Mjolnir base

The MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armour Mark VII is the seventh iteration of the infamous MJOLNIR Armour and easily the most widespread. It saw widespread action with the SPARTAN-IVs, IIIs and IIs. The armour featured a number of changes and reductions to its physical and integral functions.

Design[]

Changes from Mark VI[]

  • Memory processing weave removed from basic designs to make the design cheaper.
  • Twin linked Fusion-Plasma Hybrid generators
    • A more robust shield with a faster recharge time resulted from this and a greater knowledge of shielding.
  • Expanded HUD systems, CTC and IFF combat systems for full integration to army level warfare.
  • Composite body armour of Titanium and AEGIS ceramic skin with resin bonded graphite composite carbon fibre layer and liquid crystal internal layer to catch spalling from penetrations of higher layers.
  • Under layer of interwoven plates of titanium and AEGIS nanocomposite form fitting and flexible body suit.
  • Integration systems for a wide range of 'clip on' equipment.
  • In addition to motion tracker the armour also includes a small forward facing AESA RADAR with an effective range of 100 meters. It is impossible to jam though and has a low chance of interception.
  • Outer plates are coated in robust Nanotech Polymers allow the user to change the colour scheme of it, allowing localised colouring of the armour through the neural interface, rather than having to apply specialist camo schemes ground side.
  • Active A.I. transfer protocols allowing A.I.s to jump from one computer system or suit to another suit or computer system within short ranges or via wireless connections.
  • Standalone atmospheric insertion capabilities. A user in a suit can survive atmospheric re-entry, using limited energy shield airfoils and reinforced protection and shock absorption system, allowing users to survive impacting with soft surfaces (dirt, water, sand, mud) and maximum of mach 1.
  • Slipspace de-insertion capabilities when used in conjunction with G-66 Slipspace pods, allowing users to be slingshot out of slipspace and into real space for tactical insertions.

Features[]

Helmet[]

  • A Variable electronically controlled non-reflective self regenerating composite visor with liquid glass material, protective and concealing sun shade and gold tint to protect from electromagnetic interference. The colouration and concealment can also be adjusted. Adaptive liquid display protects users from high intensity flashes, such as flash bangs, blinding LASERs and unfiltered sunlight without affecting vision. Visor is made of twin layers of single crystal quartz, providing armour resistance on par with high level ceramic armouring. The helmet features modular plugins for changing the VISR system and visor properties.
  • Anchor Point on helmet for thermal goggle systems and other systems, additional anchor points on the sides of the helmet for additional gear, such as battlefield cameras or vision systems.
  • A communication featuring powerful 'Agile Metamaterial' with ultra to to extremely high frequency communication systems and a range high enough to reach high orbit communication satellites and a short range radio system with a 6 kilometre range and a neural interface controlled throat microphone.
  • An Electronic Warfare suite utilising a 70GB electronic warfare computer, capable of gathering and jamming SIGINT ELNIT FISINT and COMINT systems. It also contains a highly advance protection system consisting of a number of attack, maze and defence barriers with set ups not sanctioned by numerous war treaties and a highly effective dummy barrier.
  • 130GB warfare assistance computer assistance for video storage, an Identification friend or foe transponder, video and audio storage and Unmanned vehicle interfacing. It also stores objectives, mapping information, long term weather reports and stored enemy information system.
  • A holographic HUD projected by a AC5 Heads Up Display. This displays weapon interfaces, including cross-hairs and ammo, targets, marked with red markers, team mates, marked with green markers, objectives, marked with yellow markers, biometric response from user and team mates, camera links from on board camera, fibre optic probes, weapon mounted cameras, team mates, unmanned vehicles and aerial or satellite recon, geological/meteorological information and mapping and shielding power.
  • Two helmet mounted flash lights, consisting of a high power 'white' halogen lamp, 'red' halogen lamp, an on board full colour camera/Night Vision Camera for short range recording and live video transfer and a LIDAR/LASER range finder. These are protected in the same manner as the visor.
  • Two stage Nightvision-/Infra-red nightvision system. This system uses a standard passive night vision system with long range viewing under low light situations, but can be augmented with a active infra-red mode, highlighting high-heat objects and giving it an ability to see through battlefield obscurants and view in situations where no light is available for passive nightvision. Each mode can be used together or separately.
  • Regenerative Chemical, Bilogical, Radiological and Nuclear Warfare system, with air filtration and protection against airborne agents. Due to the vacuum sealed nature of the suit, only the rebreather is hardened against these threats.
  • Enhanced audio receptors that can be actively tuned through the user's neural interface, record audio input and protect against loud noises. It is capable of tuning into a pin drop in the middle of a fire fight and can even accurately record audio communication through walls.

Armour[]

  • Heavy duty armour, using multiple layers of composite armour, with a outer coating of titanium, providing ballistic defence and ablative energy defence with its refractive coating. Under that, is the resin bonded AEGIS layer, which shatters incoming projectiles and is resistant to HEAT explosives and multiple impacts. This layer is made up of multiple tiles, to improve protection and multiple hit ability. Under is a energy absorbing non-newtonian liquid nanocrystal layer, which has a triple purpose. firstly, it absorbs kinetic and thermal energy from the high levels, then distributes it safely across the entire layer to prevent this from transferring to the user, secondly, to absorb any spalling from munitions of upper layer fragments, safely stopping them before they can reach the user and thirdly, provide a last ditch defence, being stronger and safer than 3 centimetres of kevlar, without the bulk or weight. Under this is another layer titanium, which adds to the protection and provides most of the structural rigidity and support. Primary armour sections are resistant to at least two direct 15mm auto cannon hits and upwards of 15 .50 calibre hits before failing.
  • High strength triplex-titanium and nanotube weave over liquid crystal layer with underlying layers of radiation resistant layers, protecting from a full spectrum of x-ray and gamma radiation. The tertiary armour sections are resistant to just one 15mm hit and 6 .50 cal hits.
  • Titanium reinforced gauntlet provides increased resistance to damage against the outside of the fingers, providing structural support, prevents hyperextension of the digits and provides increased effectiveness against unarmoured targets in a so called 'knuckle duster' effect.

Sensors[]

  • Eye/Head Tracking systems allow the helmet to be combined with vehicles Target Acquisition Systems with out any need for interfacing systems.
  • Three stage motion scanner using passive infra-red, microwave sensors and KdV equation magnetic receiver. The Infra-red sensor uses all round 'sensor pits' that record infra-red movement around the armour, reporting back on it. The Microwave sends out frequent pulses in a 360 degree arc, recording movement it it's immediate vicinity, while the KdV magnetic receiver detects low end electromagnetic pulses, reporting back on sources of this electromagnetic energy, usually produced by living beings, or by shielding systems. This scanner is resistant to direct jamming. The scanner can also be modulated to operate as a receiver for electronic warfare.
  • Micro Active Electronically Scanned Array. This is used for terrain and target mapping and is highly resistant to jamming. The AESA is resistant to being detected and can be attuned to operate as a wide band receiver.
  • Micro sensors fitted through out the armour monitor the user, his health status, armour status and combat situation. This helps keep the user comfortable and keep the armour thermally invisible as well as provide damage report and response.
  • Terahertz Wave camera, utilising Terahertz radiation in a tight band, modulating frequency, to observe through solid objects at short range, giving limited capacity for observation through solid objects. This, combined with on-board target identification sub-systems allow for observation of the target, cross matching across multiple sensors for a full range of details on the target, such as race, size, armour, weaponry, injuries and heart rate.

Other Systems[]

  • The suit contains a pair of high power Mk. XXI CAESER Plasma-Fusion Reactors with a fuel reserve for 4 months on constant use. The reactor uses a high power polywell generator using Boron-11 and Proton fuel hoppers. The Polywell works be creating a powerful magnetic field through the use of six spherical electromagnetic coils. Inside the magnetic field, electrons injected are accelerated by the electric current. The electromagnetic structure confines most of the electrons and those that escape are retained by the electric field. This configuration traps the electrons in the middle of the device focusing them near the centre which produces a virtual cathode. The virtual cathode is used to accelerate and confine the ions to be fused which, except for minimal losses, never reach the physical structure of the Polywell. This produces a high energy plasma field, which is maintained in the reactor pack, giving it a 'fuel reserve' to be used, with the reactor working harder to produce more plasma as the suit works harder, while using the current plasma reservoir. When a new fuel hopper is inserted while the plasma reservoir is unused it can be immediately catalysed into fuel. Unused plasma after reactor shut-down is cooled, scrubbed and ejected as a near harmless cooled plasma bloom. The power needed is achieved by temporarily hooking it up to a full sized fusion reactor for five minutes. After the introduction of the fuel, the reactor uses the fuel to maintain the power. The reactor produces no waste and what little radiation is produced is contained and subjected to nano-machine radiation scrubbers allowing it to continue for days at a time without venting it, allowing it to be invisible to any potential radiation detection measures. Heat produced on board is stored in primary heat sink with a operable time of three hours to ten days, depending on the amount of strain on the unit and can be vented via the heat exchange unit on the suit's rear. The ceramic heat sink is subjected to thermal energy absorption, turning a small amount of the power into electrical energy, making the armour extremely efficient. The reactor unit features a command controlled override, allowing it to be 'killed', shutting the reactor down safely or overloaded, producing a low yield nuclear explosion.
  • The Forward Acceleration System/Fulcrum Mitigating Thrusters (FAS/FM Thrusters, or just the Thrusters) is a specialised system, using the shield emitters to generate a high impulse plasma burst. These plasma bursts act like rocket thrusters, quickly boost the user in a single direction, providing enhanced mobility for a surprisingly small package. These can be used to boost a user up to a second story window, propel them forward into close combat, preform high speed evasive dodges or get to cover quickly in a fire fight. They can also be used to increase their jumping distance, or temporarily suspend themselves in mid-air, giving them the element of surprise on their enemies. These thrusters use plasma directly from the reservoir, so it normally allows for one to three jumps, depending how much power they have in reserve.
  • Installed 2606 Thermal Optical Camouflage system, providing both optical and thermal invisibility, at the cost of a limited lifespan. The system is tunable to adapt to different sensors.
  • The Waste Disposal filters gases and waste and removes unnecessary waste and recycles what is available for the internal water reservoir.
  • 13 Chemical Injection Ports are present and can be custom loaded. The usual load is biofoam and Medi-Cell reserves and can be supplemented with a wide variety of combat drugs, such as stimulants and reaction accelerators.
  • The armour has 90 minutes of air with a pressure controlled mixture intake.
  • Each gauntlet has two fibre optic probes, which can be remotely controlled by neural interface or plugged into weaponry, providing optical links and long distance probes, with a range of two meters.
  • Thermal Regulation systems are provided by water borne ancillaries from a internal water reservoir. These are warmed or cooled by alternating cryogenic and radiator heaters, to provide internal comfort and keep the external armour as a 'black body' against background thermal radiation.
  • The Reactive Liquid Metal Layer has gotten incremental improvements, increasing the ability of the user even more. The average running speed of a SPARTAN in the armour is 117 kilometers per hour, their strength is tripled, capable of lifting, on average, 2250 pounds and jump up to 3.5 meters in height at 9 meters in length, with a running start
  • Pressure Suit for internal vacuum sealing and pressure control.
  • Electrostatic Induction plate in boots for space walks on a variety of surfaces.
  • Reactive Bi-Polymeric shock absorbing layer to protect from falls and increase endurance for long distance travel.
  • The armour has a inbuilt 3B Information module, which produces the image of a holographic keyboard on the visor upon command and uses tracing sensors on the armour to track movement to record key strokes, allowing the user to type type in information without the need for a separate computer. It reads with a 99.8% reliability.
  • Maintenance free stealth coating, which is resistant to RADAR, LIDAR and even motion detectors through unique sonic absorption paint materials along with texture buffers that reduce the RADAR play back and radar resistant shape which further reduces its cross section, a reduction to IR Signatures which reduces its signature, even during extreme activity, to a black body, a liquid glass laminate that renders it UV invisible and provides some radiation protection, Cherenkov radiation disguising, heavy data encryption and emissions control (EMCOM).
  • It's stealthy design is reinforced by a magnetic suppression system that reduces the amount of electromagnetic radiation that the armour produces.
  • Hydrostatic Gel layer, which controls internal and external temperature and change it's pressure level to protect the user. The Gel Layer is inhabited by a small colony of nanites that protect it from becoming viscous and seal gaps.
  • Severe Weather conditioning, allowing the MJOLNIR to operate to extreme cold, extreme heat, high pressure and low pressure environments, through adapting the cooling, pressure and breathing systems, preventing the suit from overheating, freezing or suffering from the effects of extreme pressure differences.
  • The Polymerized Lithium Niobocene Capillary layer is sandwiched between the outer armour and inner layer. The Polymerized LiNb is poured into the capillary network, where it is applied to hundreds of thousands of microelectrical fields, allowing fractal crystallization of its geometries, allowing it to remain amorphous, but provide massive strength increase when effected by the piezoelectric effect. The capillary network is supported by five bladders of the liquid, to replace any lost, located on the calves, inside of the forearms and on the back, providing cushioning effects against high distance falls or assaults on high strength objects, usually tank canopies. The Capillary network has a handful of nanites fed through a one way valve from the secondary network, who are designated to repair gaps in the network, repairing breaches to prevent major leaks and rerouteing the capillary system should it be damaged.
  • The Secondary Capillary System, just underneath the first one, transports water and nanites around the body, acting as both a reservoir, recycling network, coolant and repair system.

Shield Generator[]

  • The MJOLNIR uses the ATHENS Mark XVIII Electromagnetic Shielding System which has a 3000 volt range with low intensity emitters and masking systems, obscuring its energy signature from a variety of spectrums and magnetometers.
  • Energy Shield shaping allows the user to adjust the shielding surface, allowing the projection of predetermined 'solid' shielding, similar in effect to a Jackal or Skirmisher's shield, allowing overlapping of shield surfaces to protect joints or armour weaknesses or formation of aerofoils, allowing for limited short range gliding or slowing aerial descent.
    • The possibilities of the shield shaping technology were enormous. While Doctor Halsey's initial designs suggested shield shaping technology could be used for defensive, or support purposes. However, as SPARTANS got a hold of Mark VII armour, they got access to the shield shaping systems, and began to design their own programs for it. While this began as shaping customised shield layers, they began to emulate Sangheili energy weapons, then design their own, capable of preforming devastating damage to whatever is in their way. While there are hundreds of different patterns of shield manipulation, a few have become noteworthy.
      • Spartans have been known to create their own energy swords, designed to fight opposing forces with Energy Swords or other melee weapons at close range. These are difficult to use, but with training can come skill. These usually follow more earth like designs, with some Sangheili influence, but especially skilled Spartans may use one on both hands, though the energy drain can limit the time it can be used for.
      • Spartans have also emulated the energy dagger, a shorter variation of their sword, for use at short range and for quick, quiet executions. Spartans attempting to emulate the fighting styles of certain Sangheili use the Energy Dagger in their off hand and a sword in their main hand.
      • Spartans have used the shield shaping systems to equip themselves with knuckle dusters or bladed instruments on the knuckles. These are simple designs, that can be used for purposes such as disabling opponents at close range, cracking armour, or puncturing light armour, flesh and bone.
      • One of the more technologically complicated designs is a large, gauntlet like weapon, designed to deliver crushing blows. The Gauntlet features a large impact surface, with several bladed protrusions, depending on the creator and user. This design is extremely heavy, with an incredibly dense field that weighs several dozen pounds. By using the DAEDALUS SFS, the gauntlet can be lightened then suddenly its weight can be increased by gravitic reversal, usually at the moment it is swung. This helps it maintain its momentum and become incredibly deadly on impact. Armour, flesh and bone simply crumple under the blow, leading some Spartans to simply punch right through some targets. It can also cause incredibly damage to a Mgalekgolo, but not enough to kill it. The blow can also be used to crack open even heavy vehicles, multiple blows cracking open heavy armour plating.
      • One advanced technique uses a disc-like shield bubble containing condensed plasma, which uses the forearm shield emitter to either cool or heat the plasma. This disc is used like a boxing glove, punching a target, which then ruptures, creating a directional explosion/expansion of the condensed plasma either generating a white-hot explosion that melts through armour, flash-vaporizes flesh and generates enough concussive force to launch a full grown Sangheili back several feet, or creates a cryonic expansion, that flash freezes the target, capable of subjecting several individuals in a three metre area to intensely cold temperatures, in the area of -150 degrees Celsius.
      • A number of Spartans have improvised a radial shield burst, capable of reversing their shielding into a radial concussive blast outward from themselves, covering an area of a few metres, but scattering enemies, often useful for clearing the immediate area, but drains their shields entirely.
      • One of the more dangerous improvised shield weapons is a short range plasma projector. Using the plasma from the shields, ran through intense magnetic fluctuations from the shield emitters to render it super hot or cold and then accelerated to high speed out of the magnetic field. Because of a lack of plasma enveloping, this billows outwards, creating a high speed cloud of plasma, generating a flame/cryo thrower like effect. While this drains shielding, its perfect for clearing enclosed spaces, or pushing heavy infantry back. The effect usually on works out to ten metres.
      • One of the most powerful shield alterations made by SPARTANS, is the disrupter beam. The shield emitters and the shield is rerouted into a single, highly focused beam. This beam is fired from the user, completely draining their shields and knocking the emitters out for several moments, but once the beam connects with a target, the plasma billows out into a intense explosion. While short ranged, the penetrative, thermal and concussive effect of the beam means near instant death for who ever is hit, and in a short radius death is almost guaranteed.
      • Spartans have made increased solid-state shield armour, usually centred around their torso, shoulders, forearms, and sometimes in front of their faces, to greatly increase their ability to take fire before their shielding fails.
      • Hand held shields, emulating Kig-Yar Defence Gauntlets. Several patterns exist, from small bucklers resembling those used by Murmillio Skirmishers, to large shields covering almost the entire forward aspect of their bodies. These vary wildly, and generally replicate shields of ancient earth. They can also be used as improvised clubs or battering rams. These are usually ad-hoc uses, as more robust composite shield used by the UNSC is preferred.
      • The shield shaping system can be used to create air foils, creating wing suits out of MJOLNIR, allowing SPARTANS controlled descent with high agility.
  • The DAEDALUS Fall Safeguard System utilises the shielding emitters to produce a fixed electromagnetic field, facing downwards along the plane of the drop. This field pushes against the planet's magnetosphere and slows the user's descent to a manageable velocity. This makes it near useless in space operations, but allows the user to maintain a steady fall, stable enough to even be used as a firing platform.
  • The armour is now purpose designed to engage an 'Armour Lock'. Previously only a feature devised on a ad-hoc basis for MJOLNIR V armour but it's operators, and incapable of being reverse engineered on MJOLNIR VI, the VII can now, by design, preform a armour lock. By severely over charging the shielding emitters, and using a significant amount of fuel, the shield strength can be increased, and the field density quadrupled. Though this leaves the user immobile, they can survive incredibly heavy ordnance, if only for a brief period. As soon as armour lock is disengaged, the fluctuating electromagnetic fields generate a short range, high power electromagnetic pulse, in a outward pulse away from the user. The emitters are rendered ineffective for a few moments, requiring the shield to recharge.

Plug-In Modules[]

Like the MJOLNIR iterations before it, it can be modified with plug-in modules, designed to enhance the features of MJOLNIR, or provide some other benefit. These usually take the form of small pakcs that connect to the spinal interface and directly link to the main armour processor and reactor. These backs contain software and technology to enhance the tactical aspects of MJOLNIR.

