Added by KilljaxThe MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor Mark VII is the latest iteration of the MJOLNIR Powered armor series. Its previous installment, the Mark VI, saw action late in the war among the few remaining Spartan-II's during the Human-Covenant War(Halo 2 & Halo3). When the war ended, only a few dozen armor units were placed in storage. Until 2565, the armor has been revitalized to meet the demands of the S.P.A.R.T.A.N IV Program, and has thus been upgraded with more modern key components and systems software for its physical and integration characteristics.
Armor Design
Edit
The Mark VII retained most of the original armor concept of the Mark VI, but has been technologically updated internally and redone to accommodate its new upgrades, installments, and protective shielding externally. With only a few dozen Mark VI models in combat condition, most of its armor upgrades and technical components were massively upgraded over to the Mark VII. Some upgrades included Biofoam injectors, improved liquid crystal and hydrostatic gel layers, recoil-compensating actuators which handle weapon feedback, improved computer system which continuously monitored weapons, biological functions, motion through intelligent motion-sensing radar, etc.
The first 55 Mark VII's, dubbed "Prototypes", were Mark VI's researched on for the implementation and possibility of upgrades. The cost of disassembling each unit, then refitting them with newer gear (this involved gutting the helmet, power pack, reactive layer and then machining the new parts to make all that additional gear fit) and finally installing newer neural interfaces took tremendous amounts of funds and time to complete. When finally completed, the reassembling of the units and then testing to see if the units functioned properly took mere months. Upon completion, the Prototypes were given to a selected few of recruits from Alpha Company. With outstanding results, Lt. Col. Pierce ordered mass production of the new suits of armor to accommodate future S.P.A.R.T.A.N IV's.
Armor Variants/Upgrades
Edit
Many armor variants from the previous model were implemented and made possible by the multi-adapting Mark VII.
MJOLNIR/Reconnaissance Armor
Edit

The Mark V Reconnaissance armor was developed parallel to the Scout Armor project in ONI's Ordnance Testing Facility B5D in Swanbourne, Perth, Western Australia. The main purpose of the Reconnaissance Armor was to specifically create armor with stealth capabilities and with little or no loss of endurance, specifically by reducing its IR signature, reflective surfaces, and Cherenkov radiation emission from its Fusion Reactor.
MJOLNIR/Close-Quarters-Battle (CQB) Armor
Edit

The MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor/C variant, or "CQB", is a Close quarters armor for the the Mark VII. The CQB helmet is standard equipment for boarding actions, urban operations, and close quarters. It has also been used in Counter-Insurgency/Terrorism situations and Hostage Rescue Operations. The chest is a plate of Titanium alloy attached to the already existing Mark VII armor underneath. It consists of an additional set of four plates fused together for maximum protection. The shoulder plating also accommodates more maneuverability as it is smaller and lowered from the shoulder in comparison to the standard Mark VII.
MJOLNIR/Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Armor
Edit

The MJOLNIR/EOD variant was created at the UNSC Damascus Materials Testing Facility on Chi Ceti 4. The helmet was designed specifically to channel the pressure wave of a nearby detonation around the user's head, significantly reducing the likelihood of decapitation in the event of an explosion. The MJOLNIR/EOD variant's pauldrons and chest plate were designed to reduce the number of grabbing edges on the armor, decreasing the likelihood of dismemberment from debris, and protecting Spartans during operations involving the handling of explosive ordnance such as clearing/planting land mines, demolishing enemy structures/material and, or planting/defusing explosive devices.)
MJOLNIR/SCOUT Variant
Edit

