The Precursor were a race preceding and mythologised by the Forerunner, being theoretical "Trans-sentient" beings, having the ability to travel intergalactic and accelerate the evolution of intelligent life. The Precursors are believed to have achieved Tier 0 (Trans-sentience) on the Forerunners' Technological Achievement Scale.
There are very few information about the Precursor, only known to be one of the enigmatic race before the the Forerunner came to power. The Precursor were so highly technologically advanced, even said to have 'inspired' the Forerunner. The Precursor demise were unknown. However, by obtain the Archive, not only the answer to the extinction of the Precursor would be viewed but also the birth of the universe.

All of the Precursor's technology are stored in a device called the Lexicon. However, since the extinction of the civilization and the rise of Forerunner, the Lexicon was unintended and unguarded. Precursor's technology were highly far advanced than any other beings in the universe can imagine, some conclude that they can speed up evolution and even extend the life expectancy. Some of their technology seemed to survive for generations, used by the Forerunners who later in their highest peak would improved the technology. Some constructs hiding away in any planets or asteroids they encounter and try to adapt to the society of the encountered.

The Precursor constructs a wide variety of arsenals, ranging from primitive projectile to pure energy, all eventually reverse engineered by other races, one of which the Forerunner. The weapon catalogue which includes their details and specification were unknown as data archive containing them were lost along with the Precursor.

Based on a recreated archive from fragments of data found in cyberspace, there were thousands of constructs created by the Precursor to assist them by all mean. However, there are only a few constructs left wandering around the emptiness of space. There is a possibility that some of them found another civilization and began assisting them if found applicable to their program. There are at least five of these constructs registered on Earth.

Several constructs seemed to resurface from their isolation from biological contact, some of which had begun their initial directives. Only one made contact.

Precursor architectures were mainly focused on a large scale and geometric style, presumably passed down to the Forerunners who would later use and improve the designs. One such structure, called the Mantle, based on Forerunner glyphs still exist outside the Andromeda I Galaxy, though its purpose were never truly explained. These structures are indestructible to projectile and artificial-energy based weapons as it were created of an unknown material.
