The UNSC Army is a uniformed service of the UNSC Defense Force, responsible for the capture and defense of wide expanses of territory, in addition to planetary defense.

Created after the Interplanetary War, the UNSC Army was an amalgamation of numerous land-based forces all across the world, at first created as a massive force to secure Planets during the frequent uprisings that started as colonists began to try and break free from the Colonial Administration. After the UNSC Marine Corps began to take over the UNSC Army’s duties as an expeditionary force, many Army officers attempted to have the Marine Corps disbanded, but those pleas were lost as the Marine Corps achieved more and more victories against the Insurrection. In turn, the Army began to fall more and more into the niche of a large planetary defense force, as well as holding large spaces of territory as a defensive force. During the Human-Covenant War, the UNSC Army patrolled outer colony worlds for Rebel activity, as well as being the first line of defense against Covenant forces on many worlds, as the UNSC Marine Corps would arrive later as reinforcements. Two known UNSC Army operations were the Battle of Mare Erythraeum, where Colonel James Ackerson, then attached to the UNSC’s Office of Naval Intelligence, led a ragtag group of Army members against the more numerous and powerful Covenant occupying forces, and the Battle of Cambridge, where UNSC Army Rangers covered the extraction of Naval Special Warfare forces. Like many of the UNSCs battles against the Covenant, these were defeats, with the forces being completely shattered and routed.

Following the Human-Covenant War, the UNSC Army again grew in strength and might, becoming the forefront of UNSC clean-up operations, destroying any remaining Covenant Loyalist forces in former UNSC Colony Worlds. Following the official conclusion of those operations, the UNSC Army returned to its original mission, patrolling newly colonized planets for rebellious activities.

[edit] UNSC Army Infantry

The UNSC Army Infantry is the premier land force for the UNSC Army, providing occupying muscle and ground support in operations. It is the largest of the five branches, and can be “light” infantry or “mechanized” infantry, in conjunction with the Armored Corps.

[edit] Armored Corps

The Armored Corps is the mechanized force of the UNSC Army, operating M808 Scorpions and M12 Warthogs for the ground transport of Infantry during combat maneuvers. They act as a spearhead in combat acts, piercing armored lines to open holes for the more numerous Infantry, who then occupy and secure the territory.

The Military Intelligence Corps is a branch of the UNSC Army responsible for providing timely, relevant, and precise intelligence in support of UNSC Army operations. It operates a trade program with the UNSC Office of Naval Intelligence, sending personnel for support, cross training, and in advisory roles. A premier officer in the Military Intelligence Corps was a young James Ackerson, who would go on to create the SPARTAN-III Program.

The Army Air Corps is a branch of the UNSC Army responsible for providing air support in the form of drop ships and gunships to besieged forces, in addition to ferrying soldiers from place to place. The Army Air Corps, in addition with the Army Special Operations Command, operates a unit, the Special Operations Aviation Reconnaissance for high-profile infiltration and extraction.

The Army Special Operations Command (ARSOC) is a branch within the UNSC Army for providing special purpose forces for covert and black operations. Many of their operators are graduates of shared programs with the Naval Special Warfare Command, as well as numerous combat operations against the Covenant. Many of their units are not well known, although ARSOC has become the subject of speculation and insight by private organizations.
