"It's just as important to use your own strengths as it is to use your opponent's weaknesses."
―Wings-D339 to Vena in a training session
Vena is the one who, at a very young age, told Autel that the Spartan known as Wings-D339 would be a worthy soldier to aid, although she was not able to tell him why. She was thus the catalyst that led to Autel and Wings becoming friends.
Vena met Wings in 2569, and was the one to tell him of what he would become. Wings befriended her quickly, and offered her something that had never been offered to a female Sangheili before.
"It's not your muscles or cleverness that will win a fight in the end, nor your endurance. It's your indomitable will, that drive you need to keep fighting even when all your teeth are broken and your legs burn with weariness. Now get up and fight, dammit!"
―Wings trains Vena in hand-to-hand combat
As the years went on, Vena found herself trained not as a traditional female, but as a warrior. Enlisting the help of one of her uncles, Wings began training Vena to become a soldier with her father's blessing. While she remained grounded in and born of Sanghelios and its culture, she was taught many tactics that humans had deployed and developed. This made her a deadly tactician and hand-to-hand combatant, able to take advantage of physiological weaknesses in her enemies that most Sangheili did now know about.
Having heard from many Sangheili warriors that the humans coddled their soldiers in training, Vena was unprepared for the sheer brutality of being trained by a human. While the Sangheili were merciless in their disregard for the safety of trainees, more often than not turning trainees on each other in order to teach them to be ruthless, Wings turned Vena on herself.
