The M3A3 Combat Weapon System is the third iteration of the M3 Assault Rifle. The M3 was developed as Jennings & Rall's response to Misrah Armory's MA1 Assault Rifle, but was ultimately not chosen for general use in the UNSCDF. The M2A2 was developed as a carbine variant of the weapon system.

[edit] History
When the M1 Battle Rifle began to be phased out of active military duty in 2458, the UNSC began searching for a successor to the ninety year old weapon. Misrah created the MA1 series rifle, while the M3 and M2 were the results of J&Rs development. Due to the higher costs and larger size of the weapon, the MA1 was chosen over the M3.
However, the M3 became popular in the private sector, used by Colonial Militia, SWAT, and Rebels. In time the M3 evolved into its current form, and can mount either an underslung 8 gauge shotgun for close quarters combat, or 40mm grenade launcher. UNSCDF Special Forces have adopted the rifle in small numbers.
[edit] Description
The M3A3 is a bullpup Assault Rifle and is extremely large compared to similar weapons. The weapon features a large carrying rail running along most of the rifles top and serves as the weapons iron sights, and has a rail for the mounting of optics. The magazine is at the extreme rear of the rifle, and allows the M3A3 a long barrel, making the weapon accurate at even far distances. A 40mm grenade launcher is mounted under the barrel, which gives the wielder an advantage in combat.
[edit] Specifications
The M3A3 fires the standard NATO 7.62 millimeter round. The magazine boasts the capacity to store 42 rounds, and does not suffer from feed jamming.
[edit] Advantages
The M3A3 benefits from its long length, able to fire accurately up to 600 m with basic UNSC nuerointerface equipment. The weapon can penetrate a centimeter of titanium, which lets the M3A3 able to take on even lightly armored vehicles. Its large mass as well helps to reduce recoil, making the weapon manageable even under sustained fire. With an optional 6x Essal Scope mounted on the top rail, the weapon can be used effectively up to 850 m. Its larger magazine makes the weapon extremely versatile, and an optional box or soft pouch magazine can increase its capacity to over 150 rounds
[edit] Disadvantages
Because of its long length, the M3A3 is extremely awkward in close quarters combat. The M2A2 is better adapted for CQC, but suffers from reduced power. Due to the relative rarity of 40mm munitions, grenades are hard to come buy, and are expensive to purchase. Because of the lack of a proper front post, the weapon looses range when operated without UNSC combat systems.
[edit] Weapon Feedback
"We rolled though a small town on the outskirts of the main city, thought I was safe in my eight-oh-eight. Rebels open up on us with things, and next think I know four little beams of light are peaking through the Titanium-A canopy." UNSCMC Pvt. Kyle Ulido.
"UNSC should have gone with the M3, hell, with this the rebels are better equipped than us" Anonymous Marine.
"This rifle has given us an advantage, equals the odds we're up against when we can actually mount a decent defensive" Anonymous Rebel.
