[edit] Overview

A gunship variant of the Pelican. One 110mm Rotary chain-gun and two 70mm Rotary chain-gun can cause extreme-amounts damage to almost any object. It also comes equipped with a heavy machine gun in the rear. Note that it is slower, has more powerful engines, has less troop capacity, and has thicker armor. This variant is designed to shoot things, not bring in troops, or tanks to do it. It, however, can hold a Warthog or a tank in the back if necessary, along with a few troops to operate them. This version of the Pelican has a Limited Anti-Air capability, meaning it can get in a scrap with nothing bigger than a couple of Seraphs and come out on top. However, the Pelican's flaw is that it was initially designed to carry troops and not heavy guns. It can kill a couple of Wraiths almost instantaneously of opening fire with the main guns.

[edit] Combat usage

Used for kicking Covenant and Rebel ass on the ground, this model of Pelican is minimally combat effective in zero-gee combat, although there have been cases of 3 Archer missiles (1 on each wing, one in troop compartment) being slung on HAA/I model Pelicans. The D77-HAA/I Pelican is often used to land troops in high-risk areas and to provide Close Air Support when ever needed and/or requested.

[edit] Rebel use

Over the years, the UNSC has 'lost' HAA/I model Pelicans, due to Rebel thieving and used to carry Archer missiles, capable of destroying the most powerful UNSC ships with ease. Though the counter-electronic packages on UNSC ships are more then capable of spoofing the Archer missiles guidance packages.

[edit] Special Operations

The HAA/I Gunship is designed to take a hell of a beating and keep flying. There have even been cases where a Pelican had both of its wings blown off, and it managed to make it back to its ship. It is also extremely versatile. It can even hold a single Archer missile, though it has loses most of its maneuverability and if hit bad enough, will explode. The HAA/I is a popular choice among Commandos and Special Operations troops. Special Ops crews often run their ship to the point of being forced to be written off.

[edit] Design flaws

The D-77-HAA/I Pelican is, quite simply, too damned slow to really be effective in a space battle. Due tho that slow speed, that takes a while to escape a planets gravitational pull. Also, it has double the normal armor on the sides and the back, but it is still extremely vulnerable from Covenant Plasma weapons. The Heavy Guns ammo is stored in a special container that keep them safe though fire and explosions, but plasma could burn right through the container like a white hot knife through butter. Needless to say, all UNSC vehicles were like that during the Human-Covenant war, though.

[edit] After the war

After the war, they were used to put help put down Innies, and to search space for UNSC Survivors from the war. Ten years after the war ended, the D77-HAA/I Pelican started to be gradually removed from the UNSC arsenal, only to be replace by better and more Powerful Pelicans.
