Welcome, The kennynator, to Halo Fanon: the wiki where you can write fan-made article(s) about the popular Halo series! Just follow these 3 basic rules and you will be guaranteed to be successful on this wiki!

Rule #1: Follow Canon! — What is Canon? By definition, it is the body of works considered genuine or official within a fictional universe. For example, Bungie and 343 Industries have officially stated that there were only twelve Halos. So, face the fact and try not to be stupid enough to create another Halo, otherwise it may be flamed.

Rule #2: Mark Your Property! — Whenever you make an article, it is appropriate that you label your property with: {{Writer|The kennynator}} at the top of the article. If at some point you have not finished that article, just insert {{Under Construction|The kennynator}} to notify other users that it is not complete.

Rule #3: Sign Your Name! — Whenever you place a comment on a talk page, please sign in your name, insert the —~~~~ at the bottom of your comment. When you press the "Save Page" button, Halo Fanon will automatically convert the —~~~~ to your username along with the time and date you posted. If you still have any problem on this method, just insert this alternative signature:
—{{Name|The kennynator}} ~~~~~.

For more information on creating an article, visit the Halo Fanon Guide Manual.

Visit the rule page for the full list of rules and policies on Halo Fanon (link in the slider below). Note that other users will point out when you are breaking rules, so it is strongly recommended that you read them before you begin writing.

Note that on this wiki users are encouraged to criticize one another, so long as it is constructive criticism. It helps each other improve their work.

Hey there Kennynator, I see that you're eager to start with your Halo work, to say the least. Just thought I'd drop by and give you some friendly advice on how to improve:
  • First off, I'd highly recommend adding paragraphs to space out your writing a bit and make it easier to read; a big chunk of text can be off-putting to some. Take a look at some other stories on the site if you want an idea of how to lay speech out and so on.
  • Make sure to add the writer template to every page you create rather than putting the 'Kennyman Productions' copyright thing there. Jut put {{Writer|The Kennynator}} at the very top of each one. You should also add {{Under Construction|The kennynator}} to works under construction.
  • Read up on canon: Seems fairly obvious, but you'd be surprised at how many mistakes people make when they haven't checked things through. Halopedia is the best site for this, as Halo Nation is generally not as reliable a site.
  • Make sure your story layout is pretty clear, as what I've seen so far is a bit jumbled up. Here's an example of one of mine, Halo: Shrike, as an example of how you could possibly set things out.
  • Also, be prepared for criticism. This site has a lot of users and they will comment on your stories. Most of the time it will be helpful advice, so don't fret if someone doesn't like something about your story.
  • On a final note, this community does have an IRC channel that can be accessed here. One someone lets you through the filtering channel, there will more often than not be a few users there who can help you out if need be.

I suppose a bit of explaining is in order.

Hm, you caught me I guess. But my reasons for silence are a bit more than you think.

Firstly, I'm not an administrator, I'm a site patroller. I'm honestly not sure what leads so many users to think I have administrative rights.

Secondly, while you are correct in the fact that I am not particularly fond of your work, I decided against responding, because I saw how much you seemed to enjoy making your stories and didn't really want to spoil it for you, and I was sure that other who shared my sentiments would no doubt share their very similar with you in a much more agreeable fashion than I myself could manage (and I was correct; see Brodie's message above mine).

But enough beating around the bush, I suppose. I'm gonna right out there and say it: at the present time your works do not meet the site's standards.

But, to a certain extent, that's okay. While you are expected to correct the issue at some point, as long as we know you are committed to doing solving the problem you're pretty much free to go about your business. Should you choose to abandon your work, it will be namespaced so that it cannot be accessed by readers as easily as a normal mainspace page, but so long as you keep contributing regularly and show yourself to be committed to improving your work, you'll be largely left alone.

Now, as for the things you can do to improve your stories, I will once again refer you to Brodie's message. However, his suggestions are rather general, so I'll provide you with some additional advice that is more specific to the issues with your work specifically:

  • One of the biggest issues I've seen so far with your work is an overall lack of pacing. The story flows rather erratically and it's not clear as to exactly what's happening at any specific point in time, as the stories (particularly the Cobra Team one) are written in such a way that the events of each chapter all kind of seem mashed together into one big mess of disjointed confusion. There needs to be a clear transition when you switch for detailing one action to detailing another; you can't just switch from, oh, say, blowing off an Elite's head to talking about a dying marine without giving the reader some sort of notice that you are moving from one thing to another. Saying "The Elite's head exploded like a melon. The dying marine made me sad." makes very little sense, as it leaves the reader wondering where this marine came from and why we are now talking about him. "The Elite's head exploded like a melon. As its lifeless body crumpled to the floor, I caught sight of a dying marine. It made me sad." makes much more sense.
  • You don't seem to explain things at all. In your Cobra Team story, for example, there's no explanation or exposition to inform the reader as to what in the hell a Prototype Mk. 2 is. While you could very well be planning to explain later in the story, that still doesn't address the fact that in order for a sentence like "Damn, a ten year old piloted a Prototype Mk. 2, I myself am surprised," the reader needs to have already been told what a Prototype Mk. 2 is, so that they too can be impressed by this supposed feat. Otherwise, the sentence lacks any impact or purpose.

