Initial applications (June 2010)[]

As of right now, i'm the only person who is a member of the Good Article project's judging panel even though it's still inactive. Before any articles can be nominated and given their status as a "Good Article", I will need a fellow Administrative colleague and three regular users to aide me in making this a fun and interesting project. Instead of having an elite-few decide who will become members of this panel, I thought i'd be fair and allow people to apply to become a judge.

Of course, this won't be for everyone. The requirements to apply for panel membership include:

  • 1,000 total edits (800 of which for articles)
  • Six months (since January 2010) of active participation on Halo Fanon.
  • No history of significant canon rule-breaking or un-friendliness.
  • Reputation for having a set of one's own "standards" throughout their articles.

To apply to become a panel judge, please copy and submit the form in it's entirety in the correct category below:

====Username====
*'''Username —''' [[User:USERNAME|USERNAME]]
*'''Member since —''' Month Date, Year
*'''Active since —''' Month Date, Year
*'''Experience —''' Explain any involvement in projects or off-wiki experience that will aide you in being a panel judge.
*'''Why —''' Explain why you should become a judge and how you can properly contribute to the panel in an unbiased, professional, and skilled manner.
*'''Examples —''' List and link two or three examples of work that would be of "Good Article" status in your opinion.

Thanks for reading, and I hope to see all of you potential candidates on the panel soon! Have a good day!

Rawr,

Spartan-091 (approved)[]

  • Spartan-091 — Spartan-091
  • Member since — January 16, 2007
  • Active since — January 16, 2007 (Er, wat?)
  • Experience — I write very well, got nominated for FoTM and won it, and I tutor in English at the college I attend.
  • Why — Mainly because I am on every day after work, I know how to use the English language in a proper manner, have generally excellent grammar and spelling, and am fairly neutral when it comes to appraising articles.
  • Examples — M56S Battle Armor, Carter-A259, and Project MIST.

Ajax 013[]

  • Ajax-013 — Ajax 013
  • Member since — 13 June 2007
  • Active since — 13 June 2007
  • Experience — Not to feed the ego, but I'm a veteran of the UoH and CoH from Halopedia, and the prestigious Monitors of Halopedia, who's sole job was choosing which articles gain featured article status, like this project, but the project also included aiming to build certain articles up to featured status, with me personally completely remaking many article to attain FA status. As well as that, on here I've won FOTM and numerous annual awards, including best writer. I'm well aware of what it takes to make good articles.
  • Examples — Heimdall-class Frigate, Celestia-class assault ship and SPARTAN-A294

Subtank[]

  • Subtank — Subtank
  • Member since — October 24, 2007
  • Active since — October 24, 2007
  • Experience — I administrate over three wiki (Halo, Halo Fan Fiction Wiki, and Dead Space Wiki) and I oversee that the quality of articles meet the standards of a typical encyclopaedia. With that said, I focus more on organisation and content (facts than speculation). In other words, I'm concerned with how the wiki looks. I've launched multiple community projects aimed in improving their wiki; such example is the ongoing cleanup project in both Halo and Dead Space Wiki.
  • Why — As per above, I focus more on facts than pure absurd speculations and organisation. How a wiki/article looks matters to me as a good presentation means a good quality of information.
  • Examples — Kaaranese Sangheili, Halo: Minorca Saga, and Transmissions

  • Why — I should be a judge because I am capable of impartiality in judging the works of others on the wikia, and because I believe that I have a handle on what a Good/Great/Fantastic article is.
  • Examples — Caprican Land Forces Command, HRV Armament Company, Felix-116.

  • Experience — On Halofanon, I've worked on the site for over three years, produced several well-acclaimed articles (including one fanon of the month winner and several nominees), and have set a positive example for users in the past. In the real world, I work frequently in community service with organizations like UGM and Scouts.
  • Why — I am an honest, fair minded individual who frequents Halofanon on a daily, if not hourly basis, who spends significant time interacting and observing the community here, and who has the experience to know what consists of a good article.

