The Comet was finally finished in 2510 six years after it was supposed to be made, there was much argument over whether it should have been made at all. In order to compensate for the much larger amounts of small ships and troops it can carry the hull was greatly reduced meaning that it was much less protected than any other carrier in the fleet. After a few barely successful missions the Comet was stationed at Hades in 2512 to help ensure the rebel assault was never to rise again. Being a carrier meant that the Comet became a priceless gem in the UNSC's defense of Hades in both a support capacity with it's extra ordinance and as a last escape plan with its slipspace engines. Ordered to be decommissioned in 2525 she was allowed to stay on due to the discovery of the Covenant but only in a support capacity and she was never again allowed to accompany an assault fleet, being permanently established as orbital support for Hades.