  • The XM27 Responsive Holographic Form Emulator is used to create a near perfect replica of the user, using holographic light projections, which can be directed to manoeuvre away from the user or stay in the same place as them. The projections can be dispersed by gunfire, but when used by the Spartans in a coy manner, can produce startling results. They can be used to entice the enemy out of a defensive position, fake a retreat, to force a sniper to reveal themselves, distract an enemy or create the illusion of a larger force. It can only maintain one projection at a time, and even then it is relatively simple in programming, and is no where near as complex as a Ghost Emitter.
  • The XM90 Photonic Coalescence Emitter/Aegis is a hardlight emitter used to project a near impervious shield in front of the Spartan. It is incredibly resistant to plasma and kinetic projectiles, with only anti-tank ordnance being capable of overloading and dissipating the field. The shield is near static in accordance to the position of the spartan, and prevents them firing on a target, but can allow for Spartans behind them to find cover. Its generally used in situations where the enemy is expected to have high fire power, and a composite shield wouldn't cut it.
  • The XM91 Static Shield Emitter is used to produce a self sustained spherical shield on the position of the user. The shield is self sustained, in that it doesn't require energy input from a reactor to remain, but will not recharge either. It remains in the same position, should the user who deployed it move. It is made up of tessellating hexagons, and while is resistant to enemy fire, cannot withstand sustained amounts of fire from kinetic or energy weapons. It can sustain at least one burst against heavy weapons before failing. It is usually deployed when forces are under fire and require cover that can be erected nearly anywhere. It is large enough to fit several spartans, and can be used to cover retreats or advances, cover the deployment of weapons or other systems, treatment of an injured comrade or as cover when under artillery barrages in the open.
  • M29 Jump Jets are used for short range mobility enhancement. Taking the form of a large pack applied to the users back, they allow the user limited amount of air time, mitigating their weight and propelling them upwards, and in a direction. It consists of a pair of central motors, used for upward propulsion, with vectored nozzles for enhanced agility, and a pair of propulsion units on each side that adapt with the users centre of balance to propel them in any direction. This can be used to quickly scale buildings, safely drop from low altitude vehicles, scale large gaps and provides limited space agility. They are most often used for urban combat to move around near unhindered.
  • The M31 Thruster Pack is the much larger cousin of the Jump Pack, containing several groups of thrusters, providing total mobility in all axis. However, due to its size, bulk and weight, it is extremely limited in atmosphere, and used almost entirely in space. It allows users to quickly cross distances of space, and exfiltrate or infiltrate star ships or space stations. However, they are also extremely vulnerable to fire.
  • The XM239 Short-Range Translocation System, better known as the 'Blip Mod' is a highly experimental slipspace translocation module, that allows for short ranged 'jumps'. Exceedingly difficult to use, and even more expensive, this limits its use in the field. However, a single operative, who is well trained and coordinated can use a blip mod to neutralize a much larger force. Reverse engineer from salvaged Forerunner constructs, the Blip Mod allows near instantaneous travel between two points, usually at a short range. While this uses substantial power, coy use will allow Spartans to engage, disengage or re-engage almost instantaneously, escape dangerous fire fights, exfiltrate, infiltrate protected areas, scale structures, perform hit and run operations and engage enemy forces at will. Any speed or directional movement the operator carries while initiating the Blip will continue after returning to real space. The device works by encasing the user in a compressed slipstream field and shunting them through slipspace. Using the on-board armour sensors, the Blip Mod navigates its terrain, so as to not drop an individual midway through a object. The direction and location are dictated through the neural interface by the operator. Normal safety precautions can be over-ridden, for any manner of subversive needs, such as the grisly and crude 'TeleFrag', opening a slipspace portal in the same space inhabited by an enemy combat, and rending them apart with the intense gravitational forces involved. Recent operators have overridden other protocols systems to allow them to use the blip mod as a offensive/defensive instrument, hurling other people through minute slipspace portals or deflecting fire.
  • The XM87 Quantum Tunnelling/Asymmetric Pathway System, also referred to as the Q-TAP or Phase Mod, is another highly experimental system, reverse engineered from Forerunner Weapon Technology, intended for piercing the armour of warships. The Q-TAP encases the user in a compressed field of highly charged particles, and uses this to shunt the operator through a physical obstacle, such as a wall, barricade or earth, using the Quantum Tunnelling effect. While highly experimental, and ridiculously expensive, initial field tests have been extraordinarily positive about deployment and use. The Phase Mod is designed intelligently, maintaining balance and level, and not sinking the operator into the floor when activated, unless overridden. While it drains power when constantly on, it allows operators to phase through shields, walls, solid earth, warship armour, bulkheads and even enemy combatants. This allows them to access or leave otherwise sealed areas, get inside of buildings without using an entrance or dynamic and non-dynamic entry. More skilled and experienced operators have used such modules to free fall into low level warships, perform acrobatic manoeuvres through solid objects by anchoring themselves to a solid object, plant explosives inside vehicles without coming near, evade hostile fire and even strike an enemy combatant down by phasing a blade straight into their brain or heart. The Phase Mod does not come without its risk. If the Q-TAP is compromised or runs out of power mid-phase, it will phase the operator straight into the solid object, shunting a portion of it out to make room, and leaving them otherwise immobilized.

VISR Modules[]

Generations[]

Generation 1[]

The original generation of MJOLNIR, which was named and categorised retroactively. It is the first generation of what is recognised as MJOLNIR, and to many the most recognisable. Few examples still exist of this oldest generation, and most fit some intermediate level.

Generation 1.5[]

Generation 1.5 is a mid-life generation upgrade program, ensuring currently in use MJOLNIR suits had uniform and standard upgrades and targeted projection. This ensured that Mark IV and VI armour were upgraded to meet the new standards set by Mark VI.

Generation 1.91[]

Predicted as an end of life upgrade schema, this integrated a number of planned Generation 2 upgrade features, intended to extend functional life of existing Gen 1 suits without full integration.

Generation 1 (New Type)[]

G1 New Type was the life extension program for Gen 1 suits, upgraded to maintain parity with Gen 2 systems, if not outright exceed them. These were high performance suits that existed on borrowed time as they attempted to stave off generation upgrade programs in favour of Spartan-II compatible performance.

Generation 1 Development Type[]

A 'generation of one' this covered only the Mark VII MJOLNIR. Many of the developments from this would inform specialist variants of Gen 2, and inform the third MJOLNIR generation.

Generation 2[]

MJOLNIR Gen 2 was intended as a service wide replacement program to streamline, and simplify MJOLNIR, allowing for easier and faster manufacture, and improved development between the UNSC and corporate partners. The suit provides minimal improvements over Gen 1, but is significantly easier to produce in large numbers, at a fraction of the cost.

Generation 2 Intermediate[]

Gen 2 Intermediate is a mid-life performance program intended to improve performance across the generation. This gave generation-wide upgrades to meet new standards set and ensure measured goals are met.

Generation 2.5[]

Gen 2.5 was a newly upgraded pattern spurred on by performance improvements of Generation 1 New Type that exceeded Gen 2. Efforts to keep ahead had mixed results.

Generation 2+[]

While Gen 2 worked well for the majority of operators, performance disparity experienced by Spartan-IIs spurred the creation of the Gen 2+. This included a number of expensive performance upgrades that barred it from use with Spartan-III and IV personnel. It featured extensive upgrades, but remained within budgetary constraints.

Generation 2++[]

Despite the target goals of Gen 2+, Spartan-II personnel still considered it under performing in key areas. Gen 2++ featured extensive upgrades that made it prohibitively expensive, with costs inline with Gen 1 armour, but met performance targets.

Generation 2 (H mod)[]

The H Mod was a minute generational upgrade performed by Halsey on select suits that vastly improved performance with the intended recipients being Blue Team.

Generation 3[]

Generation 3 combined favourable elements of both previous generation iterations and featured desired features across all Spartan groups.

Generation 3 Phase 2[]

Gen 3 upgrades were spread into phased upgrade schemes, with Phase 2 implementing planned upgrades used in Gen 3 ACT and Gen 3 (H Mod), though full integration was not achieved.

Generation 3 Phase 3[]

Phase 3 began integration of next-gen upgrades and features, intended to extend its service life for the foreseeable future.

Generation 3 ACT[]

An offshoot development project of Gen 3, Gen 3 ACT is intended to be a platform for next generation technology, used as an 'ahead of the curve' test bed that will continue to development technology that leads into an inevitable 'Generation 4' pattern.

Generation 3 (H Mod)[]

A small, select configuration, of suits modified by Halsey for use by Spartan-II soldiers. These suits have extensive, hand-crafted modifications that put performance for ahead of other Gen 3 configurations.

Armour Variants[]

The MJOLNIR armour has a wide variety of permutations for different combat purposes. Each variant exists as a standalone unit, with different armour attributes, stealth capabilities and electronic packages. However, each unit still has a variety of shared modular elements, for field modifications. Only a handful of variants are actually issued as standard, while most are now private ventures that are requisitioned by special forces and ONI for use.

MJOLNIR Mark VII[]

2821978-web preview
"The MJOLNIR is 500 kilos of the most advanced fighting technology in the galaxy, and the representation of fear incarnate amongst the Covenant, Pirates and Insurrectionists. Its yours, if you pass training."
―SPARTAN-013

The standard variant, while perhaps considered a little 'vanilla' by some SPARTANS, represents the finest balance between protection, agility, strength, stealth and hardware capabilities. As such, its one of the most widely used variants, being used by every kind of Spartan, of every specialisation, from rifleman to point man, sniper to engineer, and beyond. Despite its simplicity compared to other variants, its is abundant with advanced technology, such as micro-fusion reactors, radiation scrubbers, automated nanomachine repair, advanced computers and next-gen sensors. The armour is tough and well designed, easy to repair and fitted with numerous redundancies and bypasses, making it one of the best armour models for endurance. To make up for its well-rounded design, it has ample room for modification and field optimisation, with a range of external hardware for customisation.

This variant is manufactured by Misriah Armoury, though all development is carried out by the Materials Group of ONI Section 3.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Achilles[]

"Just about the toughest suit I've encountered, if you can ignore the rather annoying AI."
―Elise-070

Armor: Only Spartans who have mastered themselves, bound their wrath and passion within a shell of hyperdense steel fueled by starfire, are granted access to the ACHILLES. Lesser warriors will lose themselves in a storm of blood.

Helmet: The AI that lies within the branching lattice of the ACHILLES' neural interface gnaws at the mind of its partner. No Spartan can stand alone against its urgings of unbridled excess, but through bonds of loyalty and duty they can be held at bay.

Helmet has thought angular plates, protecting a narrow visor. Large communication antennae runs along the top. Armour relies on angular, slightly rounded plates to improve performance. High performance components across the board. Powerful armour, high AI intergration

"Tech demonstrator? Tech demonstrators aren't combat capable out of the box. No, I think somebody always intended for this to be a combat model."
―Spartan Lana Grimaldi

The Anubis pattern MJOLNIR is a high-tech technology demonstrator, designed to mount Lethbridge Industrial's own thruster design. It was festooned with advanced armour features and next-gen sensors, and was supposed to become a demonstrator of LI's future designs. However, when it became redundant even before it hit the showroom, it was instead retooled as a limited-run model, but demand has forced LI to resume production.

Highly coveted, the Anubis has a mixture of advance armour features, well-tuned sensors, and design features that make it an all-round lethal suit. The armour of the Anubis is highly angular, using steep sloping lines to increase protection without adding weight. Both the cuirasse and the helmet follow this design principal, allowing the operator to take fire head on without fear. To protect the throat it has a gorget that protects their neck. The visor is narrow and thin, improving protection. Armour is slightly heavier than other variants, using new manufacturing processes to mould titanium alloy plates to lower layers using a graphite based resin.

The Anubis is fitted with an advanced sensor network, using two sensor pits, positioned on each side of the head. This gives them excellent 360 degree view around the body, and also great directional capability. These use designs, technology and programming provided by Sangheili, creating an acute anti-personal sensor with a high refresh-rate, allowing the operator excellent awareness of his surrounding, and good threat-tracking, especially in close quarters. At the moment, these sensors have not been fully integrated into the War Net, meaning their sensor results are not shared amongst their comrades. This is because of continued ONI paranoia over Sangheili involvement in the design.

It's main reactor packs are actually Takomaks, using a large circular design. While by no means advanced, they are extremely reliable, and have good performance across the range. They utilise a particle cooling system, using circular doppler cooling banks, using particle beams to strip heat from the reactor. These in turn power its thruster system, utilising large thrusters than those used in other models, giving it excellent punch to move when it needs to.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Argonaut[]

"There's Spartan fast, then there's Argonaut fast."
―Codename SLATEBACK

The Argonaut is a rare MJOLNIR pattern used by Office of Naval Intelligence for combat specialists. While most ONI suits are designed for either site defence or clandestine missions, the Argonaut is designed for direct action, stealth features taking a back seat to combat features. Designed from top-to-bottom by the Watershed Division for high-speed, high-impact combat, the Argonaut mixes good armour, excellent hardware features, and a unique reflex modification system.

The Argonaut is built tough, with a heavily armoured cuirasse, triple layered pauldrons, and heavily armoured plates on the arms and legs. The Cuirasse has a thin profile, with layered plates designed to ward off harm. The helmet matches this, with the majority of it being made of two pieces of armour, using forged ceramic plates with titanium ribbing, and outer titanium plating. The faceplate is reinforced in turn, with reinforcement struts across the visor that make it highly resistant to impacts. A recurring joke that the helmet of a speeding Argonaut suit is more deadly than most fire arms.

The most notable feature of the armour is the reflex enhancing move-by-wire system. Tuned directly into the neural interface of the helmet, it uses wires to transmit electronic signals from the interface to the suit. This enhances reaction speed considerably, transmitting signals to suit motor systems faster than the brain can transmit the signal. This noticeably enhances the already incredibly reaction speeds of Spartans, allowing them to react faster to combat situations. The suit's main interface is custom designed for this feature, with override controls and interface controls, preventing dangerous motions and keeping performance level and predictable. This interface has an incredibly good signal-to-noise ratio, resulting in precision not seen in other suits. This is mostly due to the Block 10 neural interface controller, used as the basis of it's interface. Because of these features, the suit is far from "plug and play" and relies on long term synchronization between user and suit before they can make use of the enhanced agility.

The reactor systems features off the shelf reactors, giving good performance at a variety of power levels. What improves performance is the high speed coolant injection system, using magnetic mirror confinement and an accelerated beam of neutrons that strip the excess heat, keeping the reactor temperatures in line with expected levels.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Argus[]

H5G-Render-Linda
Linda-058: "All of the UNSC's most advance sensor technology"
Melanie-038: "And you're wearing all of it, right?"
―Linda and Melanie discuss the ARGUS-class armour[src]

A cutting-edge Armour model produced by the Watershed Division inside ONI, the Argus enhances sensor capabilities. The armour has the largest range of the most advanced sensors ever placed on a MJOLNIR armour system, including but not limited to, a long distance terahertz wave camera, two song distance electro-optical cameras with thermal filters, a high-definition holographic camera, a precision LIDAR, and a high power electromagnetic array. These are combined with numerous smaller sensors to serve two purposes. The first is to provide the user with incredible situation awareness and threat tracking, allowing them at a glance to tag and track a target at long range, and through multiple structures. The helmet electrical systems utilise unique cuing methods, and sensor filtering, allowing the user to keep track of targets without their interface becoming cluttered.

To aid in it's tasks, it has passive cyber-intrusion systems, designed to to quietly gather intelligence from neighbouring electronic systems and augment it's own sensor feed. They in turn link into intelligence gathering networks, for quickly uploading and downloading additional data. The armour itself functions as a control node for the War Net in the field. The data it uploads enhances tactical awareness for surrounding units, who share the accurate sensors of the Argus, while in turn it downloads data from other suits, enhancing it's own sensor feed out to increase it's threat tracking capabilities.

The armour features higher than normal stealth augmentation, with coating treatment to reduce sensor feedback, emission control and encryption to protect it's own sensors from detection. It's reactors are also shielded against emissions and interference.

The armour features heavily chest plating, designed to protect the user, and the War Net control systems, with a rounded breastplate and a gorget. The helmet is, likewise, well armoured, in order to protect its more delicate electrical systems. The sensors are all shielded against interference and armoured to prevent damage. The twin reactor packs use secondary cyclic coolant systems that are powered by the reactors themselves. These use particle beam cooling to keep the reactors cool, and chill the coolant used with the suit electronics.

The Argus is deadly in a wide variety of roles, being exceedingly multipurpose without many flaws or weaknesses. Spartans prefer it for reconnaissance and sniper duties though, their positioning making use of it's stealth design, sensor features, and War Net node capabilities. The Argus is specially manufactured by the Watershed Division on a case-by-case notice.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Athlon[]

"Typical Misriah. We ask for an armour suitable for live-fire training exercises, and they build an armour still suited to front-line combat"
―Colonel Urban Holland

Originally designed by Misriah Armouries for use during military exercises and training, the Athlon armour is designed for high-end performance and survivability. Despite being designed for training missions, its excellent performance under combat conditions has lead to a number being requisitioned for green and black operations.

Athlon armour features smooth curves, designed to deflect the majority of harm away by virtue of its deigns, and encompassing plates to leave no weak spot for easy attack. The armour features sophisticated safety systems, fitted with multiple redundancies, all dedicated to the protection of the user. The armour uses these bonded materials, creating a strong plating resistant to harm. However, should it be breached, it must be replaced, unlike baseline armour on more easily repaired patterns. The seamless design of the plates, and single casting, means that they're also more resistant to damage as they lack structural weak points. The final design feature is the free joints, allowing for a wide range of uninhibited movement.

The helmet features sparse systems, most dedicated to protection of the user and control of the safety systems, but its main feature is an exotic magnetorheological dampening system, specially tuned to Spartan physiology. This liquid suspension uses the armour's own electromagnetic shielding system to control the liquid, which hardens and softens under specific field stimuli. This allows it to enhance the protection of the Spartan against penetrating munitions, while simultaneously increasing their protection against concussion and impact injury. The helmet features the standard battery of sensors, but does not stray far from baseline.

The twin fusion reactors use a 'two-step' boot up process, allowing the armour to seamlessly ramp up from low-energy to high-energy outputs, without any loss in performance or ability. To keep them cooled the armour features laterally aligned Doppler cooling lasers, keeping the armour well within comfortable tolerances, even under stress.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Atlas[]

"The Atlas of myth carried the world on his shoulders. I'll settle for my own body weight in weaponry."
―Spartan Jay Boroi

The Atlas is a monolithic suit of armour, designed for absolute survivability against the toughest foes, in the most dangerous environments. The suit functions well in hazardous environments, close quarters fire fights, boarding actions, and urban pacification missions. The Atlas packs numerous features, making it a lethal tool for all those environments.

The armour, and suit functionality, is over-engineered, with triple redundancies on most systems, and a reliance on older, more reliable technology, over more modern equivalents. The plating itself is extremely tough, with super-dense titanium, over a tungsten cage, and ceramic tile inserts beneath that, all mounted on shock absorbing gel pockets. The armour is extremely resilient, and even holds up well against plasma, and anti-armour rounds. The armour can further be modified with additional armour modules, improving functionality and protection. The suit opts for a wide visor, that favours operator visibility, which makes it excellent for situational awareness. However, this usually represents a weak-point in the armour. Not so for the visor. It is crafted from layers of nano-laminates, sourced from Covenant ship-building technology. These are heavily compacted, creating a visor that is as tough as, if not tougher than, the armour. This heavy armour does come with a downside though. It is more cumbersome, and the joints are not as mobile as other variants.

When it comes to hardware features, the Atlas is somewhat lacking. It features the basic range of sensors, most of which are modelled on those of the of the Mark VI MJOLNIR due to their famed reliability. The suit can also fit weapon modules, designed to augment user fire power. The modules are unique, and designed for use only with the Atlas pattern. This include shoulder mounted weapon packets, such as a micro-rocket module modelled on the Hydra, or a short range LMG mounted, both of which track the user's sight for aiming. They can also mount short-range mortars, for artillery support on the fly. The gauntlets can also mount a whole host of systems such as SMGs, breaching shotguns, defoliant projector, cutting blades, machetes, guided flechette launchers, and multi-grenade modules.

The power all of this, the Atlas mounts two high power motors, using a staggered ramp up system controlled by a floating magnetic mount. This allows it to jump up or down in performance to match changing battlefield conditions. This is further augmented with a nano-machine driven cooling system, suing nano-machines to transfer heat manually through micro-heatsinks.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Aviator[]

"You know, at first we questioned the need for Spartan pilots. But their augmented nature, and the augmented nature of MJOLNIR, gives them an edge in aerial manoeuvres like no pilot. Never complain about Spartan pilots until they navigate through a wall of Covenant flak to retrieve you and your downed team."
―Spartan Malik

The Aviator is a leap forward into the unknown, creating specialised air-combat armour for Spartans. Owing to the new found independence of Spartan operators in the Spartan branch, the need for specialists cross trained for inter-branch disciplines became apparent. Previous to this, Pilot variants had been created and modified on an ad-hoc basis, using existing air-space combat components, and never attained any real variant. This changed with the creation of Aviator.

