After the fall of the Original Shield Corporation, UNSC Major Everett sought to save this collapsing corporation and turn it into something useful and good. He organized it into a Defense Corporation designed to send help to those who need it most.
The new Shield Corporation was beginning to make life easier for the UNSC and ONI. Life it seems was beginning to flourish.

[edit] Old Shield Corporation
The original Shield Corporation was a grand weapons/vehicles producer of its time. It had its own Super Soldier Program, its own planetary research facilities, and had discovered a Second Ark. Unfortunately the original founder had rebelled against the UNSC and started what was known as the Shield Wars. The last stand was at the Second Ark. And the Super Soldier Program failed poorly. The Corporation was abandoned in hopes of escaping imprisonment.
[edit] Present Shield Corporation
The new Shield signified the end of corruption of the Corporation, and powered the engine of the future. While no longer producing its own weaponry, the Shield has signed contracts with several other corporations for the purchase of this weaponry. One of these main weapons contributors is the Phade Technology Industry. The Shield Corporation supplied factions with soldiers in return for money. With the money, the Corporation expanded. The reason for so many soldiers coming from the corporation was because the pay was higher than that of the UNSC and ONI put together. You could call the soldiers mercenaries. The Shield also has its own Bio-Engineering division used to study the flood parasite and any other viral or infectious creatures. This division is called the SBEP Branch: The Shield Bio-Engineering Program.

The Shield Defense Initiative was the main purpose behind the resurrection of the Shield. While in war, Major Everett had learned many times over that there were never enough troops to fight. After the battle for the Second Ark, Major Everett discovered the legal files for the corporation, and had taken claim to it. From there on he began building a military defense force by going from planet to planet and offering a large sum of money in return for service. These soldiers these mercs are paid everyday, even if they are not fighting. They remain at their homes until called upon to serve, whom ever needs them most.
[edit] Shield Corp. Shipyards
The Shield Corp. Shipyards was the new shipbuilding company of the Shield Corporation. After the Shield Wars the Corporation dismissed the creation of Shield Ships. But nearing large scale wars, the need for Shield ships were massively taking its toll. And thus The Shield Corp. Shipyards was made.

While the Shield Bio-Engineering Program was meant to be a "loose string", it soon became clear that the information gathered from flood research was too great to pass up. The SBEP was soon granted full clearance to be a fully operation program. Their few samples usually came from infected ships scattered across the galaxy. However a few corporations were able to supply their own samples and research.
During these research terms, outbreaks were not small. Every outbreak that occurred from the SBEP were large scale infestations. Because of this the SBEP started the Bio Guard Program. These Bio Guards were trained for months learning the best ways to combat the flood. Research did not halt because of the large number of outbreaks. It in fact increased. They began using robots to work with the flood samples, reducing the outbreaks by 78%. The remaining 21% were either accidental or by rumors: intentional.
With the assistance of the UNSC AI Eve, who had downloaded forerunner flood files, research on the flood parasite was surging. Layers and layers of information was pouring through the database. The SBEP however did not experiment with changing the parasites molecular structure like others had before. They remained strictly on the study of the original flood parasite.

Flood research was coming in quickly from three sources.
- Direct Contact Study
- Forerunner Files
- Acumen Science Laboratories

The Direct Contact Research was the main source of the outbreaks. Human contact with the parasitic cells unleashed the infection across the SBEP. The use of robotics was introduced to lower the risk of outbreaks, while still maintaining the DCR. This category of research is the main source of flood information gathered.

The UNSC AI Eve supplies the SBEP with bits and pieces of forerunner flood files. While incomplete due to Installation Monitor interference, the small amounts of data are key to the study of the flood.
[edit] Acumen Science Laboratories
The third flood research supplier is the ASL. Their knowledge of the flood is strongly supported by the SBEP. While rumors were going around that the ASL were performing dark tasks for research, the Shield Corporation payed no head to these rumors for the ASL was assisting in the flood research. They did not want to lose a great source of information due to a possible incorrect rumor.

The TWILIGHT project was introduced to ONI officials as a way to study the compound grouping of alien life forms. When the research was supposedly complete, the data was transferred back to the ONI headquarters. However, upon arrival the data had been corrupted. Officials believed the messages signals were crossed with another data stream and that is what caused the corruption.
