Marathon Research Corporation is a private think tank that conducts research and engages in advocacy in the research and development, originally a medical properties manufacturer that helped the UEG during the Interplanetary War. It evolved over the course of half a century into an experimental physics research institution and a bitter rival of Phade Technology Industry. Through its breakthrough with the development of the Curiga, the corporation manage to obtain an aperture in the marketplace where most scientific corporations focused most of its assets in the fields of advanced research and development (R&D).

[edit] History
[edit] Foundation
Marathon was founded by Tobias Farrell in 2153. In 2156, the United Nations Committee gave Acute Science a contract stating that Acute Science would provide all branches of the United Nations Organisations (mainly the World Health Organisation) with medical support.
From 2157 to 2175, the company was almost entirely dedicated to the development of medicinal properties. In 2178, Farrell accidentally contracted mercury poisoning. By 2179, both of Cave Farrell's lungs almost failed, and he had severe brain damage and experienced illusions from the effects of the injury he attained. While dying, Farrell created a 4-phase programme which he thought would continue Acute Science's success far into the fast-approaching distant past.
The first phase was the Isenberg's Project, which was the completion of the first biodome, a closed ecological system, on the Moon. The second was the Believe Foundation, a charity programme to help the third world nations whom were suffering from the effects of the Interplanetary War. The foundation would present gifts to terminally ill children and award those who helped in the cause. The third phase was, in Farrell's opinion, the least well thought out. It was described as "some kind of rip in the fabric of space". The fourth was the initiation of the Utukumaki Honour Program, an advanced military-funded project and the Origami Program, a fictitious project headed by the leading researchers of Marathon Research Corporation. It was unknown who the head of the program was or what it was intended for. The fourth phase of Farrell's program was unheard of amongst the corporation's chief advisor.
In 2281, Marathon completed the first two phase, with the second ongoing till 2490. As the program continued, an engineer stated that some progress had been made with phase three. He referred to it as a quantum tunnel through physical space with possible applications. The committee was permanently recessed and Marathon was given an open-ended contract to continue work on the Isenberg's Project and the Utukumaki Honour Program as well as the Origami Program.
From 2181 to 2185, work on the Origami Program continued.
