The Type-34 Artillery Ghost was designed as counter to the human’s Gauss warthog, but proven ineffective at this role. It was then re-designed as an Artillery vehicle, being outfitted with less armor and a larger Plasma Mortar, which was re-designed to be more effective against armor, and for use at longer ranges. It lacks any sort of shielding for the driver, or any sort of secondary weapon, and the plasma mortar is very ineffective at repelling enemies at close range, but it proved excellent at the fire support role. It’s small frame makes it easy to transport, and this added flexibility (and the fact a Phantom can carry two of them at once) made it a favorite of elite commanders. It is occasionally used against enemy tanks, however, the fact it can not boost for thirty seconds after firing, and the fragile armor make it inefficient at this role.
[edit] History
The Type-34 Artillery Ghost was originally designed as the Covenant equivalent of the Gauss Warthog. However, it failed to fill that role, and the Covenant almost abandoned the project. It was realized, however, that the vehicle could be used to provide fire support for front-line troops. It was redesigned for use as an artillery/ anti-tank vehicle. It preformed admirably at this role, providing an inexpensive, efficient vehicle for Artillery support. However, due to production problems, they were not mass-produced until after the destruction of the Covenant Loyalists. They quickly became a favorite of Elite commanders, who used them often in destroying Brute survivors.
