Why, thank you.

It's always struck me that Halo fans are a whiny lot. We get the people who claim Halo Wars can't be canon because Bungie didn't make it, because the Spartans look different and have shields, and because it has the Flood before Alpha Halo. Then we get the people who insist the weapons are broken, and demand Bungie patch the game, and when they change it in the next complain that they changed it too much. And then we get people who insist that Microsoft are milking their cash cow, even though to mind they've shown nothing but restraint. Six games, a few short films and less than a dozen books in ten years doesn't sound like milking it, when you see how many Sonic and Mario games Sony and Nintendo have churned out over the years, and the comparative quality of said games.

That said, some of these complaints apply to me too. I for one was appalled that Cryptum would demystify the Forerunners - I love the trope of "ancient enigmatic aliens who left only ruins behind", and enjoyed that part of the Forerunners' mystique. It didn't stop me from buying, and loving, Halo: Cryptum, but it's not the same. But have I ever claimed that Halo is being "ruined forever"? On the contrary, I've always looked on the bright side of life, and hoped for the best, and it hasn't turned out too bad despite peoples' expectations of fire and brimstone.

It's actually a prototype for an article I hope will be hosted on Halopedia, ala Wookiepedia and TFWiki. Any criticisms? Additions I could make?

You are so right on that debate, but I has no other things I can add. Overall, it's true. — Nanosoldier

Ah, but you missed the latest one, featuring a bunch of bandwagon-jumping whores from Australia having the nerve to think that they can make Reach content without being part of Bungie... and then demanding that they be paid for their efforts. Their mere presence ruins the map pack--and by extension, the entire Halo franchise--forever.

In all seriousness though, great article. This might make it harder to move to another wiki, but I'd suggest making sub-articles for all the red articles and including a short "ruined forever" fan's definition of them. The red links make sense if you plan to move the article onto Halopedia, but I think the faux pages might make the article even funnier. Just my opinion though.

THIS. THISTHISTHISTHISTHIS! It makes me so angry... Tuckerscreator(stalk) 15:09, February 15, 2011 (UTC)

It's funny though, I was considering making a parody of the infamous "Star Wars fans hate Star Wars" essay, which was meant tongue-in-cheek but was misinterpreted to be serious. I think its whole idea is valid, fandoms as a whole will always be too whiny. And that why we write fiction! Tuckerscreator(stalk) 15:18, February 15, 2011 (UTC)

as per Subtank's comment, I think fans have less to complain about if they just give their protagonist the personality of a brick.

THAT is why we have Noble Six! But the above site commented on that too about how that aspect also Ruined Halo FOREVAA!!

Pretty good. I would ask that there not be any humorous references to rape--the don't drop the soap thing--as it's pretty insensitive. Also, the part about Bungie leaving Microsoft portrays it in a good way, which seems to be against the "everything they do is bad" tone of the piece. Other than that, it's pretty enjoyable. --Dragonclaws(talk) 18:08, February 15, 2011 (UTC)

And don't forget to add the uproar over Karen Traviss writing the Halo books and potentially a new game that returns back to the Master Chief.

The soap ref got shivved, and I've altered a few other things. Ideally, the tone of it should swing wildly between NO WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU'RE RUINING EVERYTHING and WE LOVE YOU FOREVER BUNGIE YOU CAN DO NO WRONG, which is my impression of the fanbase reactions in the past. Really, anything can be said to have ruined Halo forever, but I've tried to keep it to the notable examples, and the ones I know - there may be, and probably is, more out there.

And Actene, mind illuminating me on the Australia comment? Certain Affinity, who made the Defiant Map Pack, are based in Austin, Texas, as far as I know. Or were you talking about something completely different?

Ah, often more like that NYLUND can do no wrong, it's the evil Bungie that it ruining all his canon. Except to mention the fact that he was directly involved in the making of the Encyclopedia and Halo: Reach, not to mention Halsey's journal...

Why exactly are there so many red links anyway? Are they all meant to link to Halopedia or are they all going to become their own separate articles? Then again... red looks angrier!

I originally proposed this via email as a Halopedia article to demonstrate the effect of overreaction, and wrote it as such. If it's not something the Admins are interested in bringing over, it'll just stay on here. But TFWiki has its original, Wookiepedia has its own version, and I think there's been enough of a reaction for Halopedia to warrant its own version.

Lol nice article. In all seriousness though, and all exaggeration aside, I think that the over-whiny fans had some right to be disappointed. When you've got a franchise as large as Halo, it's pretty much impossible to keep everyone satisfied.

That, Sona, is the bitter aftertaste of success.--The All-knowing Sith'ari 06:24, February 16, 2011 (UTC)

Ah, you see to have discovered the new Halopedian template, eh? Unfortunately, it turns out you need to add "_" to any of the links that have more than one word in them (For example, linking "Great Schism" needs to be written "Great_Schism"). It's a pain to fix when you didn't know about it before, I find it a little easier just to use "plainlink" tabs, but that's how the template works.

Anyone who wants to add something is perfectly welcome to, so long as its something that has been complained about, rather than an actual complaint, and is funny.

As the author, I'll be the first to say it...I've gone way overboard with all the stuff on the list. On the one hand, you could say it's proof that Halo fans are a huge bunch of entitled jackasses who will complain about everything. Which is partially true. :P

On the other hand, the length of the article and the detail it goes into undermines the premise of the article, which is that it's not as bad as we think it is. So (hopefully) I'll be going over this at some point, removing a whole bunch of rubbish and rewriting what's left, to leave only the especially notable points, like people's reaction to the Arbiter, the backlash against Reach, Spartan Ops, Palmer and Escalation, etc.