I've completed seven stories to date, gained rollback rights a few months ago, as well as submitted an article in the Second Annual Halo Fanon Awards and successfully won in the category. I have good judgment pertaining to good articles, not-so-good articles, and the articles in-between; and I find it easy to be helpful and truthful at the same time. I also have rollback rights on Halopedia.
  • Why — I am on this wiki nearly every day, and I am constantly making improvements to my articles and others', if I see anyone having difficulty adopting the wiki styles and codes. I make no hesitation to help out others, new and old, with improving their work by giving constructive feedback and providing insight as to how to further improve the quality of said article. I find it easy to be honest to new users but also in an understanding manner. To this day, there has not been a single user on this site who has stated that I was being too hard on them when it came to an article discussion.

  • Experience — I write well, score high marks in grammar and literature in the real world, and have participated in numerous universes over the course of my stay on the HFFW. While I mostly keep a low profile (when not on the IRC) when it comes to intra-wiki events, I am still a veteran user who has put a lot of time and effort into my membership on this site.
  • Why — I have a keen eye for details such as spelling or grammar mistakes that, while small, can bring even a well-conceived article to its knees. I also frequent the Recent Changes page in my spare time and keep an eye out for updates to articles that interest me.
  • Examples — SPARTAN-057, SPARTAN-091, and Halo: Side Factions

One spot needs filled (September 2010)[]

Considering Sgt.johnson has largely taken a break from his duties because of his school, i've decided to replace him on the Good Articles judging panel until he can sort out his schedule to aide in our efforts. All I need is one of you, one single contributor out there who thinks he or she has the necessary skills to judge an article on it's candidacy to reach Good Article status.

Like most things with me, I have some requirements. They aren't necessarily serious and nothing that will take you a million years as the majority of the most seasoned writers on here have already achieved. For those who haven't yet met the requirements, I ask that you get on it right away. However, as you can see, i've toned the requirements down from 1,000 total edits to 800 and six months of activity down to a small three months.

  • 800 total edits (600 of which for articles)
  • Three months (since June 2010) of active participation on Halo Fanon.
  • No history of significant canon rule-breaking or un-friendliness.
  • Reputation for having a set of one's own "standards" throughout their articles.

  • Experience — As the co-creator of the AAO universe, I am often asked to read and review articles so that they not only fit in with the canon of the Halo Universe, but in AAO canon as well.
  • Why — I always keep my judgment of an article free of bias no matter who the author is or what the idea is about. If I find a place in the article that I feel is lacking, I ask or, as is unfortunate in some cases, demand a more thorough explanation as to how or why something happened.

I am also a contributor to the Necros project. I critique articles as fairly, unbiasedly, and honestly as I can - sometimes not being as civil as I should be in the process. However, I state my mind, however blunt it is - although recently I have been making a conscious effort to dampen my constructive criticism to be less harsh to those on the receiving end. • Experience — I've extensively put my effort into the Infinityverse, my growing pet project. With nearly 500 articles, a number of which are well-sized, it would definitely be considered my crowning achievement. Additionally, I've made small contributions to the Against All Odds and Necros collaborations. Sometime this year, I also plan to reactivate Kingdoms in Exile, my next independent project in the making.
  • Why — When reviewing an article, I never criticize from a biased perspective; I'm more than polite and reasonable, and I treat every user the same, whether they be a stubborn newbie or an experienced administrator. I always finish through (or at least until an administrator is needed). As for my writing skills, they have increased ten-fold in the recent months. As one might guess, Taradia is my best work with both Good Article status and an HFFA award, and it continues to grow, whether it be tangible or conceptual, every day. I've learned firsthand what it takes to make a good article, and I hope to be able to apply this alongside inspirational figures on this site.

  • Experience - I've been actively contributing to the site for something close to four years by now, and in that time, have helped many users along the path to becoming active and successful members of the community at large by providing advice on articles and in general. I've put a good deal of effort into the Repentance Canon, an effort to render a socially and militarily realistic Halo universe, along with co-creator Spartan-091 and Sgt.johnson. My namesake article received an Annual Award for Best Artificial Intelligence in 2009, and I have also received an award for my actions in the community. On a note of finality, as a former infantryman of the Republic of Korea Army, I possess a thorough military perspective, and I have used my experiences to help other users upon request.
  • Why - I am widely known for being unbiased in decisions, and respond to or address issues in an organised and factual manner. I am also a relatively well-respected member of the site community, advise many users, both new and old, upon request, and am active most days. While I do not have much in the way of written stories on-site I do have personal literary experience, and likewise, am happy to share advice with others regarding writing technique.

