Thought on an Infobox Field

Greet'ns,

So, thought that I've had for a long while, why do we even bother having Eras in character infoboxes? Granted, we do have "Eras" in the Halo Universe, ie the Insurrection, Human-Covenant War, Post-War, and for some Necros or other far-future post-2600 stuff, but a lot of our characters cross over because they take place within the same couple generations worth of time.

The reason I see it as a strange thing is because of where we inherited it from: Star Wars. The site actually owes a lot of its early models for things on Star Wars Fanon, our default Character Infobox basically being copied from what one of their old ones was, and that's where we got the "Era" field in most infoboxes from.

Thing is, Eras as they exist in Star Wars do…

The B312 Incongruency

Ladies and gentlemen.

In light of yesterday's events, both on the site and on the Irk, I think we need to come to a definite conclusion and make sure we set in stone site policy regarding the case of SPARTAN-B312's death. There is no mention of it in either our Rules or Canon Policy, but considering there are users both for and against surviving Noble Sixes, it needs to be addressed.

My own opinion falls with the against, but for that to mean anything, evidence needs to be given. Implicit evidence comes from Halo: Reach itself, that the ending cutscene clearly suggested Six's death. Halsey's eulogy following the cut-away from B312's last stand also heavily imply it. But be that as it may, the death itself was not explicitly shown, which was a …

SPARTAN Sub-Categories

The SPARTAN Category, as you may have thought once or twice, looks just about as disorganized as an alphabetical list can be. Trying to browse through it, say to check the tag of your newly-created SPARTAN against the slots already filled in our many expanded universes, results in sifting through the mixed supersoldiers of all S-II and S-III companies and classes, along with members of many other programs which deserve that brotherhood. However, because of multiple characters with the same Spartan tags and articles using a first-name system, it's difficult to tell who's who and from where.

Rather than some sort of complicated solution to sort based on what's beyond the dash in their name-and-tag (which not all of them have) or start a doome…

The Expandables

For most users, the creation of a character comes first when they arrive here from the chaos that is the Internet. For a few, it’s a Marine, ODST, or Covenant character. But for most, it’s the SPARTAN.

It’s natural. The Spartans are the heroes of the Halo universe, stronger and faster than any other and with a just cause for fighting. They’re very appealing to first-time writers and the experienced ones that discover Halo. The problem that occurs for some, I think, is a numbers game.

Whenever you create a new Spartan character, it means one less slot in the unit, and in some universes, there aren’t enough to go around, especially in the Twos. If you want a SPARTAN-II character for the possibilities they have both during and post-Human/Covena…
