The Humanity Speech was delivered on August 30th, 2552, by United Nations Space Command Navy Fleet Admiral Ward, the very same morning during the Covenant's attack on Reach's Orbital Defence Line.

| They wage a crusade against us. They, the Covenant, challenged us. Every day, a colony would fell to the hands of the wretched Covenant. Our homes has been attacked by force of arms, and by force of arms we must retaliate. We must now turn every effort to building the greatest and most efficient Army, Navy and Air Force in the world.
In 2525, the Covenant launched an attack against Harvest. In 2530, Covenant forces attacked Eridanus II. In 2535, the Covenant forces attacked Jericho VII. In 2537, Covenant forces attacked the New Constantinople. In 2549, they attacked Paris IV Last month, they attacked Sigma Octanus IV. And this morning the Covenant attacked Reach. They attacked our homes! The facts of yesterdays and today speak for themselves. This could be the greatest night of our lives, and the entire world, if not the universe, shall hear our roar. And I guarantee a week won’t go by in your life you won’t regret walking out, letting them get the best of you. Well, I’m not retreating from this hole. We’ve come too far! And I’m going to stay right here and fight for this lost cause. A day may come when the courage of men fails... but it is not this day. The line must be drawn here! This far, no further! I’m not saying it’s going to be easy. You’re going to work harder than you ever worked before. But that’s fine, we’ll just get tougher with it! That’s how winning is done! Believe me when I say we can break this army here, failure is not an option. But I say to you what every warrior has known since the beginning of time: you’ve got to get mad. I mean plum mad dog mean. If you would be free men, then you must fight to fulfil that promise! Let us cut out their living guts one inch at a time, and they will know what we can do! Let no man forget how menacing we are. We are lions! We are the dominant race of this world! This is your time! Seize the day, and never surrender, victory or death... Who’s with me? Roar! Roar! Roar! Now, let’s march to the frontlines and face against the aggressors! When I tell our enemies that they may take our lives, so be it. But they’ll never take our spirit of freedom! For mankind! |
