The M235 DMG was a portable machine gun that could be deployed to solidify a defensive position.
The M235 was very similar in appearance to the later weapon, the M247. It featured a stand with four "petals" which supported a central stand which went upwards then bent. It featured a turret mounted on this, which had a double stock for recoil, a complex ammo system, and no frontal shield.
The M235 was developed in 2542, by a team of ONI engineers. It was desinged to be a weapon that could be brought with occupying troops to soldify temporary base defenses until mor permanent structures could be built.
Difference from M247
- Lower Rate of fire
- No shield
- More complex ammo system
The weapon saw fairly widespread use throughout the UNSC until late 2552, when it was replaced by the M247. It's last notable battle was the events at Halo, where Pelicans carried several onboard, which were used to solidify Alpha Base's defensives for a short time.
One flaw was that the gunner was very exposed. Sniper fire could easily silence an open emplacement, due to a lack of protection on the gun. The ammo system was also more complex than that of later models.
"Tears through Covies, but it can be a scary thing to fire."
"I've seen these guns bring down Spirits when enough of them focus their firepower. Not something to toy around with."
"Its great we have these things. We can deploy em ten minutes after we secure an area, and be instantly ready for an attack."