Two spots need filled (February 2012)[]

With the departure of our faithful former panel moderator, and the Good Article Project under new management, we'll need a new member among our staff. You know the drill, copy the template, fill out all the info, and cross your fingers. Grizzlei will fulfill her final task as GA leader by picking her replacement on the 10th of February.

Also, it has become my unfortunate duty to replace Subtank with another member on team. Since she has not only left the administration but the wiki altogether (activity-wise), I think it's a given that she won't be around to vote on nominees. I'll be deciding on her replacement.

  • Experience — Though my time here has been short - barely a year - I am eager to do whatever I can to help maintain the quality of this wiki. I'm not really interested in getting awards or attention; I just like writing, and I've submitted quite a bit of fanfiction here. I'm a college sophomore, soon to be junior, in an Honors program and subject to the most selective criteria at my university, both moral and academic. Meaning, most of what I do has to be perfect in order to keep my financial aid, so take from that what you will in regard to my "experience." I have played through every Halo game and own all of the novels except Cryptum and Primordium at the moment, and I also own Halsey's journal, giving me access to Halo fact and solid basis for good fanfiction. I am a Rollbacker here on Halo Fanon, a status which I attained recently and am very grateful for, and I am a member of the Against All Odds project, though college has kept me from contributing as much as I want to that particular effort. My activity here is severely hampered by my busy schedule, but I am much better at managing things than I am at posting fanon material, since my everyday life requires a considerable amount of management, assessment, and achievement.
  • Why — As a writer, both academic and extracurricular, I pay keen attention to things like spelling/grammar, logic, story flow, cohesion, character development, and most importantly the underlying sentiment an author puts into an article; namely, whether or not they have put enough thought and feeling into an article to make it work. Because of my experiences as one of the academic elite at my institution of higher learning, I am able to distinguish superior work from inferior without bias, as I have learned from the judgments passed by my superiors regarding my own work. I am not the best or the smartest writer, but I feel as if I possess an invaluable skill set when it comes to writing and analyzing, and that I am well-suited for choosing Good Articles.

  • Experience — In my recent years, I've taken three high school writing courses, as well as two college level writing courses and one on American Literature. My heart has been in writing for several years now, so I have striven to acquire as much knowledge on the skills and techniques of it as I can. I'm an avid reader, having read dozens and dozens of books, so I have a wide variety of writing styles and concepts to base judgements off of, and how ideas on how to judge them. In addition, I'm in the midst of trying to finish the first book in a novel series, as well as continue adding to two other writing projects. On wiki, I've been a member for four and a half years, an admin for over three of those, and am a recently elected bureaucrat: I've dealt with vandals, trolls, "insurrectionists," miscreants, and other nasty things amid my years, and have seen more NCF, GM, and spam articles than I can count.
  • Why — Generally speaking, I consider myself to have a good eye for what a good article is. Namely, it is more than just one that is well-written, spell-checked and canon-referenced, or even more than one with a crafted story or interesting plot. A Good Article should have all of these things, yes, but it needs more, a heart and soul in it that an author has granted through hard work and dedicated progress. This site is filled with so many articles, dozens get bypassed and left behind in all the clutter: the GA Project should help to show those works of dedication off to the others.
  • Examples — Tess-B312, Xenomorph, Halo: Beta Red

One spot needs filled (December 2012)[]

Okay, so it's time to bring GA back up to full activity. Ladylaconia has decided to step down from the Good Article panel, so I need someone to replace her spot. You know how it works, leave your application below and I'll make a decision by next week if there are enough sign-ups.

  • Experience — I'm a three-year veteran of the site, but while much of that time was spent in the background, it was time spent improving by observation of those more experienced and knowledgeable than I was. Even then, I was always careful about spelling and punctuation even if my grammar was odd at times. Now, I've got a few seasons under my belt along with a number of well-organized articles made possible because I have an understanding of the conventions for making an article shine that this site has developed through the years.
  • Why — While I enjoy reading exceptionally well-written articles, I have the integrity to thoroughly read through those that might at first seem like a chore. Operation: BLUE NIGHTS, for example, is no short read and looks monotonous, but taking the time to go through it, you'll find many intriguing connections and revelations made by the author. Also there are a few nominations turned down before that might be worth a second glance now.
  • Examples — Tyraxus Tribe, Marco-025, Dotto, Spartan Enclave, Jonathan Watts, Richard Mack Sr.

