VSV-G ("Vesicular Stomatitis Virus Glycoprotein") is a viral gene expressed by the vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV), a virus of the Rhabdoviridae family that is capable of infecting a broad range of mammalian and insect cells. The gene encodes for an envelope glycoprotein that allows the virus to reach high titers and broadly enhanced cell tropism to infect numbers of cell types in vitro.[1]

This gene has been extensively characterized and mutagenized by Acumen Science Laboratories and the UNSC Department of Biological Warfare, UNSC Office of Naval Intelligence. The glycoprotein product of VSV-G, when incorporated into lentiviral vectors, allows for viral infection of many human cell types of interest and for enhanced in vitro titers, and has been extensively shown to be capable of enhancing the tropism of other viral vectors.[1] This has obvious application in certain biological warfare programs that involve viral vectors.