Aside from those things, I'd again encourage you to read other stories around the site, such as Flight of the Phoenix, Halo: Shrike, or my own story Halo: Terra Ignis. Another good story to look at might be Alaric's Last Chance, written on another wiki by a Halo Fanon user.

If you need help, you can feel free to ask me, another site patroller, or a member of the administration.

Hello, I just noticed how you were getting to explaining about that, yes, I will get to improving that, I will be sure to read those stories, I was reading Halo: Phoenix for a while, I am improving on explaining everything, and doing better transitioning, but just as a reminder, I wouldn't really like it if my page was source locked, I wouldn't have any troubles with any trolls, I keep backups of my work on my hard drive, I will always keep contributing to the wiki, I believe I am still contributing to the wiki, but thank you for your time, it improves ALOT, again, thank you, have a nice day.--The kennynator (talk) 15:25, August 7, 2013 (UTC)

Don't worry, we never lock pages so that their creators can't edit them. To be honest, I'm not sure what the point in that would be. DemonsofHope »Anonymous ONI agent« [COMMS] [SERVICE RECORD]

OK, let's break this down a bit. What exactly are you claiming is plagiarised?

G'day there, Kenny,
Its been bought to my attention you have been pointing out other users have been using images from other games and franchises in their work, and stating they are using copywrited work. While, yes, you could make this argument if they were making a profit from it, Halo Fanon operates as a wikia run by the Wikia, Inc. Under the Terms of Use, they include the following clause in the section entitled, "Submitting Content to the Site and Copyright": "You may not submit content to the Service that you did not create or that you do not have permission to submit.". While this would support your argument on the Johnathan Ulan page, I am afraid it will not stand up given the statue of the US Statue of Copyright law regarding Fair Use (US Copyright law being applicible due to the hosting of Wikia, Inc. hosting its servers in Florida) being overriding in the usage of the Ulan page as well as the other. While the image used should be attributed to the author and the source to properly fall into the usage of Fair Use, there is no danger of legal action being taken against Wikia, Inc for the images they are using.
As such, please cease and desist informing users of using copyrighted work that is able to be used under Fair Use. (That said, DeviantArt works you happen to see not attributed to the original artists should be reported to the uploader and/or Administration to deal with, as there have been past cases of artists making a fuss about it as a violation of the Fair Use policy strictly stipulated by dA).
In addition to this, could you clarify your reasoning behind allegations of plagiarism on the Jonathan Ulan page, please?
I hope this helps,
EDIT: I realized after the fact that Halo Fanon has a page that protects the images that the user in question put up. Thanks.

Kinda got ahead of myself there, sorry, I forgot to mention, it probably should have had a section of a disclaimer, and a part saying "All of the copyrightrighted materiel in this page is not owned by me, or any related people, it belongs to the rightful owners of the copyrighted work." sorry how I said that, I was very tired, have a nice day, thank you, goodbye.--The kennynator (talk) 18:31, August 9, 2013 (UTC)

Also, yes I will stop saying that, I was just very tired, and I still know that isn't really a good reason, but I will stop, again, thank you, goodbye.--The kennynator (talk) 18:36, August 9, 2013 (UTC)

I am leaving

I am leaving the wiki, because of the unnecessary restrictions it imposes on it's users, having already hampered my work, this wiki gets 0 out of 10 stars, I will be leaving on August 17th, because I can not stand the way this wiki works, it is a type of dictatorship, I am done with you all.--The kennynator (talk) 21:26, August 15, 2013 (UTC)

Shall I namespace your stuff immediately then?

A dictatorship would suggest that we have one totalitarian ruler who creates pointless laws for only his own benefit. Instead with have community elected administrators to protect the wiki, and the interests of the users. Rules are there for the benefit of excellence when it comes to fanon writing and to serve as quality control. Users reach consensus through voting of what is and is not of good enough quality to remain on the 'main space'. So we're in fact closer to a democratic meritocracy. Just a FYI.

We don't really do requests, Kenny. They've been namespaced.
With regards,

Guess that's another one for fanfiction halo.

Departure and deletion requests

If you are determined to depart Halo Fanon and do wish for your namespaced articles to be deleted, place {{Delete|Author Request}} on each of them, and they will be deleted relatively soon. As you have had difficulty with our admittedly stringent rules, there are a number of other Halo fan wikis out there - Fan Fiction Halo, specifically - that are less restrictive about canon in articles. I wish you the best. Auguststorm1945 (Talk) 18:33, August 17, 2013 (UTC)

Re: Fan Fiction Halo Wiki statement

G'day there,

The Fan Fiction Halo Wikia, upon fact checking with them, never authorized you to make a statement of any sort, especially not to the tune like that of above. Please cease and desist making such messages in the future, misidentifying the intentions and opinions of another wikia.

With regards,