Since I've joined the site, I have always tried to keep all of my articles to a high standard of quality and have good knowledge of the Halo universe in general. By this point I have participated in several roleplays, have a number of good-quality articles that have been improved on greatly since my arrival here. Furthermore, I feel that I have a good relationship with most regularly active users and have recently been awarded Rollbacker status, something that I have put to use on a few occasions when dealing with vandals.
  • Why — Quite a few articles on the wiki deserving of GA status are overlooked or simply go unread by users. While I'm certainly guilty of the latter on a few occasions in the past, I have made a conscious effort recently to read through the work of others in detail and believe that taking the time to do so is very much worth the effort. Through this, I've found that there are quite a few articles that once read provide a great insight into the universe that an author has created and truly deserve the mark of quality that the GA icon brings.

Two spots need filled (February 2015)[]

Having confirmed from StoneGhost that he'll be stepping down as a GA panelist and no word from Sonasaurus after a five-month absence, I find myself in need of a couple judges to keep the odd number where one can function as a swing vote, as Sona wisely established. So, application is below, and the requirements set up by Grizz an age ago still stand. I'll review the applicants in one week, on February 28th, 2015, and decide whom shall join our lofty ranks.

Update: So, I've got three applications for two slots, but y'all kinda goofed in one respect: the examples in the application are meant to be non-Good Articles you would think are worthy of becoming so. So, as a test to see which of you can be prompt in noticing and responding (perhaps moreso than I given I hadn't got back to this in two weeks), I'm removing your current examples and bidding you to scour the site for articles you think worthy of nomination to list. Go now, and find the meritorious works of your peers (hey, even yourselves if you've got something you're just hoping someone'd notice).

  • Experience — Through what feels like my, short, time on the site I have been a part of various Roleplay's, both on the site and on the Irk as well as other further a field. I am also in collaboration with multiple users with plenty of future plans. While I'm not as productive on the site as i'd like, something that I am trying very hard to change, I feel as though when I do make an edit it is something I try to keep to a certain standard I have for myself. Other than that I feel as though I have a good raport with other more active users and I do try where I can to help newer users on the site.
  • Why — When I started off making my first characters feedback was an essential part in getting them to where they are now. With the loss of Fanon of the Month and the Critical Review Board, something I would like to see comeback (And I'd be happy to help with if someone were to reactivate it), I feel as though Good Articles are one of the few ways to give good feedback to articles that need them. I try as much as I can to read other users content as I feel like it gives me a good motivation to work on my own. On another note I also feel like I have shown an impartial and friendly demeanour when helping other users.

  • Experience — I've been editing here for almost five years now, and I also write and post content on a number of other sites. I've won two annual awards and have had a number of my articles featured as Fanon of the Month (back when that was a thing we gave out to anyone) or given Good Article status.
  • Why — Though my edits have been increasingly few and far between for the past couple years, I'm as dedicated to the community here as I ever was. While I may already be a site patroller, I've long been seeking a way to further contribute to the betterment of the community aside from simply glancing over recent edits and basic upkeep. While I hardly think the site is going to die out any time soon, there is no denying that the site is the least active its been in years. If we want the site and more importantly the community behind it to survive, we need to find new users who will be just as committed to the site as most of us are. Providing recognition and acknowledgement to all users for doing quality work is an excellent way to reach out to newer users and to motivate older users to keep making new content, and I would love to have a part in helping to provide such encouragement.

  • Why — I have a keen eye for well written articles and have consistently proven i'm willing to stay and help improve articles. Have myself won awards giving my words credibility, if accepted I would be proactive and open in my assessments.

