M319N Individual Grenade Launcher is the latest in the long-running M319 line of light grenade launchers, in service since 2263. It is used as a light ordnance weapon weapon for infantry squads operating in urban environments.
Description[]
The weapon is a break action, breech loaded grenade launcher. The grenade launcher has a manual safety, forward rubberised hand grip, folding stock and three sets of Misriah Rails. The Grenade Launcher is fed by unlocking the barrel and flipping it open, then loading a fresh grenade. The M319N IGL is fitted with holographic leaf sights, rudimentary iron sights, hydraulic buffers, inbuilt fire control software, folding front grip, forward carrying handle and two forward Misriah Rails for equipping accessories. The entire assembly is made from composite polymers and light weight titanium alloys.
The M319 is fitted with a small fire control system, with a hardwired infolink to the grenade. This comes back to a readout conferring the range and targets in range and the arming status of the grenade. This links directly to the user's armour system, allowing exchange of data on targets in grenade range relinked by global positioning and grenade status. This can be further linked to a fire control unit attached to the rail, allowing it to preform sensor fusing, range finding and timed explosion.
Uses[]
The M319 IGL is used by both the Army and the Marines, being used by squad grenadiers when a more delicate approach is needed than a simple underslung grenade. Often, its is considered a more lightweight and flexible alternative to the more powerful M23 MGL, when its weight and bulk can be ill-afforded. It comparison to 25mm grenade launchers, it is much more destructive and flexible, being capable of taking down light armour and heavy infantry. It is also the preferred grenade launch of UNSC SOCOM, being a much more modular, lightweight alternative to larger grenade launchers.
