[edit] Summary
The UNSC Meteor was the first Nomad-class Battlecruiser pressed into service. It was the simplest Nomad created. The following Yellow and Yosemite Sam were more sophisticated, the Yellow being the last one created and being a MKII.
The Meteor was the first ship ever created to carry a Super MAC.
[edit] History
The UNSC Meteor was started on August 12, 2550. Production was slowed in 2552 after Reach was obliterated, which slowed the metals needed for the plating and weapons.
Finished on October 29, 2552, it was commanded by Rear Admiral Richard Hart and co-commanded by Commander Freddy Davis. It was around just to see the end of the Battle of Corus III, where the UNSC fleet pushed off the Covenant attackers. The Meteor didn't go into actual combat, just launched it's single ships for support. It's first real taste of combat was the next day, at the First Battle of Earth. It downed two Covenant Battlecruisers and a Destroyer. It continued on, escorted by two Frigates and a Destroyer, to hunt down the remaining Battlecruiser, the Silver Successor. One of the Meteor's escorts, the Frigate Burning Light was demolished by Covenant forces. The Meteor and it's surviving escorts retreated to Earth, where Covenant reinforcements arrived.
These reinforcements were able to break the UNSC defenders and get to the surface to bring in reinforcements. The Meteor, assisted by the 67th Naval Bombardment Unit, bombarded all known Covenant positions planetside. Once the bombardment stopped, Marines were able to recapture the bombarded areas.
The Meteor received a message by two UNSC Frigates Justice and Aegis Fate that they were under attack by Covenant forces at an asteroid field near Sigma Octanus IV. The Meteor arrived, and with it's newly equipped Energy Projector, cut two of the Five Covenant Frigates in half. The remaining Covenant ships were mopped up by reinforcements.
Rear Admiral Richard Hart received dire wounds in the battle, and Commander Davis took the seat. He was immediately field-promoted to Captain by the admiral and stated, "Give them hell." He later died in the sickbay. Davis vowed revenge on the Covenant.
He lead the Meteor to Mars to the news of a Covenant attack. If they lost Mars, the UNSC would not have any shipyards, and humanity would be annihilated.
The Meteor and dozens of other ships held off wave after wave of ships until the attack stopped.
Later that year on November 13, the Meteor, having had eight battle stars already, was still commanded by Captain Davis. Fleet Admiral Hood ordered the Meteor to stay behind with him and the Frigate Kick the Bucket at Earth. They held off a small reinforcement fleet and obliviated them. Soon after they received more reinforcements. Word had reached them: the Covenant was destroyed, but a true UNSC hero, SPARTAN-117, was MIA.
Davis was promoted to Rear Admiral. A peace accord between the UNSC and Sangheili was signed soon thereafter. Davis and the Meteor's crew volunteered to lead the search for SPARTAN-117, along with the Elite Shadow of Intent and the Battlecruiser Silver Successor, the same ship they tried to hunt down more than three months ago.
Currently, the Meteor is still searching for the Master Chief, even without finding anything so far.