Aviator was designed for the ground up to be used with any existing, or future, UNSC combat aircraft. While primarily designed for use with craft in the fighter designation, such as the F-218D/E Sabre, F-41C Broadsword or F/A-110 Axe, its never seen use with these craft, and instead sees itself in use with atmospheric gunships, such as the AV-22D Sparrowhawk, MV-14F Super Hornet, and F/AV-77 Raptor.

In line with it's specialist role, the helmet is fitted with a wide variety of aerospace technologies, designed to allow it to communicate with it's vehicle, and fly it without concern. Top amongst these features is the ultrawideband machine interlink installed in the helmet, allowing pilots to communicate with the machine using thought-to-digital input rather that analogue input. The helmet is fitted with a wide visor, assisted by augmented reality inputs the create a larger composite image, allowing them to clearly seem enemy craft outside of their normal visual range. This is also fully compatible with the panoramic night vision system, giving them a full range of visibility. The helmet cueing system uses a fast-reacting heads up display, displaying a variety of information fed from the aircraft. This allows it to accurately pick out and assign targets, for speedy engagement, and can even be used to target threats to the rear. The helmet's own stabilisation features reduce perceived jitter and vibration to zero, and can simplify decision making processes with it's sensor fusion capabilities. All this gives it an undeniable edge in the observe, orient, decide, and act (OODA) loop, key to any pilot engagement.

The armour itself is designed to be lightweight, easy to use inside an aicraft, and feature no catching elements, allowing it to navigate cramped spaces without worry. The plating is designed for protection against small arms, but in favour of heavy plating, it uses multiple redundant shield generators. For flight purposes, it is fitted with an enhanced environmental layer to cope with the intense G-forces the pilot is subjected to. To alleviate this, it is fitted with integral gravity compensators, keeping the pilot comfortable under intensive manoeuvres, and has a flight combat computer mounted between the shoulder blades, giving it accelerated processing power and an encrypted interlink, enhancing system communication between the pilot and the craft.

The twin reactor packs are relatively lightweight and easy on power. To keep performance smooth, even under intense duress from multiple energy intensive systems, it uses a cooling laser fired directly into the reactor, keeping performance up.

The suit, and it's various systems, have all been designed by Hannibal Weapon Systems, with additional software and hardware components for suit performance and communication provided by the UNSC.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Breaker[]

BreakerH5GRender
"The suit is tip-top at close-quarters boarding operations in deep-space. Any suit that can survive the rigours of deep-space, hull breaching, and the close quarters firefight that follows is something to fear."
―Spartan Lana Grimaldi

The Breaker is a no-nonsense Mjolnir variant, marketed as a "tactical supremacy" design. The Breaker epitomises Imbrium Machine Complex's design tenets of reliable, battle tested components, and cutting edge technology. The armour focuses on increased endurance in the field, sturdy construction, compatibility with a wide range of sub-systems and off-the shelf battle-tested components. The armour uses unique triplex ceramic plating, which while cost-prohibitive, it has a increased resilience to fire. The electronics are hardened against damage and electromagnetic interference, allowing it to survive the rigours of combat and deep-space radiation without failing. The shielding emitters use numerous redundancies to remain functional after significant harm. It uses a wide-area visor, giving excellent vision during close quarters and EVA operations. The helmet also features a rear-facing camera, another must-have option for close quarters fighting in cramped starships.

The armour plating is designed to make the most of what it has. It uses thin plating manufactured from plates of AEGIS that have been super-compressed in a gravimetric forge, creating armour that is thinner, but just as strong as armour twice as thick. This process remains largely experimental, and is only used with the Breaker-pattern armour during to the cost-prohibitive nature of it. This armour makes it quite sturdy, in a small package. It also gives it incredible mobility, nearly unchallenged amongst other patterns.

The entire armour set is hardened against both vacuum and high radiation exposure. Much of its designs, safety protocols and core systems are modelled on IMC's own line of spaceworker suits. Much of its design was modelled to meet the demanding requirements of boarding teams for ship-to-ship combat, especially Naval Intercept Operation teams. Its environmentally hardened nature also make it excellent for operations in areas with dangerous environments, such as high-radiation, poisonous atmospheres and high or low temperature.

The sensor packages are equally to the point, with overlapping sensor fields for quick target acquisition and tracking. It uses several motion sensors to give an overlapping field of vision, with greater directional tracking and perception.

The reactor system uses a single lateral venting system, using a series of staggered vents to scrub radiation, cool it, then vent it. The reactors themselves have smooth performance across the range, without the need to rapidly increase or decrease output. Their key design focus is efficiency, something not usually found on reactors of this size. This are mounted high on the operator's back, and close to their plating, creating a higher than normal centre of gravity, easily compensated for by the suit's own mechanics, and Spartan physiology.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Buccaneer[]

"Somebody is manufacturing their own MJOLNIR suits. What's worse, they're not half bad"
―Vice Admiral Serin Osman

BUCCANEER helmets use off-the-shelf components, but the casing is custom made. The HUD is also compatible with military VISRs, employing ingenious hacks to bypass licensing locks. Though heavily damaged, forensic analysis of remains codenamed BUCCANEER indicate it is a functional - if crude - MJOLNIR variant.

Recycled materials. Smooth platin. Exposed systems. Armour focuses on a one hit defence, and is compromised following that. A little crude. Eva style faceplate, suggests use. Accurate sensor boxes on each side of the head. Uses only a single reactor, near commercial spec, two large thrusters/vents

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Centurion[]

H5G-Render-Fred
"As the Spartan Corps expanded, with a cohesive command structure, rather than the ad-hoc mess of the original Spartan Branch, the Centurion moved from technology demonstrator to a vital piece of unit infrastructure. A mobile command post for a mobile Spartan unit."
―Codename: GUILLOTINE

The Centurion is an experimental platform developed by the Watershed Division inside ONI, that undergoes regular changes in iteration and design. Originally the testbed for a variety of technologies, the Centurion has persisted thanks to its wide range of functional hardware and software upgrades, that give it a distinct edge over other variants, which has kept it requested by front line officers.

It has a unique communication system, using two high power communication systems running parallel for seamless encryption and decryption of communications. This is linked to a powerful meta-material antennae that is looped around the raised area of the helmet, giving it a large antennae without taking up room. This allows it to maintain precise communication over long distances. This is teamed with other interesting upgrades, such as finely tuned sensors that form composite sensor images of the terrain and enemy, fast processing speed and two high power reactors, both of which are entirely detachable and use staged reactors to switch from an economical level of power production, to a high level of power production for combat situations.

The armour features advanced C4I2SR (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Interoperability, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) architecture, allowing it to operate at strategic and tactical levels as a platform for mission planning, battlespace preparation and information dissemination. This makes it ideal for squad leaders. It also features a secondary antennae on the left shoulder, intended as a long-range receiver that can receive signals from orbit and beyond.

The addition to these features, the armour has been designed to maximise protection in close quarters, with steep angles and few weak points, only moderately affecting joint mobility. This armour plating focuses on high-resistance, featuring double layers not normally seen on MJOLNIR, with twin layers of AEGIS ceramic inserts, with spalling layers sandwiched in-between.

The Centurion was designed and built by the Watershed Division, with several initially suits being manufactured, but since it is now leaving prototyping stage, its now being moved to full scale manufacturing within Watershed's secret fabrication centres.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Cinder[]

"You're using molotovs? Against me? Try again!"
―Spartan Ray Al-Hassan

Armor: Used by Spartan special containment teams, CINDER armor features thermal superconducting coatings and a reinforced shock-absorbing gel layer to mitigate the risk of using thermobaric and incendiary weapons at close range.

Helmet: Special containment teams respond to a wide range of hazardous biological containment, mitigation, and eradication issues at UNSC facilities. For this reason, the CINDER helmet features a full suite of lab-grade chemsniffers and hazmat filters.

Improved environmental systems, and life support. Protection against chemical and biological weapons a must. Heavy duty armour. Canted reactors with shrouded exhausts.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Combat Information Operator[]

MJOLNIR CIO
"Innies spent four weeks chasing their tails, trying to find our FOB. We were hiding out in the attic above their operations centre, tapped into their lines the entire time. The CIO allowed us to do that."
―Anonymous SPARTAN

The Combat Information Operator variant is designed to gather, analyse and counter intelligence in the field, without support or expanded gear. It can intercept a variety of intelligence, decrypt and record it, while also recording a variety of sensor inputs, from RADAR, LIDAR, motion sensors and varying light wavelengths, and share it in real time amongst several hundred operators with time lag or delay. In addition, it has a expanded electronic warfare suite, capable of interception and decryption of sensors and communications, allowing it to easily feed false information. It has two parallel computer systems to decrypt, process and store data, and each has significant processing power. It's also highly adept at information denial, tracking down any enemy infiltrator attempting to broadcast sensitive data and terminating them with extreme prejudice.

The CIO has unusually heavy armour for a stealth-centric variant, featuring overlapping chest plates, gorget, heavy duty pauldrons, and reinforced spinal plating, as well as heavily armoured helmet, featuring a 'tri-eye' set up, with each 'eye' using a cluster of spaced sensors, like the compound eye of an insect. These numerous feeds are stitched together into one composite image, giving excellent depth perception. Three of these slaved together creates an incredibly acute set of cameras that can switch from colour TV to infra-red night-vision. Much of this armour is focused on protecting the extremely fragile electronic systems. The twin reactor packs are heavy duty fusion reactors, featuring external heat exchange systems, another unusual feature for a stealth variant, but required due to its high heat production during electronic warfare operations. The CIO was developed by Acheron Security, with assistance from special forces operators.

The armour features a battery of sensors, both normal and non-standard, giving it excellent multispectral views. Using neural interface bypasses engineered for the CIO, to create customised synthesis profiles that allow them to map the suit sensors to their own sense. This creates a highly accurate, and very precise sensor network, which work by reaction, rather than input. This creates a heightened sense of strategic awareness.

It has a single of electronic warfare pod, that can be exchanged for other units, to allow the user to act as a roving electronic warfare unit, assaulting the enemy's ability to communicate, coordinate and counter attack. Included electronic warfare pods are radio jamming pods, effectively cutting communications within a 80 metre radius and knocking RADAR's out of order, sensor jammers that confuses motion sensors across a similar range, decoy dispersion pod, that can launch NEMESIS Decoy Launcher munitions, such as flares, radio jammers and decoys, a cyber warfare pods that autonomously attacks enemy networks with a variety of methods, preventing them from coordinating properly and opening the way for cyber warfare specialists, ECCM pod that provides benefits for networked operators, such as automated frequency hopping, signal polarization and radiation homing to find those responsible, and the last electronic warfare pod is a small electromagnetic pulse generator. While MJOLNIR 'hard' system are invulnerable to EMP, their shields, and weapon systems are not, so the pod acts as a last resort system to 'black out' an area. It has a dialable radius from 5 metres, up to seventy, and can be used to disrupt enemy equipment, vehicles or other vital systems, once being famously used to crash a warship when detonated inside the bridge.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Commando[]

2821968-web preview
"Fast, well armoured, and extremely twitchy. Yeah, Commando certainly lives up to its name."
―Anonymous Spartan

The MJOLNIR Commando variant is a all-purpose combat armour designed for multiple roles. The armour design is tough, resistant to damage, and lightweight and agile, giving an extremely adaptable and well rounded armour. The helmet contains advanced hardware and software packages, enhancing processing power and tactical awareness. It has finely balanced armour, keeping it lightweight, but utilising aggressively angled glacis plates to increase defence. The armour is heavily reinforced, relying on heavily sloped plates, designed to deflect munitions and increasing the thickness of the armour without increasing the heat of the armour. For enhanced protection, it uses wide pauldrons, protecting the joint without obstructing it. The reactor packs utilise an energy control system that can adjust input across several levels, ramping up massively for combat situations, but at a cost of heat generation, causing the sinks to heat up, but giving it incredible power for operating multiple systems.

The helmet uses clusters of high definition sensors, designed to keep the user safe by heightening their awareness of their surroundings, and focusing on forward sensors to tracking targets in a cone in front of them. Its highly accurate, and perfect for spotting threats, even through heavy cover. In addition, it uses a Command Network Module for synchronization with the War Net, making it ideal for long distance communications, and as a tool for squad leaders for updating their team members.

The armour is frequently used by any combat teams, relying on the strong mixture of mobility and defence, and is often during urban fighting, or by reconnaissance teams during reconnaissance in force. The armour is being manufactured by Naphtali Contractor Corporation, using previous designs by Chalybs to speed ahead development.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Copperhead[]

H5G-Render-Vale
"Saw one once. Forward Op team on Mamore. The operator new exactly what the reb was gonna do, at every turn. Thing was damn Eerie, I tell ya"
―Anonymous Spartan

Another radical design by the Watershed Division, the Copperhead utilises a mixture of experimental design and next-gen computers to increase its capability in urban combat, through enhanced agility and sensors, rather than increased armour and improved resilience. The armour uses 'militarized anthropology' Decision Support System (DSS), an electronics suite that can be traced back to systems used by special operations teams combating the Insurrection in urban areas. The DSS uses the armour's sensors, tens of thousands of reference files, and colonial records, to provide an intensive scan of individuals around them, and create a behavioural response based on them. The system monitors an individuals facial expression, body language, sweat secretions, heart rate, pupil dilation, voice modulation and environmental factors. It can also draw upon target data stored in UNSC databases. Recent software upgrades allow it to work against a wider variety of races. This allows the operator to react based upon the target's response, allowing them to more accurately interrogate them, discern if they represent a threat, or attempt to defuse dangerous situations. The whole system can cue up responses in order to navigate conversations with human and alien, from a variety of cultures.

The armour is specialised for close quarters urban fighting, but highlights agility over protection, opting for slim, overlapping plating. This gives it excellent agility, at the cost of protection, so a Spartan must rely on their wits and reactions to win close quarters engagements. The helmet is well armoured to protect the delicate systems powering it's incredible abilities.

The armour is brimming with advanced sensors, designed for minuet detail, rather than range or accuracy. The RADAR has heightened mapping capabilities, and the visual sensors have facial recognition, and heat filters. The audio sensors are tuned to pick up voices and heart beats of surprising distances. As a result, the sensors are limited to short range detection. It's sensors are mostly fitted in the two sensor nubs on each side of the helmet, giving it both great directional capabilities and awareness. Fitted in front of these are sensor baffles that function as sensor jammers and emission controls. These allow the operator to maintain secrecy, avoiding detection while preventing their sensors from being triangulated.

The armour is designed from the ground up for ONI's direct action teams. It is has a sensor-resistant design, and has a coating designed to render it invisible to ultra-violet and infra-red sensors. The reactors use advance scrubbers, and several heat sinks to keep it emission free, masking it. The armour is manufactured by Watershed Division on a limited production, meaning each suit is a carefully maintained resource that is rarely squandered outside of ONI.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Crusader[]

"I saw him, in the midst of the outbreak, as radiant as a star. Where he strode, fire followed."
―Anonymous Republic Warrior

Unlike most modern MJOLNIR variants, which are have design features that allow them to perform several roles, the Crusader is a singularly designed armour, designed for one purpose. That purpose is to combat biological weapon outbreaks. Designed in response to the horrors of the Flood, the armour has been tailored top to bottom to combat these threats.

The armour is specially tailored to deal with biological out breaks, with heavy focus placed on survivability and protection. The whole armour is hard-sealed against vacuum and atmosphere, and the helmet features a quadruple regenerating filtering system to protect the user from biological agents, chemicals of flood spores in the air. The armour itself is heavily reinforced, with few gaps and weak points. Most features of the armour, including shield emitters, power systems, sensors and computer systems are compartmentalised from one another to prevent a single breach compromising the whole armour. It has thermal and motion sensors especially tailored to tracking biological targets, regardless of size, with high accuracy. It also has inbuilt chemical analyses system so it can perform on site analysis of biological or chemical compounds. The suit also has high pressure and excellent temperature tolerance.

The armour is fitted with a variety of biowarfare and containment protocols, most hard wired into the suit's electronic systems. It has a number of contingencies in case of breach by biological agents. The first off, is the first line of defence. An electrostatic charge is held in capacitors until released, causing anything touching the armour to be flash fried, purging the suit. In case of breaches, the natural nano-machine colonies in the armour are programmed to fight back against invasion, exterminating foreign bodies with extreme prejudice, though this method is only a stalling tactic against the Flood. For the most dangerous of circumstances, it has a final defence mechanism to protect the operator. The plasma held within the shielding is heated in a buffer field, coating the user in a cloak of white-hot plasma fire that is of no threat to them, but lethal to anything attempting to touch the suit. Unfortunately, this mode renders the sensors almost blind, and consumes substantial amounts of energy, but turns the operator into a living torch, untouchable by any enemy. In the event of catastrophic armour breach, and confirmed biological infection of the wearer, the suit activates an override protocol and destroys itself, and the user, overloading the reactor to generate a tremendous ball of fire, incinerating everything in a fifteen foot radius. [1]

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Cyclops[]

"Drop the shield? Hell naw. I got power to spare!"
―Anonymous Spartan

A product of Imbrium Machine Complex's secretive Io Design Lab, the Cyclops was a specialised armour designed for high power efficiency and strong interoperability with a variety of plug-in modules and optional sub systems. The armour utilises small superconducting loops spaced throughout the CYCLOPS subassembies and a more powerful fusion power pack, with stacked capacitors to keep a large store of auxiliary power. These enhanced power systems give it a substantial edge in fights that make use of power intensive systems.

The armour utilises heavy duty plating, needed to protect its delicate power systems. These plates allow it to shrug off significant harm with little care. They have sophisticated self-repair features, and nano-machine algorithms that keep the armour functional.

As with its name, it features a single, Cyclopean eye. Rather than a visor, it is in fact a bundle of sophisticated visual sensors. Using multiple cameras bundled together, like the eye of an insect, it gives the armour amazing visual acuity and depth perception. They can switch seamlessly from full-colour, to night vision.

A popular armour for protracted engagements, its one of IMC's more expensive models. A stripped-down version of the Cyclops power system is being tested for use as a backpack-carried energy source for UNSC energy weapons.

Armor: The CYCLOPS can parasitically connect to both UEG and Covenant urban infrastructure networks, levering their hardware and databases to augment its own network of emplaced sensors, drones, and tacnet links.

Helmet: CYCLOPS suits are urban predators, created to hunt in dense urban and industrial environments. The UNSC Infinity's increased engagement on rebellious human colonies and Covenant worlds present ideal testing grounds.

Uses sensors to see. Has environmental systems capable of surviving hostile urban environments, and underwater. Heavy plating. Vectored thrust nozzles allow it to get quite nimbly. Uses an anti-gravity system between the shoulder blades to improve agility and balance.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Cypher[]

"The armour is a mystery. Its quality is undeniable, but why is IMC pumping out so many of these suits? Of course, Spartans in the field never ask these questions."
―Anonymous UNSC procurement specialist

The Cypher armour pattern is a shadowy design from Imbrium Machine Complex. The Cypher is an armour with a variety of features and design details that seem to fill no known purpose or role, but rather serve as a 'jack of all trades'. As combat goes, it fits a number of roles well, but excels in no one area.

The Cypher features both decent armour and good stealth features. It features heavy armour around the chest and a good mixture of armour and visibility on the helmet. The armour uses new plating design, using two offset layers of hexagonal ceramic plates, reducing weak points. In order to cover design gaps, it also utilises armour components from other MJOLNIR variants. The sleek design is sensor resistant, and is treated in anti-stealth materials, creating a decent defence against sensors.

The reactor packs installed on the suit are dependable, and feature a phased pulse system, making efficiency and responsiveness its top features. It uses an actuated reactor opening to make for quick and speedy, if messy, cooling under emergency situations.

