The United Nations Space Command (UNSC) is the military and exploratory branch of the Unified Earth Government during the Saulosian Campaign.

History

The UNSC was formed in 2164, in the aftermath of the Interplanetary War. Having its roots in the United Nations, the UNSC now encompasses a sizable portion of the Milky Way Galaxy along with its allies.

In 2525, the UNSC colony of Harvest was attacked by a scout ship representing an group of alien races calling itself the Covenant. This attack began a war that stretched into 2552, when humanity, along with its new allies, ended the war by killing the leader of the Covenant forces, the High Prophet of Truth. The end of the war marked the beginning of a period of rebuilding by all sides that would last until the UNSC was invaded by the Saulosians.

UNSC military

The UNSC Defense Force encompasses all three branches of the UEG's military. While the Marine Corps and Navy often operate together and are highly dependent on each other, the UNSC Army is largely restricted to operations i the Sol System, and particularly on Earth.

Navy

The UNSC Navy is, along with the Marine Corps and various planetary militias, responsible for the protection of the various colonies.

Marine Corps

The UNSC Marine Corps is the ground combat arm of the UNSCDF. In conjunction with the navy, the Marines are deployed to hotspots all around the galaxy, with routine patrol and garrison duties generally being handled by planetary militias.

Army

Like the Marine Corps, the UNSC Army is a ground-combat organization. Unlike the Marine Corps, the Army is limited to operations on the ground and rarely engage in extra-planetary combat. Army units provide protection for United Nations facilities on the colonies, function as garrison units, and perform anti-terrorist operations. A number of Army units fought in the Battle of Earth.
