- "The most useless ship design I have ever seen."
- ―Captain Montgomery Williams
The Victoria-class Heavy Cruiser is a mostly defunct ship design that rose and fell from popularity in the space of five years. Originally, it was intended as a line breaker vessel, usually in a squadron and shielded by escort. It would hammer into enemy lines and unleash the massive armament of it's broadside MAC guns, though smaller than conventional MAC guns, they had a higher rate of fire and were more numerous, so in a shorter period of time they could cause significant harm. Though heavily armoured and with stronger than average shields for a ship of that class, it was capable of taking a tremendous amount on punishment while returning even more.
The ship quickly fell out of favour when HIGHCOM realised the cost of maintaining these vessels, with most usually being repaired after every battle. Fleet tactics changed and the ship quickly fell out of favour, with production ceasing and the few remaining being mothballed. They were mostly reverted to planetary defence ships however, in times of desperation, these vessels can still be seen rushing into the heart of enemy formations.
With the advent of the Necros war, the Victoria was quickly rearmed and sent back to the fronts, where its powerful broadsides could cause significant damage to the vulnerable flanks of Necros ships, designed mostly for frontal attack. They were often used as line breakers, flying in under the cover of nuclear and MAC bombardment by other warships and breaking battlelines. The Victoria was notable for having exceptionally powerful shielding and heavy armour for its size, being closer to a battleship in terms of armour plating. Its oversized twin reactors meant it was never short on power, allowing it to fire both broadsides freely. It was relatively slow , given its heavy armament and armour, but was surprisingly manoeuvrable, being capable of presenting its broadside where and when necessary and out manoeuvring smaller ships.
Anubis-class Heavy Cruiser
The Anubis-class Heavy Crusier was a subclass of the Victoria-class. The class was aesthetically the same as the Victoria-class, but had an W/AS M21A 'Tsunami' DIC replacing its MAC gun. This subclass was employed extensively during the mid stages of the Necros War.
"Its a stupid ship design, cos it gets the crap blown out of it every fucking battle!"
"HIGHCOM doesn't like these things at all but despite the massive cost to maintain them they failed to take into account the damage they deal. At the battle of Argento, the UNSC Victoria and the UNSC Avenger accounted for destroying four Covenant capital ships and crippling nine more, despite the Avenger herself being crippled and the Victoria suffering heavy damage."
"During the retreat from Sigma Indra two of these mothballed suckers were escorting the pretty slow civvie ships evacuating the civilians. I watched both of them in conjunction turn broadsides to the rear of the convoy and just bombard the oncoming ships. My whole view of them changed after that. For twenty minutes they fended off a whole entire flotilla of light capital ships, buying us enough time to get out. They left a trail of crippled ships before finally leaving themselves, smouldering and limping away."