The Cypher is manufactured by IMC, and was drafted in the Io Design Labs. Discrepancies in information provided by IMC mask the original manufacture date, and the numbers manufactured.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Deadeye[]

2821969-web preview
"Our definition of 'Love' is making a shot to the head of a target 12 kilometres away using an high power sniper rifle and Augur sight... Love is knowing your target, putting them in your targeting reticule, and together, achieving a singular purpose against statistically long odds. If that is love, then call the Deadeye cupid"
―HWS manufacturer description

The Deadeye is a variant specially developed for sniper teams. The Deadeye has greatly expanded hardware and visual sensors, allowing the armour to acquire targets at extreme range, positively identify them and track them. The armour can synchronise with a variety of sensor feeds effortlessly, such as unmanned ground sensors, unmanned vehicles, reconnaissance aircraft and satellites, and can use these to track the target. It can the synch up with the targeting system in their rifle's scope, and synchronise data with it, such as target tracking, meteorological conditions and fire control if possible, before finally target locking. By manipulating the armour's control and linking this in to the target acquisition and the weapon's sight, the Deadeye could, nanosecond by nanosecond, adjust the user's aim to maintain every shot is precise and on target, regardless of range, pervading weather conditions, or the conditions of the user.

The Deadeye utilises stealth technologies to maintain the operator remains undetected while utilising it, and features low profile twin reactor packs and shielded electronics. Many of its components are off the shelf parts taken from HWS's Infiltrator Armour. However, it has focus taken from the cyberintrusion systems, and instead focused on increased stealth and environmental tolerance. As such, the twin reactors are fitted with an intensive waste recycling, the suit has a focus on emissions cloaking, and the helmet is equipped with redundant rebreathers, allowing it to survive in any environment, for extended periods. It is particularly well suited for zero-gravity sniper assignments, something no other armour can boast.

The Deadeye is manufactured by Hannibal Weapon Systems, and tested in ship graveyards of Tribute. In honour of their proving ground, each suit of armour incorporates a small alloy piece from one of the ships resting over Tribute.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Decimator[]

"The Decimator is designed to marry the design features of the Mark VII, with the Second Generation suits. In this role, it exceeds."
―Spartan Chief of Staff Jun-A266

The Decimator is a unique suit of armour, designed to take key improvements on earlier models, and test bed them on what would have then been Second Generation MJOLNIR suits. While many of these improvements have since been refined and shared across the entire range of MJOLNIR patterns, the Decimator remains in production, as it's combat performance is extremely admirable.

The Decimator is an above-average suit, performing extremely well in key-areas such as armour, shielding, and combat sensors. It's armour is well placed, allowing for good agility and good defence. Angular plating, with rounded edges, improves performance overall, and the new-formulae titanium used in the armour allows it to be stronger and lighter than over. The suit boasts a whole host of sensors and electronics, with overlapping sensor fields from motion, magnetic, and visual sensors, that can perform wide band scanning, or narrow band analysis. The war-fighting computer inside the suit is also impressive, with high-computational power, and excellent performance under a number on conditions, allowing the suit to act as a War Net node. The shields are also of note, with a protean system that allows for high-strength shielding that can flip to new shaping modes instantly, without any of the lag associated with other MJOLNIR models.

The suit does all of this with two of the most efficient reactors ever fitted to a suit. With a high weight-to-power ratio, and it's much vaunted efficiency, it can allow the suit to go all out without any worries about power concerns. It uses many of the reactor technologies found on previous models of the baseline MJOLNIR, but refined to a point where they've become sufficiently more powerful.

The Decimator is manufactured by the Materials Group on an ad-hoc basis, usually on response to requests, making it a rare, but highly treasured armour, and is usually reserved for specialists.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Defender[]

2821970-web preview
"Designed by IMC, specifically at the request of the Office of Naval Intelligence, the Defender is used to secure the most important facilities, protecting the humanity and their interests, across the stars."
―IMC Marketing Material

The Defender is a specialised armour, manufactured by Imbrium Machine Complex. Designed for high endurance, long term missions, often without support, the Defender has enhanced armour and sensors, but has also been engineered in various areas to increase endurance, and fitted with additional electronic counter measures, to protect against potential electronic assaults on the armour, or the assets protecting it.

Much of the armour's features have been tailored for urban environments, giving it an edge in close quarters, and its sensory and communication systems have been tuned to be more effective in urban environments. Mounted along the helmet's centre is a chevroned pattern of armour plates, slightly overlapping, creating a hardy structure that deflects and sheers munitions. This is reflected on the chest plating as well. Other features include a heavily reinforced, wide view visor, capable of resisting high calibre rounds and plasma munitions, high strength cuirasse and pauldron and high mounted power packs, intended to keep the armour's centre of gravity closer to that of the user. The power packs have reinforced casings, and use simple and robust methods of cooling and cleaning them, rather than any exotic technology pieces. These are fitted with redundancies to allow them to keep operating, even when one is no longer functional and the other has been damaged.

Defender suits see a wide range of use, both with regular Spartan units, and with ONI detachments. With standard Spartan deployments, the suit is used for defending civilian populations, protecting UNSC installations, and on colonies experiencing unrest. It's also used in counter-insurrection deployments. With ONI, it is used to defend their sites, protecting them against incursion, and even as a protector at a safe house.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Dynast[]

"About the best performing suit for close quarters. Now we just wait for the price to drop."
―Rear Admiral Musa-096

The Dynast is a successor to the CQB and CQC-class armour patterns, taking their basic design cues and architecture, and improving them with new technologies and design features. A 'Brawler' class armour, it reigns supreme in close-quarters, with it's trademark combination of agility, resiliency, and awareness.

The main focus of the suit is it's prodigious armour, that manages to mix high manoeuvrability, with excellent armour, and good joint protection. The armour consists of seamless plating, all fitted together so well that there's almost no visible line between plates. This armour is made up of alternating layers of compressed carbon nanotube, and hyperdiamond sheets, creating a unique plating that is almost entirely immune to conventional fire power, and extraordinarily durable. However, this armour comes at a significant monetary cost. The armour is further augmented with a thermo-reactive dispersion system, that disperses some of the heat from energy weapons, robbing them of some of their lethality. The armour follows up on this with a T-shaped visor, mixing protection and visibility, and a battery of sensors, designed for effectiveness at short-range, and for high-refresh rate, keeping the operator up to date on the latest developments around him. The joints are carefully designed, allowing them to be free moving, and non-obstructive, giving a vast range of movements to the operator, without compromising protection.

The armour packs two high-impulse reactors, with a higher-than normal cycle rate, but the downside of this is increased heat generation. To try and compensate for this, the suit has a cooling mount that has a pair of heat sinks that alternate to one another, with a central Doppler cooling bank to chill the reactors, and manual venting ports should that fail. The suit packs a pair of high-power thrusters that allows it to move with surprising speed, closing that distance a little bit easier.

Dynast is manufactured by Beweglichkeitsrüstungsysteme, like it's predecessor, and brings with it the level of finish and build quality that only BWS can provide. Dynast suits are combat operable out of the box, and require little in terms of adjustment or acclimatisation.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Enforcer[]

2821973-web preview
"Imbrium Machine Complex is proud to unveil the Enforcer, designed for the most specialist defence operations, the Enforcer can go for long periods without support or relief, allowing operators to continue for long periods without fear of being compromised or worn down"
―IMC Marketing material

The Enforcer is an armour pattern designed by Imbrium Machine Complex for use with the Office of Naval Intelligence, issued to high level, augmented, internal security to protect vital structures and facilities. As such, it is designed to have higher mobility than similar models, responding to emergencies faster, while carrying expanded sensors alongside anti-jammer hardware and anti-intrusion software. The suit includes new hardware that enhances VISR functions, allowing operators to infiltrate and co-opt local networks, allowing operators enhanced target traction and counter-surveillance capabilities. The Enforcer has more balanced armour than its main rivals, and also has a variety of electronic countermeasures, geared to preventing espionage and catching or eliminating interlopers. The armour is more geared towards agility than it is on longevity, as such it works fine for short fire fights, but will quickly break down under prolonged conflicts. It has less redundancies than most other armour patterns, but is light on maintenance. The twin reactor packs are actually slaved to one another, rather than independent like most reactors. As such, their performance remains smooth and matches one another, creating extremely high performance, and enhanced power output, at the cost of both reactors being vulnerable to one being damaged.

Other features include a new cyloptic sensor on the helmet, slung above the visor, external sensor modules positioned on the chest, antennae on the back for accurate triangulation and power packs and high efficiency heat exchange systems. The cyloptic sensor uses a high power 3D camera, that can switch from full-colour electroptical to computer assisted thermal, and updates constantly to the War Net, allowing information to be quickly reviewed by commanding officers and intelligence experts, as well as management A.I.s.

The suits are most commonly used by ONI for force protection of delicate sites, perfect for quick reaction and counter-intrusion operations. Some suits have also been requisitioned by combat units in the Spartan Corps for sensitive operations.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Engineer[]

2821974-web preview
"So the sapper from the triple eight looks at this power conduit for twenty minutes, trying to figure out a weak point to blow it to hell, and knock out power to that Remnant fortress over the hill. This Spartan in this fancy suit just walks in, takes one look at it and within five minutes has cut his way through the plating to the inner machine and planted a charge."
―Anonymous UNSC Soldier

The Engineer variant is a specialised armour tailor made for combat engineers during a variety of operations. It facilitates subversion, repair and reconstitution of a wide range of technology, including Human, Covenant, Forerunner and more. It has a number of built in tools for the job, meaning the operator doesn't need to carry an independent tool kit, and its central systems carry a wide range of specialised software and sensors, allowing it to observe, analyse and disseminate information to friendly units.

While this unit can sabotage, repair or indeed, rebuild whatever it may come across with ease, its greatest power is the ability to record new pieces of technology it has investigated and feed back data on it, allowing SPARTANS in the field to gather intelligence on technology without bringing in working copies, or getting close. Fitted in the helmet is a microframe that can house multiple AI shards running concurrently with one another. These can take brief and limited remote control of the limbs and suit controls for delicate engineering work, too refined and precise for human hands. These microframes have also been used as a test-bed for networked subsystems that are designed to seize enemy networks, take enemy command protocols, and hack through hardware system locks. The helmet is usually fitted with a high strength ballistic visor, intended to protect it, while using external microcameras for feed back, though this can be removed.

The rest of the armour utilises moderate to high levels of plating for high-end levels of protection. The armour's precise sensors allow it to map objects internally, with amazing details, and record the results, in addition to also function as a spectrometer. For creating tools, such as blow torches, magnetic wrenches, screw drivers and drills, it uses generated plasma projections to generate these tools, similar to solid state shielding. To do this, the gauntlets have very finely tuned magnetic emitters, and have a preprogrammed range of tools, with hundreds of different tools and variations. It also features two of the largest fusion packs every installed on a MJOLNIR unit, intended to power the suits various functions simultaneously. The exotic Engineer variant was initially developed by the Materials Group, but late stage development, design and manufacturing was done by Lethbridge Industrial.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Explosive Ordnance Disposal[]

H4 MJOLNIR EOD
"We we're bunkered down, between two cars, looking down the street to the car bomb. Nobody wanted to go to that thing, and then this Spartan just strolls out, all casual. Bomb still detonated, but then that Spartan came walking right back. Sure, his armour looked a little charred, but all his limbs were still attached. That was some fine armour..."
―Anonymous Marine

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal armour is a unique pattern designed for combat engineers who may encounter discarded explosives, or terrorist munitions. As such, its designed to protect against close-range explosions. Its utilised by Spartan Combat Engineers when they're expecting to encounter enemy explosives. The suit is equipped to deal with unexploded ordnance, mines, improvised explosive devices, and many more kinds of explosives.

Every part of the armour has been meticulously designed to protect the operator from harm, even against high-yield shrapnel explosives. The Helmet is designed to channel the pressure wave around the user's head, significantly reducing the likelihood of decapitation and features a almost solid titanium-AEGIS 'cage' to provide maximum protection, with the small visor section being the only possible weak spot, the joints on the armour have significantly increased protection and the armour has been designed specifically to reduce the number of grabbing edges on the armour, decreasing the likelihood of dismemberment. It has been designed specifically to protect Spartans during operations involving the handling of explosive ordnance by channelling the explosion away from them. The gauntlets were redesigned with triple piece ceramic plating to give them a ultra-agile ceramic gauntlet to protect their hands and digits from damage.

The armour features an expanded sensor system that can detect potential explosives, booby traps and IEDs, along with an ARGUS sensor. This sensor uses a micro laser spectrometer, and can detect chemical trails left by explosives. IT can compare these to an online database, or local stored database, to determine composition and explosive type, and can update the database. In tandem with this, it has a deep-penetrating RADAR and x-ray sensor that allows it to map the internal components of an explosive device. It also features an external CBRN (Chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear) filter for protection against potential threats installed within explosive devices, such as chemical or biological weapons, or dirty bombs.

It features twin ruggedized reactor packs, shielded against penetration by extremely heavy armour. This prevents them being damaged in the event of an explosion. These reactors feature-tried and tested technology, and uses a reinforced heat-exchanger that can survive the explosion.

The armour is developed and manufactured by the Materials Group, and deployed with Spartan forward teams during operations where they're expected to encounter explosives.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Extra Vehicular Activity[]

2821972-web preview
"In space, nobody can hear you kick ass!"
―SPARTAN instructor

The EVA Variant is designed for deep space actions with improvements to exoatmospheric endurance and mobility without the use of thrusters. The armour feature several improvements over previous generations, including extended oxygen tanks providing up to 120 minutes of oxygen, self sealing oxygen tanks, robust life support systems, improved joint armour, self-sealing armour layers to protect against catastrophic armour breaches, and micro-gravity packs that allow the user to orient themselves in space, even without a thrust pack. It features some reinforced environmental layers, designed to protect the operator from the rigours of microgravity and the hazards of deep-space radiation. The safety features are ever evolving, improving its protective qualities for deep space operations.

The helmet features a large, wide view visor, intended for unimpeded view without moving their head. This visor is made of layers of steel-hard materials, creating a highly resistant visor almost as tough as the rest of the armour. For deep space operation, it's sensors are specialised towards distance and void functionality, relying on thermal-based motion sensors, magnetic impulse detectors, RADAR and LIDAR. It is used almost exclusively for Extra Vehicular Operations, usually on missions that require substantial time in space.

Though developed internally at the Materials Group, manufacturing has shifted over to Acheron Security.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Fallschirmjäger[]

2822074-web preview
"Re-engineered for light weight, high speed and high altitude missions, the Para variant is designed to allow special forces Operators to quietly get anywhere with their MJOLNIR."
―NCC marketing release

The MJOLNIR Fallschirmjäger, more commonly known as the FJ, AA or PARA variant, is a lightweight, high endurance armour designed for specialised airborne operations. It has reduced weight though protection isn't fully compromised, neither is the electronics suites. The armour is mostly focused on the breastplate, and is lightened and streamlined elsewhere. The helmet features a large visor, giving unimpeded view during drops.

The armour was designed to be deployed when the SPARTANS have to preform airborne insertions, where the reduced weight is a necessity. The reduced weight also lends to increased endurance, allowing SPARTANS to operate for much longer. The motor system features redundancies, pressure overrides and increased stores of hydrostatic gel, allowing users to survive falls should their descent gear fail. While its relatively conservative with electronics, it features a long range communications system, allowing it to remain in contact with low to high orbit starships. It also has a satellite imaging system, allowing it to allocate targets detected by overhead satellites in real time. In order to reach the dropzone undetected, it is coated is a special meta-material to mask the armour's thermal and ultra-violet signature.

The communication features makes it popular for squad leaders, allowing them to remain in contact with commanding officers over extreme range. The armour is also popular with Delta-Six operators, who use it to quietly infiltrate an area before delivering a killing blow. While used for Spartans for orbital drops, it is also used by elite units with the Orbital Drop Shock Troopers. The Para variant is developed and manufactured by Naphtali Contractor Corporation.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Fenrir[]

"Who's afraid of the big bad wolf?"
―Spartan Tobias Keller

A specialist variant, the Fenrir utilises a battle-management AI to coordinate a Spartans combat direction. The AI has been described as equally efficient, responsive, and blood thirsty, making an ideal battlefield companion. A monster in close-quarters, the suit is rightly feared by the Covenant, who have nicknamed wearers "Balkh'ragh", or the demon's hound.

The Fenrir armour focus on on close quarters, so heavy-duty plating and resilience take precedence. The armour uses titanium reinforced by titanium carbide bands, and dual layers of ceramic tiles, overlapping to reduce weak points. The heavy nature of the plating is offset by it's extreme focus, leaving some areas with less defence than others, and protection emphasised on certain areas, especially vulnerable points. This also improves mobility, meaning the user is free for advanced manoeuvres in close quarters. The armour features a raised gorget, and layered chest plates, accentuated by all encompassing armour on the legs, and plating on the shoulders.

The helmet features heavy slanted armour, with a sensor cluster on the forehead that provides accurate combat data, linked to back to the visor systems. The helmet features a precision camera for target identification, allowing the AI to prioritise.

The suit features an advanced AI, that controls the battle management systems of the suit. The AI prioritises targets, and cues targeting solutions and combat manoeuvres, directing the operator to the most efficient means of downing their foe. These combat methods are efficient, but not always the cleanest, often directing the operators to bloody kill manoeuvres. The AI is extremely responsive, constantly adjusting to changing conditions, and adjusting its protocols swiftly. However, the downside to this AI, aside from the blood thirsty nature, is the production of unknown scrapcode that does not conform to any known programming language. These seem harmless, but are under constant scrutiny to ensure they are nothing to be concerned about.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Foehammer[]

"Building a suit for flying is one thing. But building a suit for flying, and then surviving high-orbit bail out. That's impressive."
―Spartan Malik

A cutting-edge MJOLNIR suit designed for Spartan aircrew, the Foehammer suit is as home on the ground as it is in a dropship. Using highly-experimental technology, it allows for greater interoperability with aircraft, and is especially tailored for use with the MD-78A1 Osprey.

The Foehammer features lightened armour, with a trim design, ideal for movement inside cramp ships. The shoulders are flattened to the body, as are the chest plate, and back plate, allowing for it to be comfortable to use for long periods in the pilot's seat. The helmet features armour centred around the fore head, protecting the delicate sensors and electronics used by the armour. The armour also features a robust environmental layer, protecting against intense heat, intense cold, and high-radiation. The pressure layer is designed to adjust pressure control, simultaneously allowing it to survive the rigours of sudden de-pressurization, and adjust to g-force like a flight suit.

The suit features the full host of electronics and sensors one would expect with a MJOLNIR armour system but improves upon this with the inclusion of flgiht systems, including a heads up display, visual cuing system, panoramic night vision, weapon integration, head and iris tracking for weapon mounts, and the ability to fire off-bore sight. However, it's greatest feature is the ultra-wideband cyberlink installed in the helmet, which is designed to increase pilot-vehicle synchronisation. It does this by inducing whole-body paralysis, with the pilot's focus over to the vehicle. This allows the pilot to fly-by thought, making the vehicle more responsive than it would through analogue controls. The body is kept alert with induced muscle spasms, so the pilot doesn't fall to cramping.

The twin reactor packs are compact and relatively simple, with agreeable power levels to keep the suit functioning with ease. These are ideal for performance in and out of the ship. The suit is fitted with improved thruster assemblies, ideal for high-altitude ditches.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Freebooter[]

"BRS continues to astound. A close combat, deep-space specced armour that is near-undetectable and built like a tank. Perfect for cracking open Covvie ships!"
―Anonymous Headhunter

The Freebooter is a highly-advanced armour pattern devised for aggressive EVA actions, particularly pertaining to a focus on stealth features. The Freebooter mixes advanced armour features, a meticulously engineered design, and exotic stealth technologies, to create one of the more deadly suits available to Spartans. The suit is highly prized for its high performance, and high tolerance.

The armour is designed to be extraordinary streamlined, with any extraneous components cut or reduced. This creates a sleek profile, and enhances the suit's agility, allowing operators a full range of motion. The armour plating is focused across the chest with seamless interlocking plates. The armour is created from nanofabricated materials, a technology previously used by the Covenant. Though the source of this is unknown, it is guessed that it is traded from the Sangheili. The helmet features a wide, EVA style visor, allowing for a wide view. The armour is also treated for deep-space operations, with all the protection expected for it, including high temperature deviances, and radiation shielding.

