Post Human-Covenant War, the secrets of the Portal unveiled

Snowcast is a multiplayer map in the game Halo: Side Factions. It is an outdoors map set in a tiny canyon featuring two symmetrical bases that are separated by a small creek. The map takes place in the underground caverns of the ancient Forerunner Portal Installation on Earth.

[edit] Summary

After the disastrous Human-Covenant War, ONI began excavating the installation, studying the technologies and other contents stored within. They found numerous advanced machinery and constructs, lying dormant in their domes. Successfully burrowing into the installation's hull, the path leads to an underground caverns of no return.

[edit] Layout

[edit] Tunnel Access

Snowcast is known for its similarity to Rat's Nest layout, spanning throughout the entire map, serving as the alternative route for players to invade the other team's territory. Several barriers were placed to give the players a defensive position as well as to impede the opposing team's advancement. There are several routes to the main tunnel, most requiring the player to pass through a narrow passage.

To increase the intensity of the tunnel access, the map can be altered to have minor earthquakes and heavy fogs. This would slow down the player's speed as well as decreasing their vision capability, allowing an alternative gameplay experience.

[edit] Cavern Promenade

At the Red's side of the Cavern Promenade.

The main pathway towards the opposing team's base. The Cavern Promenade is generally a long and wide straight route. The only barriers which keeps the path in balance are the alien floras which are capable of producing spore to slightly decrease the player's vision. These floras along with its spores cannot be altered and are part of the scenery. In addition, the path is covered with snow, allowing players to trace other player's path during a Oddball match or Ninjanaut event.

A special feature to the Cavern Promenade is the ability to spawn teleporters at its wall. This feature is only present in Snowcast.

[edit] Production Dome

A small area, perfect for holding out opponents during an Oddball match or King of the Hill. The Production Dome previews Forerunner's glyphs on its wall, similar to those of Epitaph's. In the middle of the chamber is the hologram of the Portal, detailing the layout as well as the amount of lifeforms moving about.

[edit] Trivia

  • If the players paid close attention in the map's background music, one can hear a monitor humming happily. It is presumed that the Portal's Monitor is overseeing the completion of the Portal's activation.
