[edit] Biography
[edit] Early life
Born on the UNSC colony world of Atreus in the Nu Centauri System, Randall would be an outstanding student in high school, during high school even earning advanced undergraduate credit in life sciences courses. Ridenour would develop an early and firm interest in research, interning in local research universities during break and becoming an aspiring graduate student and researcher. Even in high school, his work in nearby university laboratories would allow him to write a primitive research thesis in high school, entitled "Functional studies of novel adenosine receptor signaling in reprogramming to induced pluripotency", where he would study the role of the adenosine receptor (A1-A5) in reprogramming to induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells.
His precocious studies in biological research would lead to his prestigious acceptance by the esteemed Harvard University at Cambridge, Massachusetts on Earth.
It was to his profound dismay that his life would be shunted from academia and research to a cruel and bitter existence in the military. His father, continually disgusted by how his younger son was becoming a "soft" academic compared to his brothers, sisters, and cousins, all well-built military enthusiasts, would cruelly deny Randall's acceptance to Harvard, instead, forcing his academic child into the military from high school — instead of becoming a talented student at Harvard, surrounded by peers of equal ability, Randall would be enlisted in the UNSC Navy by his family.
Randall would never forgive his family for his fall from grace on their behalf.
[edit] Navy Corpsman
Randall would always remain cool and distasteful to the military, flirting with insubordination at times as he found himself disgusted, surrounded by "line grunts" far from the peers he imagined he would have enjoyed at Harvard or another first-tier galactic university. Yet, despite his reckless attitude, he would obviously score exceptionally on the Navy's Career Achievement Test (CAT), and earned the highest possible marks, connoting him within the top 99th percentile of the Navy's enlisted sailors.
He would immediately be deferred from Naval Crewman School (capital ships) and Airborne Operations School (fighters), instead being taken to a far more select and exclusive school — the Naval Clinical Medicine Academy, stationed on Asphodel Meadows. The Clinical Medicine Academy was the Navy's first-tier hospital corpsman training facility, for only the most select sailors who would be chosen for high-risk duties in the denied battlefield in order to practice their healing tradescraft. Amongst his cohort, Ridenour would excel exceptionally, and his advanced-placement training in life sciences in high school, combined with his insightful knowledge in biology research, would make him easily the valedictorian of his graduating class.
Ridenour would tour briefly with the 335th Marine Expeditionary Unit in the Outer Rim, and would be specifically noted by his company commander as an exceptional corpsman — during three separate violent ambushes with rebel forces out on the Outer Rim when the Marines would be cut off from hospital operating facilities, Ridenour would save the lives of a handful of wounded Marines by candlelit surgery, demonstrating superior skill as a junior sailor. He would be promoted to the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class (PO3, E-4) after several months of combat, and would be recommended by the battalion commander, a Lieutenant Colonel, to the UNSC Special Operations Command when they were seeking proficient corpsmen to help save the increasing number of UNSC special warfare operators wounded in the field.
[edit] In the Special Forces
Against his will, Ridenour would be reassigned to the UNSC Special Operations Command to a high-risk assignment — Randall, already severely disillusioned with the UNSC Defense Force, would become even more disgusted. He would receive advanced field clinical medicine training on Asphodel Meadows under UNSCSOCOM's tutelage to certify for the rating of UNSC Special Forces Medical Sergeant, and would be reassigned to the UNSC Army Special Operations Command, leaving the UNSC Navy/UNSC Marines instead to join the UNSC Army.
He would be attached to Delta Fourteen, a UNSC Army Special Operations Group infantry team operating out of F.O.B. Hotel California, being employed in counterinsurgency operations against the Unggoy rebels on Dashan as part of the elite Joint Task Force 11. Ridenour would shortly receive a promotion to the rank of Sergeant (SGT, E-5) as part of the Army's ranking scheme.
Although Ridenour would join the Army Special Forces under UNSCSOCOM's initiative to bring more corpsmen into the field with special forces teams in the hopes of preserving its highly-trained special warfare operators and prolonging their time in the field, Ridenour would quickly emerge as a novice at warfare compared to the veterans of Army Special Forces Team Delta-14, and would earn the contempt of many of his fellow team members.