The armour is constructed with stealth in design, with hard angles to deflect sensors and reduce it's profile. To further fool sensors, it has thermal and ultra-violet baffles, and in-built counter-sensor systems, that autonomously feed back false signals to make it look as if nothing is there at all. It features acute sensors, designed for the difficulties of star-ship combat. These use acute sensors, with a high-refresh rate for improved awareness. These sensors are also great for mapping labyrinthine structures. It features a sensor band across the helmet, that functions as an anti-personnel sensor, and a mapping tool, giving high accuracy for the operator. The suit features a number of thrusters, and two main thruster units for quick and speedy acceleration in space. They use baffles to mask the thruster output, making it near-undetectable, even at high performance.

The suit uses free-standing reactor pods, separate from the body of the armour itself. These reactor pods are contained in actuated pods, that can split open to quickly vent excess heat. The reactors themselves using moving containment magnets as part of the generator, to create a more stable reactor that can be quickly coaxed into generating more power by putting the magnetic field under more pressure.

The suit is manufactured by Beweglichkeitsrüstungsysteme, and in keeping, features the most cutting edge fighting technology available to the UNSC.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Gargoyle[]

Ajax 013: "So how goes the game of tag?"
Kelly-087: "Well so far, Mel is 84 to 1. Fred hasn't found her yet. She's disguised herself as a car, a cardboard box, a bush, a rock, a pillar, a statue, a trash receptacle, a vending machine.."
―Ajax and Kelly discuss the 'field testing' of the Gargoyle variant[src]

The Gargoyle is a experimental armour platform designed to test new camouflage technology, intended to be a infallible alternative to existing active camouflage technology. The Gargoyle uses a blend of technologies to create camouflage real enough to fool even the most invasive of sensors.

The Gargoyle's camo system uses technology pioneered by the War Game simulators utilised by the UNSC for training. Using holography and hard light fields, the armour can take on the appearance of, well, anything. The camouflage field can change appearance to match objects of different sizes, such as statues, boxes, even stationary vehicles, and can match the texture. This allows Spartan operators camouflage themselves as anything, even the namesake of the armour. The holography field is detailed enough to fool sight, touch and detailed sensor scans. In order to run it, almost all of it's hardware is dedicated to programming the hologram, keeping a catalogue of hundreds of thousands of items and textures, and take external input such as 3D scans of an object in the field.

To compensate for the design, the armour features a multi-layered muscle system, allowing the user to remain comfortable in whatever awkward position they've set themselves in, with the armour supporting their body, then immediately switching back to amplifying it as a suit. The Gargoyle also has to compensate with powerful power packs, in order to keep the holography fields powered, however they are efficient once the hologram is established, and can even maintain large decoys for days. [2]

The Gargoyle is manufactured by Emerson Tactical Systems, and distributed to Spartan forces on a case-by-case basis.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Goblin[]

"Mischievous little bugger, eh? None of our perimeter sensors even got him"
―NCA guard

The Goblin is a stealth-variant MJOLNIR variant, deployed for forward stealth operations. Sleek, svelte, and built with only stealth in mind, the Goblin is the absolute edge in light-weight stealth operations. Utilised as a counter-electronic warfare suit, its advance electronics, and specialised ergonomics, make it one of the deadliest suits available.

The armour is extraordinarily light-weight, designed for light weight action, and high agility. The armour is raised up from the body, creating a high centre of gravity, making it excellent for high-speed manoeuvres. The helmet features a wide visor and a layered plating. The armour is treated in next-gen metamaterials, that absorbs and disperses a range of electromagnetic waves, making it invisible to RADAR and motion sensors. The armour has baffles along the outer edges that distorts it's thermal silhouette, making it more difficult to pick up at range. This sensor warping technology was not initially included on early production models, but was included in later models, and was retrofitted to older models.

The armour is fitted with new systems designed to protect Spartan units from electronic or cyber attacks, both on and off the field of battle. Instead of the standard computer computer utilised by most MJOLNIR variants, it instead as two, the first being an all-purpose computer for storing data, transmitting information and coordinating the armour. The second computer is made of several distributed modules scattered through the armour, using ruggedized liquid state electronics. The computer uses an advance self-learning neural computer, capable of rapidly adapting to a variety of situations, and running several thousand high-end processes in parallel. Its advanced enough to make most super computers blush. The core of this computer is it's counter-cyberwarfare package. It is preprogrammed with counter-intrusion protocols, designed to block any attempts to attack it, or a networked computer, and viciously strike back. It is protected by sophisticated firewalls, to prevent it easily being hacked.

For protection against electronic attacks, such as jamming, radio interception, and signal, the computer switches to engaging the enemy through one of its two long distance antennae. The first antennae encircles the armour, and has a wide broadcast range, and the secondary is an extending antennae on the back, which has a longer distance. These both function as a receiver and transmitter. Using these antennae, it can perform wide area jamming, to prevent an enemy from committing an attack. It can link into the War Net to encrypt transmissions, using the networked units to continually modulate the encryption.

The twin reactor packs are two of the smallest fitted to a MJOLNIR suit. They are sunk into the armour, reducing out-board space. These lightweight reactors include a shroud that masks their emissions, allowing the suit to operator without risking it's stealth features.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Grenadier[]

Rev Grenadier
"So we have the .50 cal pinning those Spartans down, we had them! Then this big guy gets up, and just walks towards us, firing his machine gun from the hip. Those .50 AP rounds are just bouncing off him, and he's busy raking the entire position. We weren't paid enough to fight walking tanks..."
―Anonymous Mercenary

The Grenadier variant is a specialised MJOLNIR variant used usually by heavy weapons experts or point men expecting heavy resistance, or even engineer specialist when they will be exposed to enemy fire during their duties. The armour's chest, shoulder, knees, helmet, pauldrons, gauntlets, greaves and thigh armour are heavily reinforced against directed impacts, energy weapons and even resistant to explosive weapons. Armour is 2-3 times thicker than the armour found on regular MJOLNIR variants and is reinforced with heavy-duty layers of metal alloys, designed to significantly improve protection, while increasing weight and providing increased structural rigidity. The heavily slanted form of the armour provides increased protection and defence against munitions. It also features a gorget protecting the next and raised armour sections protecting the sides and rear of the head, heavily armoured helmet with low impact reinforced visor and an all-encompassing pauldron, protecting the entire shoulder joint against heavy duty munitions. The armour plating is actually tougher than that found on some medium vehicles.

The Grenadier is fitted with four Mk. XXIII DARIUS Plasma-Fusion Reactors. Larger and more powerful than the Mk. XXI CAESER powerpacks regularly fitted to MJOLNIR units, the new reactors give the Grenadier more powerful shielding, typically associated with top-ranked Sangheili commanders, or small armoured vehicles. This lends to its incredible resilience, allowing it to shrug off anti-armour munitions. Both reactors are protected by sophisticated heat-exchange systems, using doppler cooling banks to keep them within optimum temperature, keeping them cool during high level operations and heating them should drops in temperature begin to effect performance.

To counter-act the increased weight, the armour is fitted with an enhanced motor system that has increased strength over regular MJOLNIR variants, while maintaining similar speed and reaction times. While other, newer variants, boast 'enhanced armour', and usually do have this feature, they are no comparison for the amount of extra armour the Grenadier possess. The Grenadier Variant is manufactured by Chalybs Defence Solutions at the behest of the Materials Group.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Gungnir[]

2821975-web preview
"Designed in parallel to the Spartan LASER weapon, it was designed as a MJOLNIR platform capable of utilising the weapon to its fullest capabilities. As such, it has advanced sensor and acquisition systems, capable of acquiring and tracking targets to huge ranges and as such, is capable of interfacing with a variety of other weapon systems for long distance anti-armour/anti-personnel duties."
―Hannibal Weapon Systems marketing material

The GUNGNIR variant is a specialised MJOLNIR variant usually issued to special weapon units engaged actively in counter-armour/counter-aircraft warfare or as specialised snipers. The unit consists of an entirely new electronics suite for accurate acquisition, diagnostic and engagement of enemy armour, airborne assets or infantry at extended large distances, making use of a sub-network of embedded micro cameras, a single long range optical/passive infra-red/night vision capable camera and a flat pane AESA RADAR designed to track specific targets at long ranges. The cuirasse features impressive 360 degree protection, with sloped frontal plating, rounded protection elsewhere and overlapping spinal plating and low impact, slim line glacis plating on the pauldrons, with heavy duty AEGIS tile inserts. This was implemented in response to the GUNGNIR's predicted anti-armour role. The armour features two high-end power packs, larger than typical MJOLNIR power packs, with improved protection. The armour unit can actively identify targets at long ranges without the use of additional visual systems and engage them effortlessly. It can be augmented with an additional eye tracking night vision/passive infra-red capable camera for increased panoramic viewing to replace the decreased POV.

The armour is used by weapon specialists dealing with anti-tank weaponry or snipers, when stealth is not the number one priority. Initially designed to support the W/AV M6B G/GNR, it works with a number of other weapons to great effect. Hannibal Weapon Systems manufactures the majority of the GUNGNIR suit, though the Materials Group manufacture a select few components, and maintain development of the variant.

"Tarasque was one of the most uninhabitable planets you could imagine. High pressure, corrosive atmosphere, acid rain, lingering background radiation just high enough to kill you. Who knows why the Covenant set down a base on there, and much less why the UNSC sent a team in there. But those Spartans went down, then came back in one peace. Not even a little bit melted!"
―Anonymous Navy Officer

The Hazardous Operations armour is designed for going into situations where other MJOLNIR units simply wouldn't survive. It is designed to survive worlds with crushing pressure, acidic atmospheres, extreme temperatures, high radioactivity and unbreathable conditions, and can be updated or modified to survive other environments.

The armour is tested to survive temperatures from 700 to minus 240 Celsius, which allows it to survive worlds of extreme volcanism, where lava is a regular and dangerous hazard, worlds extremely close to their local sun with intensely hot conditions, or worlds so distant they barely see the sun, or with exotic cryovolcanic effects. The armour is rated for pressure of 120 MPa, allowing users to survive on worlds of intensely high pressure, and dive to deep water areas without fear of being crushed, all the while the armour's interior systems adapt to the pressure to prevent the user from getting decompression sickness, regardless of ascent or descent speed. All components used on the armour are corrosion free, and can resist extremely acidic conditions, allowing the user to deploy to a world that is so hostile the atmosphere would begin to melt through the exterior armour of regular MJOLNIR units. Its radioactive shielding is also shored up, allowing the user to survive radioactive conditions that would otherwise irradiate normal MJOLNIR users.

The on-board air filtration unit is extremely complex, with nanotechnological systems that constant renew the filters and act as secondary filters themselves, allowing the user to breath in near inhospitable atmospheres, such as those mentioned previously. In support of this, the armour also has a larger internal air supply, that can be fed with specialised mixes for differing environments. The internal, environmental control layer is extremely beefed up, in order to protect the Spartans from the environment around them, regulating internal temperature and pressure so as to protect the user at all times. The armour does all of this without sacrificing protection or mobility, actually increasing many of the armour elements, but does suffer in other respects. It has little to no stealth capability, and nanofibre camouflage must be reapplied as most environments simply destroy it, external gear and weapons often don't survive as well as the armour, and external sensors are cut to a minimum, to reduce components that could potentially break in any condition. This gives it a lack of flexibility in the field, compared to other variants, but allow it to survive conditions so hostile most other variants fail.

Its power packs feature an unusual triple cooling system, with three cooling systems supporting a single fusion reactor. This keeps it cool in almost any environment, since a build up of heat, combined with high external temperature, could result in a fatal meltdown.

Developed internally at the Materials Group, manufacturing has been picked up by Acheron security to keep up with demand.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Helioskrill[]

Helioskrill
"A show of allegiance between our people. Your best, armoured by our best."
―High Councillor Farl 'Vadum

The Helioskrill is an exotic armour pattern developed in partnership between Kolaar Manufactorum and Hannibal Weapon Systems, with much of the design concocted by a prodigious Sangheili armourer. The armour is considered a lethal suit by those lucky enough to gain one.

The design takes cues from classical and modern Sangheili designs, an parts of it appear purely aesthetic, but this belies the efficiency of the design. The sleek, curved armour is ideal for deflecting munitions, allowing the armour to be thinner and lighter without compromising protection, and to shore up defences in vital points, it uses overlapping plates. The twin fusion packs use Sangheili technology, with a plasma generating reactor that uses a constantly shifting system of cooling banks to keep the fusion reactors chilled, even during the use of it's most energy intensive system.

The armour is relatively sparse on advanced hardware and software, though it does include a few creature comforts, such as acute sensor networks, phased variance visor and climbing pitons. However, its most important feature is the reworked motor system. It uses proprietary technology to generate precise and long lasting electrical fields around the intricate capillary system, allowing sudden bursts of motion not possible in other armour variants. A Spartan can go from a seemingly sitting, relaxed position to a combat stance in a fraction of a second using this, allowing them to burst into activity. This is modelled on the Helioskrill fighting stance, where a Sangheili warrior appears to be resting, but can spring to action in the blink of an eye. This armour mode takes training to become accustomed to, and consumes a significant amount of the power supply, but makes operators excel at ambush tactics. The suit's neural interface has also been totally reverse engineered, such was the skill of the armourer.

The primary armour components, shield emitters, sensorium and reactor packs are hand built by expert armoursmiths at Kolaar Manufactorum, while the still classified motor system and electronics are built by HWS, who oversee final assembly. Many users remark on the excellent build quality and craftsmanship of the armour, compared to the more common mass produced variants.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Hellcat[]

Spartan Max Staedler: "There's something not quite right about it, like a shiver down your spine when you wear it"
Elise-070: "Weird, fits me like a glove."
―Spartan Staedler and 070 discuss the peculiarities of the Hellcat[src]

Tests with Spartan-II veterans show near-perfect synchronization with HELLCAT armor, but compatible Spartan-IV operators require an acclimatization period and tweaks to their augmentation maintenance before deployment.

Armor: Built of knowledge stolen from enigmatic ruins on a dead world and materials stripped from the vault of a shattered starship, the HELLCAT is both utterly alien and strangely familiar.

Made from material remarkable similar to, but strong that, titaniuma3. Overlapping plates, very aggressive protection and offensive styling. No actual visual sensors, uses augmented reactor and lines of 'bugeye' style sensors. Freestanding reactors linked to an exotic cooling system

Equal parts alien and familiar, the Hellcat is an exotic armour pattern that uses salvaged materials and schematics from dead worlds. A high tech suit, much of its technology is highly experimental, and some of it not yet fully understood. The suit is seeing growing deployment against Forerunner automatons, due to its higher-than average protection against their weaponry.

The Hellcat is clad in an exotic material, stripped from the wreckage of millennia old starships. The material is remarkably similar to titanium-A3, though it differs on a chemical level, with differences to it's crystalline structure that make it stronger, without increasing weight or flexibility. The armour is designed along ancient patterns, with overlapping plates, focused on protecting the user without compromising agility. The overlapping plates shift freely without locking. The armour features high shoulder and collar guards, sleek plates across the arms and legs, and a wedge shaped helmet that protects against incoming munitions thanks to its design. The armour overall is extremely aggressive in terms of protection, and is styled for offensive actions.

The armour teams tried and true short-range sensors, such as triplex motion sensors, and RADAR sensors. It also teams this with a pinpoint magnetic sensor, tuned to detect fusion reactors usually seen in armour, rather than any other sources. The helmet has no visor, and instead uses 4 sensor striples. These use clusters of microcameras, arranged like the eyes of a bug giving fantastic acuity and depth perception. These can switch effortlessly through optical, thermal, or x-ray vision. The Hellcat neural interface demonstrates near-perfect synchronization with Spartan-II operators, but Spartan-IV operators require length acclimatization periods and tweaks to their augmentation before the suit responds properly.

The reactor packs are freestanding, attached to the upper back, leaving the lower portion free standing. The reactor packs are augmented with components salvaged from wrecks, that improve performance overall by injecting a beam of plasma directly into the core, creating a plasma-injected fusion reactor, with performance matched by few modern designs. This comes at the cost of increased heat generation. To compensate, the armour uses a cooling manifold, using an array of electromagnets that create polarising fields that strip external heat and convert it to power. The downside is that the cooling system is perhaps the most maintenance-intensive component.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Hoplite[]

"They thought about replacing SPI with this. Imagine the damage the IIIs coulda done with this just a few years earlier?"
―SCPO Franklin Mendez

The Hoplite armour is a pattern manufactured by ONI's secretive Watershed Division. Originally designed as a low-cost MJOLNIR variant, and possible replacement for the SPI armour used by the Spartan-III program, it has since entered wide-spread distribution as a simple and robust combat armour, cheaper to build and maintain than other MJOLNIR units, but still featuring many bells and whistles.

The armour is robust, with layers of heavy plating and pressure moulded ceramic inserts, capable of warding off most munitions. The fusion reactors are buried into the shoulders, rather than protruding, protecting them from harm. These reactors have startling fuel efficiency, extending the use of the armour for long periods of time, however the reactors are slow to ramp up energy output, meaning it can respond sluggishly under ambush or sudden changes, though most operators mitigate this by increasing energy output before entering combat or going on patrol.

The armour has a surprisingly advanced battery of targeting sensors and interlinked data networks. These advancements create a sophisticated targeting system, that allow extreme precision, especially tailored for heavy ordnance. The sensors key in to one another to predict weather effects, ambient temperature, planetary curvature, distance, cover and shielding, to help its user make the most accurate and lethal shot, going so far as to control fusing and penetration. This makes it ideal for operators using heavy weaponry, such as rockets, missiles and grenades.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Hunter[]

H5G-Render-Locke-fullbody
"ONI likes these sorta variants. Tracking capabilities, enhanced sensors, stealth profile. And yet, the entire thing is optimized to opponents of similar skill and equipment. The rumours are probably true then, ONI is devising technology and tactics to hunt Spartans."
―Fred-104

A unique armour model, the Hunter combines stealth capabilities, hardened systems and sophisticated software upgrades. The Hunter has the standard battery of stealth upgrades, including a sensor resistant design, radar absorbent coating and emissions control, but also includes a unique anti-sensor system. This uses the shield emitters to modulate the shielding to constantly to adapt to enemy sensors frequencies, effectively rendering it sensor invisible as long as it keeps adapting.

The armour is fitted with newer-generation environmental systems, making it perfect for long term survival in harsh environments, all the while maintaining stealth capabilities. It is capable of maintaining a comfortable internal temperature, while keeping the armour at background temperature level, to improve its stealth profile.

Lastly, to achieve the 'Hunter' moniker, it is fitted with a battery of sensor and software upgrades, to improve its tracking capabilities. It's software upgrades improve visual tracking and sensor analysis capabilities, being capable of cross-correlation between multiple sensors to provide a full spectrum analysis of a target. With a high speed datalink, it can link to the UNSC WarNet and perform mass upload or downloads to improve its analysis. It is also fitted with with a new sensor upgrade, using two specially tailored ARGUS sensors mounted laterally along the helmet. These are capable of tracking pheromone and smell trails, and it can analyse them to track materials involved. Thanks to the fact it has two mounted either side of the helmet, it has directional tracking. While still considered a prototype, the sensors installed on it increase situational awareness and threat detection.

The armour itself is streamlined and lightened, and features little in terms of superfluous elements. The twin reactor packs feature staggered cooling systems that use multiple banks of cooling lasers to keep the reactors cooled, keeping them chilled even as they increase in energy production. These reactors are cutting edge, and extremely efficient, especially for maintaining stealth systems. The reactors are contained in a free floating sheath of plasma that reduces EM signatures. The armour uses next-gen materials and nano-fabrication to increase protective qualities and reducing weight. It's lightweight, flexible, and has an excellent centre of gravity.

The Hunter is used for target acquisition and tracking over short ranges. It's the preferred armour model for ONI field agents, and ONI kill-teams. Sometimes it finds its way into the hands of augmented personnel outside of the Spartan program. The Watershed Division designs and manufactures these models, each tailored to an operator.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Infiltrator[]

2821977-web preview
"The Infiltrator is an attempt to marry the technology behind the CQB and Scout. I say attempt, last month I manage to infiltrate a command centre and kill every officer in there without compromising my cloak. I'd say its pretty successful."
―Anonymous SPARTAN

The Infiltrator is a stealth pattern designed for more combat orientated focus, such as SPARTAN teams that are attempting to gain access to heavily fortified regions. While it has all the stealth enhancing capabilities of the Scout variant, such as increased stealth materials and sensor resistant design, it shares design cues with the close combat variants, with up-armoured design, partial visor, external microcameras in the place of a visor and increased combat orientated protection systems. As such, it mixes the best of both worlds, in a powerful, albeit expensive platform.

