The M25 Underslung Rocket Launcher is a UNSC weapons attachment that is used to boost the firepower of the individual soldier by grafting a small, yet powerful, under-slung weapon onto the bottom of the barrel of the soldier's standard weapon.
Like the UNSC's other under-slung weapons, the M25 is compact and designed to be compatible to the large Misriah Rails fitted to the underside of the barrels of most UNSC weapons. Its ergonomic hand grip and electric firing trigger make operating it fairly simple. In order to reload the M025 the operator simply "breaks" the tube sideways using the firing catch, and places a fresh rocket into the weapon.
The M25 URL uses 30mm rifle rockets. The most common rocket is the Sparrow rocket, which is made of zinc amalgam with a synthetic fuel that both powers it and acts as the weapon's warhead. Other rocket types include breaching rounds, HESH munitions and other specialist rockets. It is most often used by point men for engaging enemy forces in defilade, static weapons and materiel, for door breaching, mouse holing and demolition.
The M5 URL is compatible with fire control sights, allowing for it to be point detonated against forces in cover.
"Since the thing uses its own fuel as a warhead I wouldn't shoot it at anythin more than 50 yards away, otherwise, you just draw attention to yourself, without even denting you target, especially if it's a tank."
"It doesn't have the lob ability of a grenade launcher, and the range is limited, but it sure can down Brutes, and a well-aimed shot can punch a hole through a bunker or cripple a Wraith."
