Herald Team was a detachment of SPARTAN-IIIs under NAVSPECWAR Group Four, Naval Special Warfare Division. The group suffered severe losses near the end of the Human-Covenant War, and was ultimately disbanded when only two members remained. After the war, these last two members were integrated with a new formation of Gentry Team.

History[]

The foundations for what would become Herald Team were built when Captain Salomon Martin made connections with then-Lieutenant Kurt Ambrose around 2535, similarly to Colonel Urban Holland and Codename: CANDLEMAKER. Through these connections, Martin received a pair of headhunters from Alpha Company, Xun-A146 and Bruce-A412, as part of Amrose's efforts to save as many of his recruits from suicide missions as possible.

In 2541, an exercise to select the 300 recruits from Beta Company that would become spartans was held. Despite the difficulty of the exercise, the recruits surprised their instructors when more than 300 passed. With heavy heart, Ambrose had to single out a few of them to keep to the permitted 300. Secretly, he smuggled four of these 'washouts' to Captain Martin, who decided to have their training completed by Xun and Bruce. He wasn't capable of giving them the same augmentations as their brethren, however, as those procedures were kept under heavy lock by ONI.

The team was completed when Ambrose managed to move the headhunters Jane-B337 and Nessa-B256 to Martin, and it was also at this time that the detachment was given the callsign of "Herald".

Team Composition[]

The team was made up of two headhunter fire and maneuver teams and a group of four cross-trained, non-augmented 'washouts'.

Trivia[]

  • Herald Team is in many regards similar to Noble Team. The most notable similarity is, of course, that both team names are titles of medieval origin, and that both teams include SPARTAN-IIIs.
  • However, there are also notable differences; while Noble was far less secret than other Spartans and could thus interact safely with non-Spartans, Herald remained top-secret, and thus had no need for high ranks like the members of Noble held. In addition, Herald is still under navy command, unlike Noble who is hinted to be under the Army-controlled Special Warfare Command.