It is fitted with next-gen cyber warfare systems designed to quietly access restricted systems without compromising themselves. It carries onboard electronic and cyber warfare systems, preinstalled cyber intrusion protocols, as well as autonomous transmitters, to wirelessly assault enemy security systems, allowing the user to effortlessly infiltrate an area. To facilitate this, it has two external antennae. For evading detection, it uses sensor veiling countermeasures, keeping it's own sensors hidden from any prying eyes. Infiltrators can also be fitted with the optional ZILANT comm suite, which allows him to access ONI's private communication systems, including microsatellite and prowler uplinks.

The reactors feature a large heat exchange system, intended to keep the armour functioning at optimum capacity while engaging all of it's stealth systems and fighting in close quarters combat. However, it's slow to ramp down, meaning it can heat up quick for a fight, but it takes time for it to return to baseline.

While they can be difficult to requisition, Infiltrator suits are some of the most favoured for when Spartan teams have to quietly reach a target, then decimate it in close quarters combat, such as direct action, or sabotage missions. The Infiltrator was developed and manufactured by Hannibal Weapon Systems, though much of it was based on the designs of the Materials Group.

This guy just turned to us, with that freaky looking skull helmet. Next thing I know, both my legs are broken and they've got a snap restraint on my wrists."
―Anonymous Insurrectionist

The Locus is a stealth pattern designed by Lethbridge Industrial, optimised for maximising durability without compromising stealth features. Much of its components, such as the sensor packages and on-board systems are off the shelf components taken from the War Master, the most important feature is the newly designed helmet. The menacing, skull like helmet, features increased resilience, essentially being one, large, curved, heavily armoured plate, studded with microcameras to allow the user to see. The Locus also has plug in modules from the War Master in the helmet, with increased hardware for faster processing speeds, allowing users to gather and redistribute information at a startling rate. The Locus has a startling amount of resilience and durability in the field, with high armour and triple redundancies, and a menacing visage to boot, but still has all the stealth feature of contemporary design, such as sensor resistant shape, sensor invisible materials, and cloaked reactors. One of the most expensive stealth variants, the Locus is exotic and extra-ordinarily dangerous in all circumstances.

The LOCUS' passive cyberintrusion package and battlenet cache allows the user to stay aware of the strategic situation while remaining invisible to any hackers in the network. Armor description: Designed to provide an answer to threats arising during assaults on heavily defended tactical nodes, the grim visage of LOCUS armor is a common sight among Spartan boarding parties and special responses teams.

Components from the aviator, keeping down costs. Improved armour, improved performance, close quarters assault spec. Stealth and ecw as secondary specs.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Mako[]

"The Pirates had us all out on deck, on our knees, hands on our head, where they knew the satellite shadowing them could see us. I could hear them cocking guns, when there's the sound of something erupting from the water. These six goliaths, all decked out in armour spring from the water like flying fish! Things get hazy, but I'm pretty sure these frogmen tore those pirates to shreds."
―Anonymous sailor

The Mako variant is a specialised variant designed for aquatic operations ranging from deep water to close to shore operations. It was designed and manufactured by Hannibal Weapon Systems, utilising technologies to make it pressure resistant, being capable of diving to extreme depths while maintain armour integrity, and can survive extremely cold temperatures, usually associated with deep sea environs, but can also survive high temperatures, so as to survive underwater volcanic vents.

The armour is specially constructed and designed so as to resist prolonged exposure to underwater environments. As such, it is corrosion resistant, and delicate components are protected or reinforced, allowing it to remain in salt or fresh waters for long periods of time, or even waters with a high PH level. The armour also has reinforced pressure systems and temperature control, to protect the user regardless of depth and cold, and protect them from decompression sickness. It has a on-board, internally based aquatic adaptation system, which consists of an pair of artificial gills, using a refined version of the Bodner method to remove oxygen from water at a exceedingly high rate without producing vast amounts of waste materials or waste energy, ensuring stealth and safety in missions involving traversing deep water. Internal pressure controls, mixed with pressure controls of armour allow users to avoid decompression sickness. In support of this, it also has a on-board air supply, with increased supply, variable air mixes, and pressure control for differing circumstances.

The Armour cuts down on the external RADAR, instead packing high power lights intended to pierce murky depths, and a on-board SONAR system, with varying wavelength emitters and receivers, that can avoid jamming and act as a receiver for other sensors and underwater noises, such as vehicles. The hands and feet have variable surface controls, allowing them to adapt into flippers to allow for enhanced movement underwater. The last feature is a pair of water jets installed on the rear of the pack, allowing for high speed movement, without exposing themselves to enemy sensors, allowing the user to propel themselves at highspeed, underwater and on the surface, and can actually act as a limited jetpack like system, boosting them out of the water with 3 seconds of water in the internal reservoir. While regular MJOLNIR variants can operate underwater, and are fully buoyant, they can incur significant issues due to exposure to water, salt, beginning to lose functionality, such as sensor breakdown and other system failures, whereas the Mako can do this for hours.

The Mako are used by Spartans if they have to perform operations against deep water targets, or deploy in close to shore operations, such as special operations against water or close to water targets, infiltration of a location by waterways and spearheading amphibious landings.

Though offered as a complete GEN 2 Mjolnir system for the Spartan branch, adoption of the MAKO helmet by Army combat divers has proven to be more profitable. Armor Description: The MAKO meets UNSC requirements for multi-environment adaptation and has additional systems that allow it to excel in maritime environments.

Technically multi-environment. High powered lamp, camera on head. Streamlined for quick water use. Reactors slim and compressed to improve slim profile.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Operator Mod 1[]

"The Operator is devised as one of the most advanced electronic warfare systems available, being capable of broadcasting a secure transmission, anywhere, any time, regardless of conditions. When you need to communicate with that ship, behind that orbiting moon, to request them to get you out of a red hot landing zone, you'll be thankful somebody at Beta-5 commissioned the Operator variant"
―SPARTAN instructor

The MJOLNIR Operator variant is a specialised communications variant for use with reconnaissance units. The Operator variant shares much of the stealth technology with the Scout variant. It has enhanced capabilities for sending and receiving encrypted information, regardless of jamming or interception, and feeding this information to other units, or uploading data securely without fear of interception by the enemy. It can also gather substantial data itself from various radio wavelengths, various wavelengths of visible and non visible light and RADAR. Operator variants are often deployed at least once per Reconnaissance team to provide a constant connection to commanders, or occasionally with Scout-Sniper spotters for reporting back. The Operator was developed internally at Beta-5, and is manufactured by Chalybs Defence Solutions, though they now fulfil orders for other units, including the 117th.

While the non-Spartan members of the Asymmetrical Action Group wear their own standard-issue armor, the Beta-5 Division contracted Chalybs Defense Solutions to develop a MJOLNIR variant designed to improve the performance of the AAG's Spartan personnel. The armor, which was jointly developed at the Beta-5 Division Ordnance Testing Facility and at Chalybs' Testing Preserve, and was tested at the latter location,[note 1] can provide the wearer with detailed, on-the-fly intelligence through secure transmissions that can bypass most Covenant security networks.[1]

The standard version of the helmet features a B5D-O/Optics suite,[1] which is mounted on the forehead. The UA/HUL variant replaces the standard optics suite with an up-armor plate featuring a Hardened Uplink Module on the left side. Another variant, which is issued to unit commanders,[3] features Command Network Module-Improved on the right side.

The Operator systems's shoulder pauldrons are simply armored bands mounted on the user's base shoulder guards, with two string-like attachments descending from the bottom. There is a geometrical pattern emblazoned on the plate as well.

Tested in the NCC's abandoned shipyards on the outskirts of Abilene

OPERATOR visor plates include hyperspectral optical sensors, though the sensor fusion software that would tie that information into VISR has yet to be finalized. Armor description: OPERATOR armor has proven itself an adaptable combat ensemble in Spartan service, utilized by both pilots and force reconnaissance operatives.

―SPARTAN instructor

The Orbital armour is Naphtali Contractor Corporation's take on the EVA armour, but instead focused on survivability during boarding actions. By taking the basic architecture of the EVA and upgrading it with heavier armour, redundant systems and improved elections, it can take substantially increased abuse. It retains many features of the EVA, such as increased mobility in zero-gravity environments, stabilizers and extended oxygen reserves. To this end, it is fitted with braced generators and tow-grip isolation packs, giving it excellent stability without compromising agility. This is teamed with the new armour to create a incredibly resilient suit, ideal for short range, brutal, boarding and counter-boarding operations, or combat operations on skyhooks, orbital tethers and elevators. Increased armour features include a heavily reinforced blast shield with aggressively sloped shapes intended for increased protection, heavy duty, rounded pauldrons and high strength cuirasse with gorget. It features two high slung power packs with incredibly effective cooling systems.

The Buffalo A-29 comm suite in the ORBITAL helmet works flawlessly with the ad-hoc and anarchic telecommunication networks found in many colonies. "Prepare the battle space we told her. I told *RETRACTED* to just 'prepare' the battlespace. By the time the main force had arrived, she'd manage to sneak into their forward listening post, kill every single individual and take over the base. All without being discovered."
―Anonymous SPARTAN operator

The Pathfinder variant is a specialised stealth variant for long distance reconnaissance deep in enemy territory. The armour is designed to be highly resistant to most if not all forms of sensors, through a variety of materials applied to the skin of the armour, and counter-sensors installed in the unit, while also being capable of maintaining an uplink to friendly forces. As the name suggests, users go in first, to prepare the battlespace for a larger force. They can share data at a extreme rate, without giving away their position, allowing them to act, literally, as a drop beacon themselves. The armour is lightened and streamlined, with enhanced jamming capabilities built in, and can gather and relay information safely, allowing it to be used for first contact scenarios. It's twin, small scale power packs feature a unique twin cooling system, wherein it has two cooling systems, stacked on one another, with the first being used for low levesl of heat production, and the second kicking in for high levels of heat production, such as close combat, or electronic warfare. It also features anterior torque couplings, increased stabilisation units and heat tempered balance drives in the greaves, though these are often rendered unusable in the span of several days of combat. The PF variant is usually equipped on a single volunteer Stalker who will go in ahead of the main force to bring the rest in. The Pathfinder was developed by Imbrium Machine Complex based on experience earned manufacturing the Recon variant.

Dedicated expert systems or dedicated AI's can be housed in the PATHFINDER helmet for on-site analysis of signals intelligence. These are run in a separate virtual machine from the rest of the suit's systems for security reasons.

Body description: Already popular with Spartan force reconnaissance, PATHFINDER armor is now seeeing extensive use with tactical signals

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Pioneer[]

2821994-web preview
"Developed for the Navy's special exploration teams, the Pioneer represents the pinnacle of safety, and security, to protect those leading the way."
―Acheron Security press release

The Pioneer is an extremely specialised armour variant, that is used for the exploration and reconnaissance of hostile or unknown environments. Developed during the interbellum period, when Spartans were at a surplus and enemies to fight were in demand, UNSC Navy forces used several teams to reconnoitre, explore and map new worlds with potentially violent flora and fauna, as well as abandoned constructs, such as Forerunner structures. Augmented personnel were equipped with Pioneer and sent to support ONI expeditionary teams in the field, providing security and a forward element. The helmet and armour are designed with external hardware modules to map terrain, explore structures and link in to unmanned sensors and vehicles across huge distances. It has enhanced sensor packages, increased environmental systems for dealing with potentially hostile environments (though nowhere on the same scale as HAZOP) and autonomous electronic systems designed to tap into Forerunner or Covenant systems, enabling the Pioneer to breach these systems with ease, and ensure the safety of the user and their team. It has a sophisticated threat detection system, to enhance the situational awareness of the user, and track potential threats. It also features an unusual visor set up, supported by external microcameras, external environmental sensors on the cuirasse and moderate protection. The power packs utilises a novel cooling method, with both reactors sitting inside a cooling sheath. Once it requires venting, the external case opens up to vent heat directly from the heat sink. The Pioneer was developed by Acheron Security, at the behest of ONI.

The sensor fidelity and high-bandwidth storage capacity in the PIONEER helmet makes it ideal for detailed environment scans used in War Games and intelligence analysis scene reconstructions. The PIONEER is a reconnaissance and combat expedition Mjolnir variant, pairing advanced environmental sensors with Acheron's latest threat detection systems.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Protector[]

2821981-web preview
"The first in the Material's Group of experimental armour designed for defensive situations, the Protector represents enhanced protection in every way, and enhanced awareness. No Innie will ever sneak up on with this on."
―Spartan-IV instructor

The Protector is the Materials Group first prototype MJOLNIR unit designed for combat superiority during defensive operations against enemy forces, including anti-siege and anti-infiltration operations, replacing older third-party variants. The Protector, for its role as sentry, security and defender, has a greatly enhanced sensor system over regular MJOLNIR variants, with a longer ranged, triplex motion sensor, fitted with its own autonomous computer capable of heavy, in-depth analyse of motion sensor readouts to give as much information on targets as possible, more effective LIDAR and RADAR sensors, with greater range and accuracy, and a short ranged magnetic sensor, all of which are more resistant to interference and jamming. It has enhanced armour plating, intended for resistance against sustained fire with heavily slopped plating and high strength alloys and a heavily armoured face plate with embedded microcameras providing a verisimilitude augmented view of their surroundings. While intended for security missions, providing sentries for high level facilities and defending vital positions, the Protector has seen front line duty in patrols and as sentries and defending vital positions against incursion.

PROTECTOR armor uses an oversized power fusion pack, though production models throttle the output to standard levels. Body Description: Intended to be the first of a new line of "heavy" powered armor, procurement and design realities brought the PROTECTOR back to near-baseline standards.

"Every radio; dead, every TV; dead. We had no idea what was happening, then the helicopter's searchlight hits the antennae over the radio station. There's a figure, looks like some kinda monster, with horns and teeth, half way up, and then every single receiver, radio, TV, chatterpad and anything else that receives radio waves started blaring Flip music, at the highest volume. Bastard was just playing with us!"
―Anonymous Insurrectionist

The Raider, made by Imbrium Machine Complex, is a more unusual armour pattern. Starting out as IMC's answer to an 'improved CQB', the Raider is only marginally more expensive than the existing CQB variant, but has a host of unusual features, the most noticeable being its unusual design. It is designed after the Oni, a being from Japanese folklore, and this design is intended to weaken the morale of the opposition. The truth is, the fact a Spartan team is on the field is usually enough to do that, and most Spartans laugh at the prospect of an armour to inspire fear, after all they are already fear incarnate. What is not be laughed at, however, is its electronic features. Designed to not only wage war on the enemy's sense of fear, but also their psyche, the Raider is designed to conduct psychological operations, not just by shock and awe, but by electronic subterfuge, with an enhanced electronic warfare package, capable of tapping into civilian and military communication networks, such as radio, TV and the Extranet, and jamming them and broadcasting its own pirate signal over these networks, usually with a pre-recorded or streamed communique. In one famous instance, it was used to drown out all major information networks on a colony with terabytes of ExtraNet cat memes. The helmet's fearsome features hide the fact it carries significant protection, with a low impact visor and thick, slanted plates, as well as substantial pauldron protection. The curaisse features significantly reduced armour, keeping a balance of weight, with only lightly reduced protection. The reactors feature a unique scrubbing and heat dispersal system, with each reactor having a twin vent capable of expelling heat quickly, allowing it to maintain efficient activity.

RAIDER's shoulder-plating systems are standard, composite-folded shield negotiators with fused venting for reactive thrust application. Torso Description: Its chest-plating is full mesh ceramic with flow contours for dissipative shielding and other defensive countermeasures. Helmet Description: The exotically feral design of the RAIDER-class helmet, particularly when paired with the visible dissonance of the [REDACTED] skin, makes the armor perceptibly imposing to those who encounter it, even for some elements within the Covenant.

RAIDER-class armor has become the unofficial standard for Spartans assigned to military police duties.

RAIDER helmets were crafted to be physically intimidating, though its effectiveness is disputed

The neural interface controller in the RAIJIN helmet lacks the feedback filters and bandwidth caps required by UNSC MIL-STD specifications in order to maximize short-term combat performance. Body Description: The RAIJIN next-generation powered assault armor leverages the latest exoskeleton advances and Mjolnir BIOS extensions for a new breed of super-soldier serving corporate and government interests.

Short term performance. No thrills, decent armour, excellent performance, but maintenance can be a concern. Sensors are exclusively anti-personnel. Reactors fold out to vent at a 45 degree angle. 2821983-web preview
"Lethbridge Industrial is proud to showcase our newest design, the Ranger. We at Lethbridge have strived to design a armour more sufficient for heavy combat scenarios, without support from other operators."
―LI press release

The Ranger is a armour pattern designed and manufactured by Lethbridge Industrial. A surprisingly different design from the usual high-tech, highly exotic designs of Lethbridge Industrial, the Ranger focuses on superb design and resilience, rather than exotic systems. The Ranger is designed for heavy combat scenarios, and such such it features reinforced armour on the cuirasse, helmet, pauldron and power packs, as well as a small impact visor, for increased protection against fire, with many design cues from the War Master and locus. The Ranger's specialised infra-structure is designed with a number of advanced computers and overlapping sensory networks, giving the user excellent tactical awareness around themselves. The armour has an inbuilt threat detection system that monitors and tracks threats, allowing a Spartan to switch focus and multi-task during combat operations, even being able to take their eyes off a target, knowing the armour will continue to track them. The Ranger is versatile, and can be used for a variety of operations, but its strength lies in its ability to operate independently for protracted periods of times, making it appealing to operators in 'lone wolf' scenarios.

The RANGER helmet is utilitarian and well designed, though periodic issues with VISR compatibility bedevils maintenance technicians.

Lethbridge no longer manufactures GEN2 RANGER armor, though it has been very aggressive in monitoring existing examples and acquiring suits slated for disposal.

2821984-web preview
"IMC is proud to unveil the latest generation of specialised Reconnaissance armour for SOCOM, with the capability to fit interchangeable warfare pods, capable of dominating any spectrum, anywhere, any time."
―IMC marketing release

The Recon variant shares design cues with its predecessor, and builds upon information learned from combat deployment of previous iterations. The Recon variant has reduced weight, allowing for increased agility, making for an incredibly light weight, high speed variant that suffers slightly in terms of protection, but makes for an incredibly fast unit. The helmet features a thin line visor, with two sensor booms, carrying the external sensors. The helmet also carries a passive electronic sensor, allowing for undetectable observation, even deep behind enemy lines. For use in the field, the helmet carries the Auspex battlenet uplink, which utilises the latest counter-cyberintrusion and barrier software from ONI. Rather that utilise advanced materials, the Recon armour evades detection by reducing the number of sensor reflective surfaces, and reducing its external output of Cherenkov radiation, even during peak activity. The reactors are fitted with emission bafflers to mask them during activity. The Recon has also been fitted improved movement stabilizers and adjustable shield distribution channels to improve its capabilities. Rather than reduce the size or placement of the reactors, IMC elected to reduce them width, creating paper thin powerpacks, with an aggressively angled design so they have a reduced cross section at almost all angles.

While developed by the Materials Group, manufacturing has shifted over to Imbrium Machine Complex.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Recruit[]

2821985-web preview
"This is the first suit of MJOLNIR you will ever be issued. Simple? Yes. Deadly? Most certainly."
―Spartan instructor

The Recruit variant is a simplified variant of the existing MJOLNIR design, tailored for SPARTANS who are undergoing MJOLNIR certification and for their first period with their armour. It's electronic and armour architecture has been designed using decades of MJOLNIR combat experience, and its hardware features many off the shelf components. This greatly reduces maintenance requirements, weight and length of repair times, meaning it can be used reliably in the field for much longer than other variants. Other integral armour features include wide vision visor, gorget and heavier than normal armour, including heavy duty plating on the shoulders, forearms and legs. While simplistic the Recruit is used by many Spartans, even past their MJOLNIR certification, simply because of its simplicity and reliability. One it's interesting features is the staggered fusion reactor, using multiple chambers to allow the reactors to burn for longer, and burn harder, increasing or decreasing energy output seamlessly, without any impact on performance. This allows Spartans to use several energy intensive sub-systems at a time, without fear of outstripping their energy supply. The Recruit is manufactured by Hannibal Weapon System, and most of its development is split between HWS and Materials Group liaisons.

