people, as he exhibits no attachment to his humanity or recognition of his victims'. This reputation for remorseless execution earned him a lot of respect and fear amongst the UNSC's brass, albeit one that isn't entirely deserved.

What little information I have been able to glean from around all of the redaction [note—I was quite literally expecting the ONI to start redacting page numbers] gives the impression that SPARTAN-312 is more akin to a hyper-lethal vector than a soldier. A lone-wolf assassin that has broken organizations and made entire militia groups disappear. At first glance SPARTAN-312 doesn’t sound like the best fit for a team environment like NOBLE. However, we’ve been down a man for over a month—and frankly there are hidden benefits to a XXX like SPARTAN-312. Call it the luck of the draw. SPARTAN-293’s 1156 has been filed since 22/04/2552, every active duty Spartan-II is on XXX for special training, and it seems that XXX wasn’t able to keep his own private grim reaper out of the pool—only time will tell if this luck is of the good or bad variety.
