It is 2545, and the UNSC is rapidly losing control of its war with the Covenant. Twenty years into the fight, half the population of the UNSC is dead, and the undermanned UNSC military has been hard-pressed to keep the enemy from striking at the heart of the human empire.
The Horizon System is located in FLEETCOM Sector Eight on the edge of the Outer Colines, a vast and expansive remote region of space nicknamed "The Shock Front" because of its difficulty to navigate and ease with which the Covenant can strike at UNSC forces. In this part of space, the enemy can appear from nowhere at any time. When that happens, you can not see them, you can not fight them, and you can not run.