Decades of combat experience with Mjolnir suits informed the design and electronics hardware architecture of the RECRUIT helmet. Body Description: SPARTAN-IVs are required to use the RECRUIT-class armor until they demonstrate mastery over their many augmentations.

"The Rogue is a highly secretive development, originally one of the first generation, non-Materials Group developed and built variants, like the B, M and O variants, and remains one of the most sought after and unusual variants. When you see somebody in this, you know they're in this fight for the long haul"
―ONI Supervisor

The Rogue variant is a specialised unit, with an unusual goal. It is designed and built for Spartans who will operate independently of friendly forces and the chain of command for significant time, without the need for resupply. As such, its got expanded ports for additional reactor fuel, and increased ports for biochemical and medicinal implants, with improved trauma treatment systems and enhanced armour repair and upgrade subroutines in the nanotechnology control systems, meaning the armour can maintain current generation spec, with only brief connections to the War Net for patch downloads. It has enhanced network connectivity and sequentially delineated intelligence packs, which are vital for singular operators. The helmet features a large visor, with a incredibly resilient construction, giving unparalleled viewing without compromising on protection. The unique reactor modules are implanted within the rear of the armour, so they remain largely unobtrusive, with distinct cooling find protruding from the back. These fins contain the cooling and heat exchange systems, as well as the heat sinks and disperse excess heat outwards. The armour is optimized for individual operation in every way, making it one of the singular, most expensive MJOLNIR variants, with enhanced stealth capabilities, improvements to the sensor suite, expanded electronic warfare elements, increased personal protection without compromising agility and increased hardware and software components for gathering and storing larger concentrations of data. The Rogue was entirely developed and manufactured by Vestol Corporation, with aid from the Materials Group.

Unknown to most, ROGUE suits contain hardware cutouts that can remove or ignore several layers of safety interlocks and threat management limiters in the Mjolnir BIOS. Armor Description: ROGUE operators tend to be lone wolves, stalking the outskirts of the battlefield to cull enemy forces of the weak, the inattentive, and the incautious.

―Kelly-087 teaching a class of IVs

The Scout variant is one of the most wide-spread 'stealth' armour patterns, and the most versatile. It uses advanced materials, that while difficult to manufacture and expensive to produce, they provide unparalleled stealth capabilities. The newest generation features advanced anti-tracking and shroud-induction systems, but it also uses improved sensory and communication systems with emissions control, to mask it's presence. On top of that, it has two built in electronic warfare implements to improve SPARTAN mobility, in the form of a RADAR absorption system, which absorbs Radar signals and masks the SPARTAN and other UNSC units in the surrounding area, and a Motion Tracker Jammer which feeds motion trackers false signals through a variety of means and giving false, or zero returns. It is used, usually in conjunction with camouflage cloaks, for 'Stalker' Special Reconnaissance SPARTANS or Scout-Sniper SPARTANS, giving them a edge when in close proximity to enemy forces. The whole armour has been streamline, increasing agility and stealth capacity by reducing armour plating and fitting it with wide pauldrons, making up for the deficiencies in the cuirasse and masking the shoulder. It also carries twin reactors with a more compact size, without skimping on power supply or cooling. The Scout is manufactured by United Aerospace Systems, though it is developed and select components made by the Materials Group.

"Developed for support specialists in the field, the Soldier variant takes years of design experience and distils it down to a superb design. The result is an extremely fast, reliable and tough MJOLNIR variant that's proven so successful its being used by multiple units."
―Vestol Corporation ExtraNet description

The Soldier variant is a armour pattern, designed by the Materials Group at the request of Spartan teams for a tailor made MJOLNIR variant for support specialists. The armour takes the standard MJOLNIR design and technology, and augments it to match the new requirement. The helmet has been designed to greatly enhance protection, with a reduced visor profile, increasing protection for the user against gunfire and shrapnel. The armour has been streamlined elsewhere, focusing on close quarters protection, but cutting weight where possible, leaving it a trimmed down 'low fat' version of the standard variant, without compromising on protection. The cuirasse features a large glacis plate to make up for thin armour plating, intended to deflect munitions and increasing armour thickness without increasing weight. It also carries two low-impact reactors, the two smallest ones ever mounted on a MJOLNIR unit. As such, it has reduced hardware, fewer fuel ports, a smaller internal oxygen tank, less biomedical ports and several other utility features have been reduced in number or cut entirely. In return, the Soldier variant has increased hardpoints for mounting equipment and webbing and other systems. The motor system has been tweaked to specialise in load bearing, without reducing dexterity, strength or speed. As such, its used by specialists to carry equipment vital to their roles, as weapon operators to carry excessive amounts of ammunition or special units carrying vital payloads. Its mobility and its tough, flexible design have made it popular with a number of augmented operators.

Low power consumption, comfort, and obsessive attention paid to ergonomics distinguish the SOLDIER helmet design from other Mjolnir patterns. Body Description: The SOLDIER armor system has proven so adaptable that features have been integrated into the latest ODST combat ensembles.

2821997-web preview
"The Stalker variant is indicative of UNSC advancement in the post war period. Take the best technology the enemy has to offer, and make it even better."
―Anonymous NCC director

The Stalker variant takes in technology examined from intact examples of Brute Stalker Armour, and combines this with existing UNSC stealth technology to create a deadly close ranged armour. The Stalker armour takes the best of Scout and Recon armour technology, and brings in technology that allows for increased sensor jamming without exposing themselves, reduced audio output and reduced heat output. The helmet is designed around a irregular beam visor, based loosely on the visor schema from Brute Stalker armour. These modified visual sensors allow for easier acquisition of target, using full spectrum enhancement to detect and mark targets, regardless of cloaking and blocking obstacles, and is especially effective at short range, turning deadly Spartans into deadly hunters. It's power packs are built into the shoulder joints, allowing them to be close to the user's centre of gravity and less obtrusive, aiding in maintaining it's stealth profile.

This variant is often used by Spartan teams who have to infiltrate an enemy position in close proximity, are deployed on hunter-tracker missions, or quietly eliminate enemy combatants at extremely short range. While much of the high level technology was recovered, analysed and reverse engineered by the Materials Group, they have passed this on to Naphtali Contractor Corporation for manufacturing.

Large volumes of Jiralhanae equipment were left behind after the Prophet of Truth's defeat. The STALKER helmet was the product of efforts to repurpose their brutal implements of war.

2822002-web preview
"Imbrium Machine Complex asks you this, what is it that you need? Advanced systems? Heavy Armour? Advanced Stealth systems? None of that, as in the end, all you really need, is speed."
―IMC marketing release

The Strider variant is a specialist variant built by Imbrium Machine Complex. The Strider starts life as a stripped down MJOLNIR model fresh off the line. IMC then take these and begin refitting them to create the Strider variant. The Strider is refitted with light plates, that have a lesser effect on mobility, triply redundant components, a variety of electronic packages and hardened systems. This allows it to adapt to a number of different roles easily, without speciality upgrades, and can operate for long periods without rest, repair or maintenance. It has been fitted with new sensors that have increased function at extended ranges, giving operators an edge in contact scenarios. The entire armour is designed for 'twitch' activity, wherein all systems reactor at a startling pace to changing requirements, such as suddenly needing active camouflage system, or requiring data to be processed quickly. The inboard computer systems are tuned for fast processing speed rather than high performance, and the shield emitter network is rigged to quickly adjust will little system-lag, creating a fast charging armour. The reactors are similarly designed, with a radial containment system that emphasises quick increases in energy output, though operators find it to jolt up, rather than provide a smooth increase in output.

These modifications makes it ideal for short, 'jaunt-combat excursions', which consists of a variety of missions across a short period of time, without support, in isolated theatres.

The STRIDER helmet contains heavy duty connectors and data ports for external attachments, though GEN2 specifications did not require it. Body description: The STRIDER has become the unofficial base for heavily customized "frankensuits" due to its relative simplicity and extensively documented subassemblies.

However, this comes at reduced spatial awareness, reduced mobility and reduced hardware in the armour, reducing processing power and the speed the armour can process data from the War Net. Though some of these deficiencies are partially rectified by external camera and sensor upgrades, the armour's combat focus reduces its capabilities in all other areas. Other features include heavily sloped armour, high-efficiency heat venting systems to tackle the high increase in excess heat produced by the reactors during combat, and slim pauldrons, so as not to be caught or grabbed during combat. Whereas the CQB can facilitate a number of secondary or tertiary roles, the Vanguard is engineered solely for face-to-face combat. While produced in small amounts, it has been requisitioned for use in the 117th, for close quarters specialists and point men, and for 'Green' operations, where stealth, agility and electronics are not a requirement.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Vector[]

Commander Baines: "So, how's the new armour holding up?"
Spartan Perez: "Well, I've not been cooked by radiation, and none of the rogue constructs have melted a hole in me, so it's doing okay."
―ONI Commander Baines discusses the Vector armour with a groundside combat team

Knocked together in just three months, and prototyped in one, the Vector is a ship-to-ground exploration armour, designed at first to explore debris from Alpha Halo. Originally tested on the shattered Forerunner relics orbiting Callaway III, the Vector was designed with three functions in mind. Firstly, it was to be able to pilot the ships to get them to the relics, then transfer to ground operations. It was to be capable of performing reconnaissance across hazardous environments, surviving the damaged environments. It was to do all of this, while remaining undetected. To get this, the design team used off the shelf components and well known design practices, creating a surprisingly well-rounded armour.

First among its design is the helmet. This helmet utilises a large, rounded visor, possessing excellent all round vision, making it ideal for use as a pilot, for extra-vehicular use, and exploration. The helmet may in fact be one of the most complex components on the helmet as well, using multiple layers, with an outer coating of clear resin that can deflect sensors. Beneath that is a super-hard crystal layer that provides a rigid and strong visor. Lastly is the environmental layer, which consists of a resin applied to the interior layer than is highly resistant to radiation. It includes a robust environmental system in the helmet, a metamaterial antennae wrapped around the helmet for long range communication, and features a distributed sensor system, using multiple nodes to give the operator excellent situational awareness, vital for exploration in alien environments. It also features a dummy plug that works with Covenant systems, allowing operators to share information with captured luminaries, an increasingly important exploration tool. The helmet's own internal system includes an adaptive central system allowing the operator to seamlessly switch from flight, to exploration, to combat mode, with no lag or download delays.

The armour itself is robust and rugged, with a simplistic but efficient environmental layer for fending off vacuum, radiation and temperature extremes. The armour is dependable and easy to repair under most circumstances, ensuring users aren't put at risk during operations. Despite how sturdy the armour is, it's relatively light and unobtrusive, lending to its preference for short term reconnaissance operations, never staying far from a base of operations. For power, the armour uses two radial reactors, using long cylindrical reactors to provide power for the suit. The reactors are designed for peak performance when needed, at the cost of fuel efficiency, but otherwise remains at a more power-efficient draw level, keeping the suit going for long term operations. These compact reactors can also be used to charge secondary systems such as generator or perimeter defences. Directly linked to these reactors are two large thrusters. These high output thrusters are ideal for navigating the shattered surfaces of installations, both in standard and low gravity environments.

Despite being specially built for a single operation, the Vector has gone on to see multiple uses amongst the Spartans, both for exploration, and for combat. In combat roles, its often used for 'raider' style operations, where Spartans maintain their own ships to and from the target, and transition to ground operations at arrival. Its also suitable for hazardous environment operations, deep-space extra-vehicular activity, and airborne attacks.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Venator[]

Venator
"Created by Lethbridge Industrial as a development platform for the most sophisticated, next generation technology, the Venator is the perfect hunter."
―Lethbridge Industrial Marketing material

The Venator is a special variant created by Lethbridge Industrial, as an exotic platform for advanced technologies. Initially developed as a next generation replacement for current MJOLNIR variants, it seems limited distribution at the moment. The Venator has a streamlined design, with reduced armour sections in a number of area, and redistributed plating with aggressively angled, overlapping plates, giving enhanced protection over vital areas without increasing weight or reducing mobility. The armour incorporates high-performance power systems and hardwired CQB protocols. The helmet has a number of advance systems installed, with all new hardware, software and wetware installed. This gives it substantial processing power, though much of this is devoted to advanced visual sensor packages, designed for short ranged acquisition. It uses two clusters of visual sensors, each made of three optical and three thermographic sensors, designed to follower the user's eyes, providing unparalleled visual acuity. With an upgraded terahertz camera, and enhanced motion sensor, with strengthened magnetic sensors, the armour can also detect targets without a direct or clear line of sight. This greatly improves their capability in single and hand to hand combat, as well as close ranged search and destroy operations.

Its twin reactors use an unusual set up. Instead of utilising heat exchange systems commonly seen in most other variants, the reactors are carried in a sheath that cools it and scrubs the radiation. The reactor's outer plating features large grills, intended for unimpeded dispersal. While this reduces protection, it allows it to remain cool during high-energy combat scenarios, typically close quarters combat. Despite it's uses in a variety of other fields, it is most commonly used for close quarters combat.

The Venator only sees limited distribution, with a significant price limiting its more widespread distribution. It is considered the 'apex predator' of LI's MJOLNIR line.

The latest VENATOR firmware incorporates a generalization of predictive targeting algorithms originally created to assist new Spartans in close-quarters combat. Armor description: Lethbridge Industrial has incorporated feedback from Requiem veterans to improve the VENATOR's power management subsystem and reduce it's maintenance requierements.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Warmaster[]

2821990-web preview
"Lethbridge Industrial does not name their MJOLNIR designs in irony, or for marketing. The War Master is named as such, because its simply one of the most advanced warfighting systems ever created. Taking the basic design, and improving its function and form in every every, the War Master is lightyears ahead of the competition, securing victory of the UNSC's best, on every front!"
―LI Marketing Material

The tentatively named War Master is multi-purpose armour pattern, developed internally at Lethbridge Industrial as its idea for a potential replacement for the standard MJOLNIR. Like the Venator, it is packed with exotic technology, and like the Venator, has a significant price tag, even for a MJOLNIR unit. The War Master is designed to keep many of the features of basic MJOLNIR, such as protection, agility, electronic systems and resistance to damage, but with two more goals in mind. Streamline the design where possible, without sacrificing protection or agility, and increase the capabilities of the armour. With this in mind, it has been outfitted with additional sensors, such as a magnetic anomaly detector and more refined versions of existing sensors. It's armour has been slimmed down and concentrated in various areas, while replacing armour plate with lighter alloys and polymers. It's expanded systems also make it an excellent host for team leaders, or system specialists, allowing them to gather and analyse data faster. It is incredibly multi-functional, and excels in almost all roles on the battlefield. There's few combat situations where the War Master is caught out, and it is an excellent all round armour, optimised for a variety of combat situations. However, while it is a jack of all trades, it is a master of nothing, and lacks the specialised focus of other armour patterns.

The WAR MASTER's neural interface was intentionally throttled after early testing showed inexperienced Spartans would dangerously overextend themselves in combat due to the euphoric side-effects. Armor Description: WAR MASTER-class armor is a de-facto standard among the elite Headhunters: Spartan-IV covert operatives tasked with sabotage, counterinsurgency operations, and strategic reconnaissance.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Warrior[]

2821991-web preview
"Intended to replace standard MJOLNIR configurations, the Warrior has instead been adopted as electronic specialist variant, serving admirably thanks to its increased computing power."
―Materials Group

The Warrior is a common armour variant widely distributed after the war. Looking at lessons learned during the war with the Covenant, the armour has been streamlined, and any surplus armour removed or lightened for agility. This lightweight architecture relies the principle of speed is the best defence, with energy shielding used to ward off the majority of harm. To improve the protection, the armour utilises dual-channel gel layers, relying more on the liquid nanocrystal layer. This dual-layer system is used to quickly disperse knietic or thermal energy, without adversely affecting the agility of the user. The redesigned helmet focuses on increased protection, improved sensors and increased system hardware, with enhanced computing power making it ideal for systems specialists carrying Hardened Uplink or other additional sensors, squad leaders with command network modules, electronic warfare specialists or sentries tapped into remote systems. Other features include gorget armour design, lightened spinal armour and 'clip on' pauldrons.

Much of its design has lead to a lightened armour that is ideal for a number of situations. The Warrior was designed by the Materials Group, and manufactured by Chalybs Defence Solution.

The WARRIOR helmet's robust design protects an elegant combination of sensors and computing clusters that are fully interoperable with all Mjolnir derivatives. Body Description: The WARRIOR's dual channel gel layer can disperse kinetic and thermal energy quickly and efficiently, while still preserving mobility.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/Wetwork[]

2821992-web preview
"The Wetwork is highly classified under the same level as the Spartan program, the mysterious VANIR encryption and for good reason. Its a variant designed to assassinate enemies of the government quietly, without leaving a trace. Damn pricey to do it, too"
―Anonymous SPARTAN commander

The Wetwork variant a extremely expensive variant classified under Encryption VANIR, its very existence being a government secret, and for good reason. The Wetwork unit is designed for the singular purpose of assassination in close quarters, by a single operative against multiple opponents, while leaving no trace behind. It has numerous exotic electronic and sensor packages, intended for acquisition and quiet elimination of a target. It has greatly expanded electronic warfare systems, capable of autonomously jamming enemy sensors, and hacking enemy systems, opening it up for the operator and erasing data behind them, leaving no digital footprint or recording. In addition, the armour has expansive upgrades to the reactive systems and liquid metal crystal layer. This allows for the user to react faster, move faster and exert more force. The armour features twin processors, part hardware, part wetware, that plug directly into the neural interface of the user and interface directly with their implants. These processors are in turn linked to highly sensitive variable-phase balance drives, allowing the operator to perform incredible feats of agility and eliminate targets effortlessly, even before they know they are under attack. The helmet features a singular visor, in a stripe up the middle, supported by external cameras, allegedly giving 'tunnel vision' to its target. The helmet is also equipped with twin integrated antennae for collecting and transmitting, usually for electronic warfare purposes. It has reduced armour plating, intended for ease of movement, endurance and high speed, with slim line reactors and refocused plating. The reactors have a sheath of three cooling systems, that rotate so one is cooling the reactor itself, while the other two are allowed reprieve, extending service life without reducing efficiency. This allows the reactors to operate at peak efficiency without an operator worry about burning the armour out.

This variant is extraordinarily rare, only being deployed to a rare number of Spartans who qualify to use it, and have good reason to. It is often used in operations to eliminate enemies who threaten the very fabric of the UNSC. The Wetwork variant was made by the Materials Group, with specialised components, such as hardware and software systems made by request by Lethbridge Industrial.

The linear sensor on WETWORK helmets is a standard VISR-compatible element on most suits. Delta-Six and other specialists use esoteric systems more valuable than the suit and Spartan themselves. Armor Description: Rarely employed by Spartan combat teams due to its rarity and unsavory reputation as an assassin's tool, WETWORK armor remains popular with Delta-Six operatives.

MJOLNIR Mark VII/CO[]

The Command variant is not a single variant, but rather a modification to existing armour patterns by the Materials Group, for the purpose of increasing the armour's processing power, and allowing it to play host to an Artificial Intelligence construct. The armour is modified to be compatible with Commander Neural Implants of it's users, and improved processing systems for dealing for larger amounts of data coming in and out of the armour. Under the armour it features a memory-processor superconducting weave, allowing an A.I. to reside within the armour. This weave uses paper-thin sheets of liquid-state electronics that allow the A.I. to 'stretch its legs', so to speak, and allow it to operate out of the armour. The variant is essentially a modified set of normal armour, allowing COs to use the armour of their preference. The armour is fitted with improved networking modules, to allow the user to link to the forces under their command more easily and integrate units seamlessly. The armour is equipped on COs and XOs down to section command, allowing A.I.s to survive even if superior officers are neutralised or terminated by transferring by uplink or by manual transfer.