The Scout and Recon projects were run as parallel sister projects intended to develop a single variant of the MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor with stealth capabilities and no impact on endurance; however, the SCOUT variant relies heavily on highly advanced materials in order to enable it self for complete covert operation. It was tested in ONI's Ordnance Testing Facility B5D at Swanbourne, Perth, in Western Australia.
Unit Upgrades
Edit
Most unit upgrades were pulled out of ONI's storage facilities to accommodate the Mark VII in multiple mission objectives and roles.
- Neural Induction Circuits - Allowed the Armor to respond to the wearer's movement at a faster rate.
- Linear Accelerator - Doubles the strength of the energy shield system and allows the MJOLNIR to take more hits before failing.
- Image Enhancing Computer - Better visual display on the MJOLNIR's Heads-Up Display.
- Improved Tracking System - better tracking system on the MJOLNIR'S heads-up display, which improved accuracy at distances up to a thousand meters.
- Improved Motion Sensors - Improves sensitivity readings on the motion tracker allowing for more accurate readings.
- Hardened External Sensor Array-External or HESA-E- This device may be related to the Image Enhancing Computer detailed above.
- External Hardened Uplink or HUL - A recording device designed for acquiring intelligence.
- External Command Network Module or CNM - This device is standard issue for UNSC Special Forces unit commanders.
Components
Edit
Helmet
Edit
Made out of a Titanium alloy, the helmet contains key features like a Heads Up Display (HUD) that links to the cerebral neurons and hands, and can identify equipment (Covenant and UNSC alike) and display information about them when it is handled by the wearer. It can directly link the neural interface system which connects to the Spartans neural implants. When the connector at the rear of the subjects head and receptors in the brain link to the helmets on board sensors, it creates the neural link needed to move the MJOLNIR suit. When the Mark VII was upgraded, several key features from the Mark VI were still retained, albeit with few minor differences. This included:
- Atmospheric filters to remove chemical toxins from the atmosphere.
- A supply to provide oxygen to the wearer during EVA (vacuum).
- Thermal and motion sensors, and long/short range communications.
- Self-powered lighting (unlike the solar powered lighting).
- Imaging and video gear along with VISR mode.
- AI housing unit, where a ship-borne AI chip is inserted, located on the back of the helmet.
Titanium Alloy Outer Shell
Edit
The outer shell of the armor. It is comprised of a fairly thick titanium alloy. This plating covers the chest, arms, hip, legs, calf's, feet and hands. This alloy is very resilient, can take significant punishment, and is nearly impervious to small arms fire. Project energy weapons, however, deal a greater blow to the armor as it can only take a few glancing shots.
Titanium Nanocomposite Body armor Mark VII
Edit
"Sandwiched" between the external armor and the internal padding, the suit is a thick black armored bodysuit. This suit has numerous functions, small but vital to the safety and survival of the wearer. The bodysuit is made of a titanium-based material, making it very strong and yet very flexible. It also serves as another layer of protection against ballistics attacks and is coated with a heat resistant material to disperse heat from Plasma weapons.
Hydrostatic Gel
Edit
A gel layer located underneath the armored body suit, it regulates the temperature of the suit and can actively change its density to conform to the wearer's shape and limited size. The temperature inside the suit is controlled by a weather sensing component under hydrostatic layer. The hydrostatic gel layer can also be pressurized to various levels to potentially save the wearers life should the wearer be subjected to high 'G' forces or a high velocity impact.
Reactive Metal Liquid Crystal Layer
Edit
Liquid crystal forms the inner structure of the suit. This reactive metal increases the strength, reaction time, mobility, speed, and all around physical performance of the S.P.A.R.T.A.N IV. The suit's artificial intelligence is supported by this layer of crystal, knitted together at a molecular level and fitted in between the outer plates and the inner padding.
Magnetic Weapon Holder Strips
Edit
The Mk. IV, Mk. V, and Mk. VI all accommodated the magnetic strips. Small yet very powerful magnets placed on the left and right of the upper leg, waist, and back of the suit and is used to hold any equipment with a magnetic property. The suit also contains a magnetic system on the boots of the MJOLNIR suit that allow its wearer to stay attached to a metal surface in Zero G environments and can be activated ON or OFF by the wearer.
Human Energy Shielding
Edit
First used on the Mk. V, and later refined on the Mk. VI, then brought over to the Mark VII, the energy shield device was reversed engineered from captured Covenant technology from a Jackal Point-Defense Gauntlet. After the Human-Covenant War ended, Lt. Col. Morgan Pierce requested for sufficient energy shielding technology from the Sangheili. In accordance to the Intergalactic Charter, the Sangheili Ministry of Defense sent over a sample of their shielding technology for ground infantry purposes only. This was later adapted on the Mark VII.
Pressure Seal
Edit
The Pressure Seal keeps the suit system in airtight, underwater, or in space operations. The seal is very strong and will only break under extreme pressure, such as in a high velocity impact or when the Hydrostatic Gel has been over pressurized.
Automatic Biofoam Injectors
Edit
Introduced on the Mk. VI models then later reversed engineered, the Biofoam injectors is an integral part of the systems ability to keep a Spartan functioning in battle. Biofoam, suited with anesthetic and other numbing compound, is injected into a wound the Spartan has received.
Mark III Fusion Reactor
Edit
The Mark III Fusion Reactor is the most essential part of the MJOLNIR Mark VII System, as it provides power to all equipment on the MJOLNIR armor. The reactor is built into the suit and allows for nearly unlimited movement.
Force-Multiplying Circuit
Edit
Located throughout the armor unit, these systems boost the force applied by the wearer. They make CQB (Close-Quarters-Battle) easier. A more flexible version was installed on the Mark VII to accommodate comfortability and more controlled actions.
Reactive Circuit
Edit
Reactive Circuits are systems installed directly linked to the Spartan Neural Interface. They amplify the wearer's reaction time by connecting directly to the thoughts of the wearer, making it much easier to control and allowing for the soldier to be both more efficient and have a higher survival rate in combat.
MJOLNIR Power Supply Control Unit
Edit
Control Unit that controls the power supply of the armor. Brought over to the Mark VII. The PSCU is integrated into the miniature fusion reactor located on the back on the MJOLNIR armor. It provides power distribution to the suit's functions. A newer model was placed into the Mark VII to allow more "armor stress" to be handled by the PSCU over longer periods of time.
MJOLNIR BIOS
Edit
The basic input/output system, standard firmware interface for the Mark VI and VII. The BIOS handles most of the MJOLNIRs software functions when initiated. Updates to the BIOS allow newer hardware to be supported and function.
