A Special Operations Task Force (SOTF) is a core organizational unit of the UNSC Special Operations Command.
After the devastating Human-Covenant War, UNSCSOCOM would realize that rather than employing separate special forces units separately, integrating them together into unified task forces would produce versatile combat-ready units with capabilities from different special forces unit that would compliment each other well. The term "Special Operations Task Force" would come into existence, designating semi-autonomous field commands integrating multiple UNSC special forces units across all branches of service; the UNSC Navy, the UNSC Marine Corps, the UNSC Army, and the UNSC Office of Naval Intelligence.
Special Operations Task Forces would become a core tasking unit for the UNSC special forces, and would be employed with favorable success in the UNSC's post-War activities, such as the Interdiction of a Forerunner Dreadnaught in 2553, and later, in various counterterrorism / counterinsurgency operations out in the Outer Rim, such as the Midgard Campaign of the Beyond Veil's Azure Crisis and the Dashan Campaign of the Galactic Era.