The CO variant is not a true variant in itself, its a special modification of hardware and systems applied to a standardised variant, such as a CQB variant, or EVA.}}

  • QV-32 Twin-plated
    • The Twin-plated vambrace is extremely light weight and hardened plate, with a notable appearance caused by the raised up shield emitters. The Twin-plated armour also extends to a lightweight and agile elbow plate, enhancing protection. It is manufactured by Naphtali Contractor Corporation.
  • GV-09 Locking
    • The Locking vambrace is a heavily armoured, but surprisingly comfortable vambrace, with modular features allowing it be tailored to individual operators more easily. Its often used by Spartans expecting heavy resistance. It, and it's propriety locking technology, is developed and manufactured by Acheron Security.
  • CV-51 Inner-Plated
    • The Inner-plated vambrace is a specially designed plating, mixing reliable design with tough materials, to create a low cost, low maintenance armour piece that can withstand punishment. While it may lack the multi-functionality of other vambrace components, it's simple design and hardy construction allow it to survive when other variants may simply breakdown. It is designed by the Materials Group, but is manufactured by Misriah Armouries.
  • OV-13 Outer-plated
    • The Outer-plated vambrace is an extremely hardy, high-endurance armour piece, designed by Lethbridge Industrial. It consists of several layers of high strength metal and ceramic, held together by high-strength metallic studs to keep them bound even under extreme punishment.
  • KV-48 Contoured
    • originally modelled on Sangheili armour designs, the Contoured vambrace has become very popular recently, mixing agility and strength, in a traditional design intended for conflict. Lethbridge Industrial have designed it to be fully integrated with MJOLNIR systems, despite it's alien origins.
  • XV-27 Shifting
    • The Shifting vambrace design is a more exotic example of vambrace design, that can be modified on the fly to adjust shield and power distribution, coverage and reinforcement. It is manufactured by Naphtali Contractor Corporation.

Modular Greaves

  • MG-01 MJOLNIR
    • The MJOLNIR greaves is the most basic and widely spread greave models. The perfect balance of strength, dexterity, modularity and defence, the MJOLNIR is commonly used by operators wearing default MJOLNIR, though it is often exchanged for more advanced models for differing missions. It is manufactured by Misriah Armouries, but was designed and developed by the Materials Group.
  • MG-02 Tiger
    • The Tiger greave is a heavy duty alternative to the more classical design, and can withstand more punishment. Usually used high intensity conflicts, its more expanded design protects most of the knee joint, without limiting manoeuvrability. It is manufactured by the Materials Group.
  • RG-63 Counter
    • Developed based on data collected from a variety of conflicts during the Great War, the Counter greave armour is designed for mid-intensity, asymmetric conflicts, utilising light weight, sleek armour, that improves endurance and mobility. It is manufactured by Imbrium Machine Complex.
  • LG-50 Bulk
    • The heavy Bulk Greaves are extremely resilient, extremely durable armour, with triple redundant systems. They are capable of taking supreme punishment, though at the cost of mobility. This armour is often used for high intensity conflict, where operators are in the field for long periods. It was designed and manufactured by Imbrium Machine Complex.
  • OG-13 Outer-plated
    • The Outer-plated greave armour focuses on redistributed plating, having similar armour to other greaves, but concentrated on the outer thigh and inner calf. This. combined with a new design, enhances agility, without compromising protection. It is manufactured by Chalybs Defence Solutions, but was developed and designed by the Materials Group.
  • XG-89 Narrow
    • The Narrow plated Greaves are a special design, with lightened, steamlined and reduced profile, and reinforced shielding emitters, allowing it to reduce the total armour, without necessarily reducing defence. This allows for high endurance and increased mobility, without sacrificing defence. It is manufactured by the Materials Group.
  • KG-48 Contoured
    • The Contoured greaves are based on Sangheili designs and technology, and match them in terms of armour, endurance and durability. While highly mobile, and resistant to directed munitions, their mobility increasing design lead to higher chances of 'mobility kills', where shots penetrate between armour plates and cripple the user.
  • ZG-33 Over-locking
    • While possessing heavier armour than other leg variants, the Over-Locking greave has substantial coverage, without overtly affecting mobility. Popular for operatives expecting short term assignments in high-intensity conflicts, its recent popularity has not been without reason. It was designed and made by Imbrium Machine Complex.

Additional Armour Systems

Up Armoured/Collar

The Mk VII can mount a series of different collars to suit a variety of combat purposes, without adversely affecting capabilities.

  • Collar/BreacherSupplementary Composite Gorget Armour (Pattern Alpha)
  • The preferred attachment for point men and combat engineers, the full gorget is of similar design, internally, as the half gorget, covering from ear to ear and covering the front aspect, going up to the Adam's apple. The armour plate has minimal impact on manoeuvrability and doesn't limit visibility.
  • Collar/Storm TrooperSupplementary Composite Gorget Armour(Pattern Beta)
  • A curved gorget piece which covers half of the neck, on left or right sides, is often employed by close quarters units to great one, well armoured side, to present as their 'front', The armour uses a number of ceramic tiles encased in a resin aggregate, which itself is sealed in a titanium cover, with a non-newtonian layer on the inside. The armour works as firstly rounded armour, then as slanted tiles inside that, increasing effectiveness. It protects from the chin to the back of the neck, covering the whole neck without limiting visibility of manoeuvrability.
  • Collar/GrenadierSupplementary Composite Gorget Armour(Pattern Gamma)
  • A gorget piece modelled on improvised armour deployed on Mark IV Grenadier prototypes, the Collar/Grenadier is a heavy armour piece that covers the 90 degree hemisphere to the left or right of the SPARTAN's head, partially obscuring their view but greatly boosting their defensive capability, protecting their neck and elements of their head. It's construct consists of a double layer of AEGIS tiles encased in a trio of non-newtonian shock absorbing layers inside a rounded, heavy titanium shell, with thinner layers on the inside to prevent deflection of fragments or stray munitions into the head.

Up Armoured/Buckler

Buckler units are used to enhance forearm protection during close combat environments.

  • Buckler/PointmanSupplementary Composite Wrist Protection (Pattern Alpha)
  • The Buckler armour unit consists of a small sandwiched plate of titanium, AEGIS and graphite. The plate is adjustable and protects the wrist of the user, while also providing some extra defence to other regions. The are particularly favoured by point men for breaching, shoulder first.
  • Buckler/ReconnaissanceSupplementary Composite Wrist Protection (Pattern Beta)
  • The Recon Buckler is a lighter alternative, with a small diameter shield and two titanium plates attached to adjustable hinges, allowing it to move more freely.
  • Buckler/CommandoSupplementary Composite Wrist Protection (Pattern Gamma)
  • The Commando Buckler is a heavy duty armour unit, using a semi-circular shield with additional plating. It consists of a AEGIS resin bound in a circular form, with titanium plating and reinforcement bands. The armour is designed for heavy duty close combat and maximum protection, at the cost of reduced mobility.

Up Armoured/Bracer

Bracer reinforcement is used to substantially increase forearm protection, giving point men much heavier protection for their arms, particularly useful in a close quarters melee, where the increased armour can allow them to parry with their forearms.

  • Buckler/GrenadierSupplementary Composite Forearm Protection (Pattern Alpha)
  • The Grenadier pattern bracer racer reinforcement is used to substantially increase forearm protection, giving point men much heavier protection for their arms, particularly useful in a close quarters melee, where the increased armour can allow them to parry with their forearms. It uses a sandwich of composite armour bound in titanium reinforced nanotube cabling.
  • Buckler/BreacherSupplementary Composite Forearm Protection (Pattern Beta)
    • The Breacher pattern Buckler is a much lighter alternative, with heavy duty titanium armour units, with nanoyube cabling holding it together. It is a lighter alternative to the Alpha pattern bracer and can be used as additional storage hardpoint.

Up Armoured/Pauldron

  • Up Armoured/Multi-ThreatSupplementary Composite Pauldron Armour (Pattern Alpha)
  • In a trade off between additional protection and increased weight, the Multi-threat pauldron succeeds as additional, heavy armour protection, without severely reducing agility or mobility. The armour can be applied in place of existing armour plating. The plating consists of a Titanium shell with AEGIS tile inserts backed onto a graphite composite layer.
  • Up Armoured/GlacisSupplementary Composite Pauldron Armour (Pattern Beta)
  • The Glacis pauldron is designed to bolt on top of existing armour to substantially boost protection, at cost of weight and reduced mobility. The plate is designed to act like the reactive glacis plate of a tank, having a steep incline to give it effectively thicker armour and improved chances of deflecting munitions. The armour consists of a number of slanted sections, intended to always provide a slanted face to opposing enemies. ON the surface layer of the armour is a non-conductive shell with a interior layer of electrically conductive metal and then the insulatory shell. When this is breacher, a high power discharge is created, vapourizing the munition of dispersing the energy munition. Inside the armour is a number of AEGIS tiles, backed onto a non-newtonian shock absorbing plate within a graphite sheath to catch spalling, sandwiched in a thick titanium shell. The armour bolts directly onto previous pauldron units, allowing it to be easily removed to replaced when it is no longer effective.
  • Up Armoured/SecurityHeavy Duty Supplementary Composite Pauldron Armour (Pattern Gammaa)
  • The High Security Pauldron is a heavy duty, well rounded pauldron, designed to provide a high increase in protection without critically reducing endurance and agility. While not as protective as the High-Threat shoulder armour, it's rounded structure, heavy titanium bar enforcement, AEGIS plating and high-strength titanium casing and reinforcement ads give it high armour protection.
  • Up Armoured/Base SecurityLightweight Supplementary Composite Pauldron Armour (Pattern Delta)
  • Unlike many other supplemental armour units, Low Threat armour is actually much lighter than regular armour. Its rounded, light weight titanium structure, with AEGIS tile reinforcement provides an option when soldiers wish to increase their agility and endurance.
  • Up Armoured/OperativeLightweight Supplementary Composite Pauldron Armour (Pattern Epsilon)
  • The Operative is modified from older generation Operator shoulder designs to provide the most light weight shoulder unit, without completely compromising armour. It consists of a titanium plat on the surface, with a sandwhich of electronically conductive metals then a pair of titanium struts holding it on. When the inner layer is breached, it emits a high voltage discharge, melting the ammunition or dispersing the energy munition.

Up Armoured/Utility

  • Up Armoured/ChobhamSupplemental Composite Armour
  • Chobham utility armour is a thick plate of composite armour, with AEGIS tiles bound in a resin ceramic, within a titanium shell, back onto non-newtonian shock absorbing layers, with graphite plating to catch spalling.
  • Up Armoured/NxRASupplemental Reactive(Non-explosive) Armour
  • Reactive utility armour consists of a high output electric reactive armour plating, using a titanium case backed onto a non-conductive layer, within which is a sandwich of conductive metal, which when breacher generates a high power electrical discharge, vaporising enemy munitions, kinetic or energy.

Up Armoured/Torso

  • Up Armoured/RangerSupplemental Composite Fauld Armour
  • Ranger Fauld armour is specialised plating designed to attach to the waist hard points, allowing SPARTANS to mount circular armour plates, using titanium shells with AEGIS resin triplex tiles inside, that are designed to cover the hip and joints to provide increased protection without severely limiting manoeuvrability. They also serve as additional hard points for mounting equipment.
  • Up Armoured/Point ManSupplemental Composite Chest Armour (Pattern Alpha)
  • Point man composite chest armour consists of two titanium shells with overlapping AEGIS tiles inside that fit over the chest plating. The two plates are individual so they can be worn separately to augment protective capabilities. On top of that, it mounts additional hard points for carrying equipment.
  • Up Armoured/Base SecuritySupplemental Composite Chest Armour (Pattern Beta)
  • The Base Security plate is a simple option for increasing defence, using a titanium shell with AEGIS tile inserts that bolts onto the chest plating, to augment the user's defence.
  • Up Armoured/Counter-AssaultSupplemental Composite Torso Armour (Pattern Alpha)
  • The Counter Assault armour is a additional torso armour, desined to protect the vulnerable torso plating of MJOLNIR armour. The plating consists of multiple titanium plates with sandwiched layers of overlapping AEGIS tiles backed onto non-newtonian shock absorbing layers with graphite composites sandwhiched between the layers.
  • Up Armoured/Counter-AttackSupplemental Composite Torso Armour (Pattern Beta)
  • The Counter Attack is a light weight response to the Counter Assault, using a thin titanium shell with overlapping AEGIS tiles with shock absorbing layers, designed to accommodate for lightweight, close combat actions.

Up Armoured/Helmet

  • Up Armoured/GrenadierSupplemental Composite Helmet Armour (Pattern Alpha)
The Grenadier helmet armour is the first generation of helmet defence, designed to increase the defensive capability of the user's helmet armour, as well as provide a hardpoint for mounting additional vision equipment. It consists of a titanium shell with internal AEGIS resin, with graphite layers surrounding it. This armour is kept on a slant, providing a glacis like plate.
  • Up Armoured/CQCSupplemental Composite Helmet Armour (Pattern Beta)
  • The CQC pattern was the follow up the Grenadier pattern, using a titanium shell with AEGIS resin internal layers. Though not as thick as Grenadier pattern units, they still provide increased defensive power.
  • Up Armoured/RaiderSupplemental Composite Helmet Armour (Pattern Gamma)
  • The Gamma pattern plate is a lightweight alternative using a plate of electric reactive armour on the head, providing a one hit defence against munitions capable of penetrating the helmet.

Electronic Systems

Command Network ModuleAN/PYK-308 CNM

The CNM provides additional command and control systems for MJOLNIR that speeds up the flow of information between subordinate units and the linked commander, allowing soldiers to be more readily updated with their specific information for combat proficiency. With the aid of an A.I. this information can be compiled and analysed at increased speed and presented to the user.

Chemical/Biological/Radiological/Nuclear Protection SystemM227 CBRNPS

The CBRN attachment increases protection in hazardous zones. Compared to the normal CBRN systems of the MJOLNIR armour, it has much more resistant triple filter system with week long life span and internal diagnostic systems, and forty additional minutes of internal air supply.

Aquatic Adaptation SystemM280 AAS

The AAS is a system that bolts onto the ordinary air filters of the SPARTANS to provide them with a means of near permanent supply of air underwater. The artificial gills use a refined version of the Bodner method to remove oxygen from water at a exceedingly high rate without producing vast amounts of waste materials or waste energy, ensuring stealth and safrty in missions involving traversing deep water. Internal pressure controls, mixed with pressure controls of MJOLNIR allow users to avoid decompression sickness.

Hardened Uplink Module (Generation 1)AN/PSQ-706 HUL

MILINT acquisition device for uploading sensitive information discovered on the battlefield to encrypted ONI or UNSC servers. This generally serves as both a standard and holographic camera, capable of taking images in the visual, ultra-violet and thermal spectrums and able to take both streaming video feed and ultra-high-resolution photographs of any intelligence discovered in the field. This is mostly used by advanced reconnaissance specialists in high-risk behind enemy lines operations.

Hardened Uplink Module (Generation 2)AN/PSQ-707 HUL

The HUL (2) is a first generation magnetic anomaly detector, devised and issued in limited numbers in the fall of 2552. The HUL (2) allows operators to scan within a forward arc up to 200 metres. It uses four conjoined arrays with narrow but overlapping scanning parameters to provide a distinct and wide band view of electronic systems. Anything with a high EM output, such as plasma and magnetic weapons, FELs, energy shielding, a variety of energy reactors and ignition coils. The system is often used to hunt down infantry or vehicles in narrow confines and tight combat areas, with the information generated by it uploaded to local War Net systems, allowing friendly forces to see its output.

Hardened Uplink Module (Generation 3)AN/PSQ-708 HUL

The HUL (3) observes emissions in the EM spectrum such as radio, RADAR, microwave transmissions, and is useful for determining the location of enemy C&C elements on the battlefield, or for ensuring that primary communications arrays are eliminated before an initial stealth assault commences. They are extremely helpful in determining where to set up communications disruptors as well. These monitors are generally issued to cyber/electronic warfare specialists in the Spartan companies, and in some rare cases, to communication specialists in Spartan command teams.

Hardened External Sensor Array (Generation 1)AN/PSD-889 HESA

The Hardened External Sensor Array is a specialised system used for long range detection of enemy forces. It mounts a exceedingly powerful optical scope with optional passive infra-red and night vision filters, allowing a single operator to view targets at long range under a variety of sensors. This sensor can actively identify targets with its twenty times zoom and track these targets in day time, and through minimum foliage.

Hardened External Sensor Array (Generation 2)AN/PSD-890 HESA

The HESA (Gen 2) focuses on short range organic support of existing vision systems, providing a pair of eye tracking active infra-red cameras. These short range cameras can illuminate cold and hot areas in a active scan, processing them through the onboard CPU and feeding the information in a HUD overlay in the helmet. These allows SPARTAN hunter-killer teams to track stealth units or enemies in foliage or track absconding units. The thermal camera can track targets by their specific heat distribution and make up. It is capable of tracking any sort of heat distortion, filtering known heat patterns of a variety of catalogued species, and contributing to the masking of the user's own heat signature. With the proper adjustments, the HESA (Gen 2) can track a single individual based on their personal heat signature.

Hardened External Sensor Array (Generation 3)AN/PSD-891 HESA

The HESA (Gen 3) focuses on short range anti-infantry and acoustic identification system designed to aid the user in hunting specific targets. The anti-infantry sensor can detect heart beats in the vicinity through passively scanning for the characteristic ultra-low-frequency electric field related to a beating heart to identify and track heart rhythms in the immediate vicinity then report back to the user's HUD on the species, heart rate, status and approximate size and strength details of the target. Though it has a short range, it is undetectable and is very difficult to jam due to on board filters. The passive SONAR sensor passively scans the background noise it receives and interprets this, looking for distinctive noises that match known signals stored in the internal database, such as engine noise, gunfire, enemy speech, with ranging, translation and analysis. It can track movement of infantry, with it being capable of detecting possible species and weight, detect the sound of engine noises and even analysis of damage dealt to the engine by combat or wear and tear.

Hardened Uplink/Remote Sensor PackageAN/PSQ-709 HU/RS

The HU/RS carries a telescopic camera with expanded zoom capabilities over average MJOLNIR with night vision and thermal vision filters allowing singular phase or hybrid detection at long range. This is generally a standard-issue helmet modification issued to rank-and-file Spartans on operations requiring higher-powered imaging filters than the ones already standard in Mark VII helmets or sniper spotters. Built into it is a Hardened Uplink allowing immediate uploads of image and video to the War Net. It is capable of tracking any sort of heat distortion, filtering known heat patterns of a variety of catalogued species, and contributing to the masking of the user's own heat signature. With the proper adjustments, the HU/RS can track a single individual based on their personal heat signature.

Miscellaneous

Blast Shield

As every veteran SPARTAN knows, the most vulnerable part of their armour is their face plate. Many SPARTANs can attest to this with their numerous facial scars. This extension uses a pair of full-colour optical and night-vision cameras to provide clear vision. It hinges down over the visor and is linked wirelessly or through a hardline to the user. Generally, this modifier is issued to units vulnerable to sniper engagements, operating in close assault, or operating in environments with high amounts of explosive ordnance. It increases survivability of potentially lethal faceplate hits by about 88%, making it a popular request. It is made of a composite AEGIS plate, backed onto a non-newtonian shock plate in a titanium shell.

Wrist Docking Port

Optional wrist mounted docking port allowing addition of electronic or combat systems to increase combat efficiency. Systems included are

  • Universal Global Positioning SystemAN/PSN-98 UGPS
  • The SRT Universal Global Positioning System is a ruggedised computer system that attaches to the user's wrist dock and displays a composite image generated from multiple orbital assets, generating a composite image. This can be used through either touch screen direction or neural uplink connection to designate targets or preform simple orbital reconnaissance or navigation. The UGPS can also be linked to other assets, such as weapons, allowing Snipers to preform long range kills through cover. The System can be preloaded with three detailed planetary maps, filled with information on local facilities, street names, directional data and updated on local servers every six days. The system can link with existing civilian or military assets, including GPS, ship board assets or aerial recon, allowing it to display live orbital feeds in a variety of spectrums or up to date maps for tracking and engagement of mobile enemy forces.
  • MC6 Individual Data/Net TerminalAN/PYQ-99 TACPAD
  • The MC6 TACPAD system that allows the monitoring of the flow of battlefield information and battlefield assets gathered by friendly units, including stationary sensors, infantry mounted sensors and UAV assets. The TACPAD can then be used to upload and view mission assets and parameters, allowing constant field updates of mission objectives. From here, the TACPAD can be used to directly interface with War Net assets and control the flow of information down to subordinate units.
  • Ammunition Bandoleer
  • Ammunition bandoleers allow SPARTANS to carry a small amount of additional munition to aid in operations. These have a number of variants for different situations.