  • Experience — Despite being around a little more than two years, I've managed to build up quite the record of achievement. To date, I've won thirteen awards in total, with seven of those being from the Annual Awards, and these numbers do not include my other articles which were nominated for such awards.
  • Why — Among other things, I have a strong belief that everyone, no matter how new they are to fan-fiction or Halo canon, has the potential to write an incredible piece of fanon. Because of this fact, whenever I provide feedback, I not only bring to their attention what contradicts canon but also how to fix them, always keeping in mind on how to rework their ideas to fit into canon. I am approachable and friendly, and willing to offer myself to assist with proofreading, coding or even getting pictures for those users who do need help. I can do this for even excessively-long articles, although I may need a couple of days before I can post my criticism. Finally, I am no stranger to rewarding users for their hard work, having been happy to nominate other articles in the past should I feel they meet a high enough standard.

  • Experience — Though I've never actually continuously stayed active since joining this wiki, I can say that my interaction with the community has been pretty good. I haven't participated in any roleplays till now, but I am an active member of an open Expanded Universe and also one of my own. I constantly log onto the IRC Channel too. While it's true that I'm not a great writer or something since I have only a few articles which are GA-worthy and many of my articles are just stubs, I'm trying my best to turn the tables and become a proper writer.
  • Why — As I said above, I'm trying hard to make all my articles proper and not leave them as just stubs. Granted, I'm still changing, but I don't feel that's a reason for me not becoming the GA panel judge. I've always helped other users in their works, and am also part of the collaboration Delta Company. Besides, by judging others' articles, I can know better of the faults in mine, and where I must improve.

  • Experience — 10+ years writing Fanfiction content. Multiple Halo Fanon site awards. Halo Fanon Site Patroller since January 2018. Standing reputation among several different online writing communities as a quality writer.
  • Why — There's a recent vacancy; its sad to see Sev40 step down. I'm not too serious about pursuing the role of GA judge but I'm aware I have a decent track record for meeting the standards of the GA panel in the past. If there is someone who actively wants to pursue the position and feels very strongly about it, I think they should fill that spot over me. That said, I got the community know-how and the activity presence to participate in the long run.

  • Experience — Active on Halo Fanon for less than two years. Won a Good Article status for one of my articles. Won the Breakthrough Writer Annual Award in 2019. Brought the idea of the #writing-feedback channel to the HF Discord after looking at SW Fanon's Writing Center.
  • Why — The idea of being a judge for the GA panel helps me as a writer and as an individual who edits the site. It allows me to assess and help users who are submitting an article to be awarded GA status. Being a judge, I am in a position to help people who are writing on the site. Having helped people in the #writing-feedback a number of times, I realize I am able to identify issues and help those people write better articles. The importance of being a GA judge revolves around the principles of judging an article without bias, giving fair feedback to the individual who submitted, and responding in a timely fashion. With these three principles, I hope I will excel as a judge on the panel to provide fair, honest, and timely feedback while studying an article up for GA status.

  • Experience — Multiple years of active writing on Halo Fanon, as well as several awards attained in the that time. Off of the site, I take writing classes for improvement.
  • Why — I've been a productive and contributing member to the site for two and a half years, and with Brodie stepping down I thought it would be a good chance to not only step up to the plate, but sharpen my skills for critique. I don't hold biases against anyone, and when I need to, I can be professional.

One Spot Needs Filled (March 2024)[]

Greet'ns. Been a few years since this happened, but with ThePeteFiles choosing to stand down as a panelist, we have need of a new fifth to prevent ties in future Good Article nominations. Becoming a GA panelist will involve providing usable, constructive feedback on articles nominated, but in turn lets you have a hand in deciding what articles are featured on the Main Page as examples for new users to look to for inspiration and formatting conventions. In one week, on March 25th, 2024, the standing GA Panelists and Administrators will come to a consensus on the volunteering candidates and select the new inductee. • Experience — I have been on the wiki for a year and a half, and have had multiple articles nominated for awards, so I feel I understand what constitutes a good article. Furthermore, I've done previous work in writing feedback and giving constructive criticism for pieces of writing in the past, both on stories and actual articles - although not on Halo Fanon.
  • Why — I believe I should be a GA judge because I have experience in how to craft a good page on HF. I've had articles nominated for awards and GA status, so I feel I have an understanding of how an article must be construed and constructed to achieve that, having read through feedback not only on my own articles, but others too. I also consider myself to be a pretty impartial judge of writing, although that is only my opinion. I'm also semi-active on the site, and so I won't forget that I'm a member of the GA panel lol.
